Good day!

We, the petitioners residing in Calamba City, are writing to your office to request that the fare for tricycle public transportation in our city be reduced.

For your reference, from P20 fare in January 2020, an increase of 100-150% has been forced to tricycle commuters since mid-2020 until now making it at least P40 per 3-km ride. This kind of fare is almost 22% of a basic daily wage in Calamba City which is P373 as per the National Wages and Productivity Commission. 

From a POV living on the east side of the city, jeepneys are alternative mode of transportation; nevertheless, jeepneys have yet to be seen in the city proper (Calamba Bayan). Jeepneys would be a great option for commuters traveling from Calamba Bayan going to Los Baños, Canlubang, Cabuyao, and Sta. Rosa and vice versa. Please, let us have this mode of transportation again.

Our fellow Calambeños have been clamoring for a fare decrease at the very least, given the recent rate of inflation, which has resulted in high commodities costs. Please update the minimum fare matrix for the tricycle to P15 at most. 

We recognize the present fuel price situation as we make this request, and we sympathize with our drivers out there. But we ask for your compassion for our commuters, as well. Thank you very much!
