This is of considerable interest to me. My great - great grandfather came to the U. S. in 1850 due to the situation in Ireland. He knew he had no future there.

I have always believed this was genocide. The failure of one crop is not a famine. There was loads of food just not for the poor Irish tenants

Because it is common knowledge that grain was being produced it Ireland at that time and tenants had to sell it to pay their landlords rent while they were left to starve there was no excuse for what was let happen to the Irish of that time
