درخواست استادان علوم پایه از سازمان بهداشت جهانی برای انجام اقدام موثر علیه تحریمهای آسیبزننده به سیستم بهداشتی ایران در مبارزه با کرونا
Professor Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO)
Dear Prof. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,
We are very thankful for your recent kind humanitarian aids to both the Iranian government and people affected by COVID-19. According to the official statistics, our country currently stands at third rank for numbers affected with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, due to the U.S. sanctions affecting the procurement of medical equipment such as diagnostic kits (medical laboratory kits), life support, therapeutics, monitors etc. necessary equipment and material to combat COVID-19 is quite impossible to be obtained from legal markets for both the private sector and the Iranian government. In addition to this dramatic and tragic scenario, the U.S. government’s cowardly claims that economic sanctions on Iran do not include drugs, food and medical supplies, while almost all financial transactions for Iranian government and even Iranian individuals through the international banking systems have been blocked. Unfortunately, these sanctions have, in effect, destroyed the Iranian health system and providing service to people is coming to a standstill.
Moreover, we, as people who are directly involved, are witnessing the afflicted, complications, and death brought upon our people due to inefficiencies of the health system caused by the U.S sanctions in conjunction with the COVID-19 related problems.
As mentioned, in such a situation, provision of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and supportive medical care to patients is becoming impossible for healthcare providers. It is obvious that this important issue can lead to faster spread of this disease and increase the rate of mortality and many other unwanted side effects and irreversible complications. Unfortunately, in addition to innocent people (including pregnant women and their babies) and local governmental managers, due to U.S sanctions a huge number of medical doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers have oppressively died.
Therefore, we, as the Iranian medical university professors and faculty members have decided to sign this letter (in the form of a petition), to ask you kindly take action to improve the current tragic situation in Iran. We would greatly appreciate any effort which can provide us a lifeline at this crucial catastrophic period as soon as possible since time is of essence and a vital factor in terms of quick spread of the virus and its direct effect on mortality.
We wish, by coming together and providing support to each other from all around the world, we can overcome this horrifying situation.
Best Regards;
The Iranian Medical University Professors and Faculty members
