Reevaluate Alternate NISD Elementary Zoning Plans

The currently proposed rezoning would move a large number of students from Leon Springs Elementary to the new Ellison Elementary, and replace them with students from as far away as 1604 and Vance Jackson.  Although using IH10 as a dividing line is consistent with middle and high school zoning, it doesn't make sense for elementary schools given their geographic locations.

An alternate exists that leaves much of the current Leon Springs attendance zone unchanged, and with minor variations would provide overflow capacity for Aue Elementary per NISD rezoning goals.  This alternative was presented on pages 57-58 of the rezoning presentation on 11/19/13 (the presentation is available here) and would keep the neighborhoods within the Leon Springs Elementary attendance zone.  Moreover, students from the 1604/Vance Jackson area could attend Ellison, easing capacity concerns at Blattman Elementary.
