Petition Calling for the Removal of Executive Mayor, Cllr Mzwandile Masina
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has submitted a motion of no confidence in the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mzwandile Masina, following the mass collapse of almost every level of service delivery.
However, the ANC-elected Speaker of Council, Ald Patricia Kumalo denied the motion from serving in Council. Effectively putting her ANC Mayor ahead of struggling and fed-up businesses and residents in Ekurhuleni.
The DA has been raising the plight of service delivery issues affecting the communities throughout the metro. From crisis to crisis, the ANC-led coalition continues to act irresponsibly and recklessly.
Critical services are barely functioning, waste is piling up on the streets and our people are demanding change. Power outages are reoccurring across the City due to the failing infrastructure and illegal connections.
Numerous Ekurhuleni landfill sites had to be closed over contractual issues, causing service delivery delays, resulting in increased levels of illegal dumping and poor refuse removal services.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) are investigating allegations of corruption related to a R27-million Ekurhuleni waste collection vehicle tender. These Tuk Tuk vehicles were supposed to help uplift communities, instead they are a representation of corruption and maladministration. Potholes are not repair timeously, as our road networks continue to crumble and our non-working streetlights aren’t being repaired, endangering communities.
Ekurhuleni is in crisis and we need to act now before the industrial power hub of Africa is no more. Bad planning and poor governance have resulted in a non-functioning municipality. It is time for change. Please sign our petition which calls for the removal of Cllr Mzwandile Masina as Executive Mayor.
