Petition to the Minister of Transport and PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa)

We, the residents of the LamDel Residents Association and the Germiston CPF;  Sector 3 Delville CPF and Sector 4 Lambtonklip CPF, as the official registered associations for the area, hereby petition the Minister of Transport and PRASA to present a solution to the rampant crime problem in the various neighbourhoods of Ward 39.

The crime spree has been made significantly worse due to the lack of maintenance and neglect by PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa). The fences between the suburbs and the railway tracks are broken and missing. These access points are now being used by vagrants and crime syndicates to attack residents in the streets and in their homes.

The areas where the fences are broken are been used by robbers and vagrants  as easy escape routes to either jump on trains or jump into vehicles waiting on the freeway. The open areas are also been used as illegal dumping points.

This has become a matter of urgency due to the safety of the residents in the area. The vulnerability of elderly, women and workers has been highlighted in attacks and robberies, this all due to the escape routes via the PRASA properties, therefor urgent attention is required. Various homes have been invaded in Mimosa Park, Elsburg, Dinwiddie, Wadeville, Delville, Lambton and Parkhill Gardens due to this issues.

We hereby request the Minister of Transport and PRASA to prioritise the repair of the fences, between the railway line and suburbs. to increase security on the railway line, do urgent grass cutting and litter picking.

We will no longer allow the residents of this area to be victims of crime due to State Institutions failing in their responsibilities.

On behalf of the LamDel Residents Association and the Germiston CPF; Sector 3 Delville CPF and Sector 4 Lambtonklip CPF.

Chairperson Germiston CPF and Chairperson LamDel Residents Association
