Having read the British parking association best practises guidelines. UKCPS is not meeting some fundamental guidelines.

The use of ANPR must be clearly signed at the entrance and inside the car park. This is not currently the case. There must be a non-premium rate number to allow people to contact them without them making the company more money, on call charges. This is not currently the case. The charges must not be punitive and although the guidance says, charges would not be expected to be more than £100, it does not say this is appropriate, it is a maximum.

As the car park is free, the loss of profit from someone staying longer than the two hours, is factually £0. As no charges are made to park for the first two hours, no earning are lost from someone staying longer. These are just a number of the many and various issues with this heavy handed practice. Charges are meant to be for the re-claiming of losses, not a revenue stream.

The issues here, are not with Sainsburys. The land owners signed the contracts with UKPCS and have given UKCPS the authority to put these practices in place. The issue needs to be taken up with the management company.

Until then, I personally would recommend nobody drives their car or walks on the private land, that is Eddisbury Square! we have already seen a number of parking invoice notices being sent out, this will be the tip of the iceberg, as most people will simply pay. People from out of town who will be receiving these notices and deciding to never return, we will never know just how many till the damage is done!!
