Toinen Earth Hour vuoteen / 2 x Earth Hour a year

Aloitan kampanjan, jossa yritän saada vuoteen toisen Earth Hourin. Ajankohta tälle tapahtumalle olisi syyskuun viimeinen lauantai kello 20.30-21.30 paikallista aikaa, jolloin olisi kulunut puolivuotta nykyisestä Earth Hourista, jota vietetään maaliskuun viimeisenä lauantaina samana kellonaikana. Ajatuksena olisi, että tämä kyseinen tunti toteutettaisiin laajasti Suomessa ja muualla maailmassa lähivuosina. Perusteluna tähän tapahtumaan on se, että syksyllä pohjoisella pallonpuoliskolla illat pimentyvät ja lämpötilat laskevat, jolloin energiansäästöasiat ovat enemmän mielen päällä ja ylipäätään ihmisille läheisempinä. Samalla ihmisiä muistutettaisiin useammin ilmastoa koskevista asioista. Tosin Earth Hourin tarkoitus ei ole ainoastaan energian säästö kyseisen tunnin aikana, vaan sen tavoite on vaikuttaa ihmisten enrgiankulutustottumuksiin pitkällä tähtäimellä. Suomen ja muiden maiden virastojen sekä muiden julkisten toimijoiden tulee näyttää esimerkkiä, minkä vuoksi vaadimme että nämä tahot sammuttavat valot kyseisenä ajankohtana. Jos tämä adressi saa paljon allekirjoituksia, se luovutetaan Suomen ympäristöministerille Krista Mikkoselle.

I am starting the campaign, where I'm trying to get another Earth Hour to the calendar year. The time for this event would be the last Saturday of September from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm local time, six months after the first Earth Hour, which is celebrated the last Saturday of March at the same time. The objective is that this event would be widely participated in Finland and other countries in next few years. The reasoning for this event is that in autumn in the northern hemisphere evenings darken and temperatures are falling, so energy consumption is increasing. Therefore energy saving issues are more on top of mind and in general feel closer. At the same time people would be more often reminded of environmental issues. Indeed the purpose of the Earth Hour is not only energy savings during that hour, but its goal is to influence people's energy consumption habits in the long run. The public institutions in Finland and other countries need to set an example. Therefore we urge these institutions to switch off the lights on that day. If this petition receives enough signatures, it will be delivered to the Finnish Minister of the Environment Krista Mikkonen.
