We really do need the MSA, I joined Northampton from another University and I do not think I would have stayed if it wasn't for the MSA, they really helped me integrate into life at Northampton :)

We need MSA at the University as most mature students are struggling to integrate with other students and groups and are missing out on many activities taking place at the University.

As a massive advocate for mature students (and being one myself) I feel that the decision taken at student council to reject the proposed bye-law amendment is unjust.

Research conducted by UNSU strongly indicated that mature students needs are not adequately provided for on campus.  The bespoke arrangement of the MSA not only allowed for critical representation and voice for the students but also brought about it a unified co-operative structure that allowed the association to be predominantly student led but with sabbatical support.  Due to the commitments that mature students face, a societal structure is not sufficient enough and not workable.

Academic year 2016/17 could have been a great opportunity to carry forward much of what was piloted in the previous academic year.

I feel that not enough effort has come forth from the SU in adapting the MSA, based on previous feedback, to make it successful. Nor has there been any consultation with the students to attempt to find adequate alternatives.

I petition for reconsideration of the bye-law rejection.

#4 The MSA

a high percentage of mature students this year mean we do need a voice. As a full time student, mother, carer and volunteer for girlguiding i found it invaluable to be a member of the MSA last year so i could socialise with others in similar situations to me... i did not feel alone. i was looking forward to supporting, and being supported by my fellow mature students and i now feel this has been taken away from me.

i was under the impression from last year that we were going to carry on with our four seats on council, and i feel extremely disapointed, let down by a system where i do not have sporty interests and the like.... so who can i socialise with now? i dont want to go and get drunk with much younger people, or join a sports club i have nothing in common with.

I feel very let down and a little isolated.
