Petition against BP demolition of Church on Kingsway Avenue

Whereas, the British Petroleum Corporation intendeds to destroy a church complex, its altar and its classrooms on Kingsway Avenue in order to build a petrol station for commercial gain; Whereas this edifice was built over 50 years ago for purpose of worship and centre for the Auckland park/Melville community, and has a religious, social, cultural and historic significance; Whereas churches, synagogues and mosques are service stations for society, providing moral instruction, inspiration and assistance to souls; and whereas the people of this community are underserved and in need of spiritual and social services; Therefore, we declare the decision of BP to demolish the church and its building to be morally wrong and against the best interest of the community and against the highest and best use of the property.

We , the undersigned, hereby formally protest and object to the destruction of the church building and complex located on Kingsway Avenue, ERF 785, Auckland Park; We call on BP and the municipal authorities to halt demolition action in support of My Father's House Christian Fellowship CHURCH plans to restore the complex as a place of worship with beneficial community programmes.
