Greens need to be maintained and with proper [process there is no risk for green keepers. Also it will safe money later on for the golf clubs because if the greens are lost, it will cost a lot of money and lost opportunity.

It makes sense to allow a green keeper to maintain a course particularly the greens when he would be staying in his bubble. The government has allowed the racing industry to do this and also Councils to upkeep their own recreational areas. I.e. rugby fields etc are being mown.

There is limited risk to the green keepers. Cost will cripple clubs when trying to get these back to standard. Golf clubs provide a social service that benefits the community, a place for some older golfers to keep social contact, general fitness etc. This will be essential going forward as we try to find some normality post lock down

The costs to address the non action around the greens will be considerable and in some cases will cause clubs to re view their future involvement with the sport
Certain diseases may go unchecked which will cost thousands to remedy.

Golf clubs are strugglinng. If they can't maintain even a basic level of course maintenance it will be financially beyond them to do it when the lockdown is lifted. Golf courses are an essential pass time helping people's mental health and overall Wellbeing by way of physical and social time. If courses are left any longer without basic care then course will have to remain closed even passed lockdown as will take greens staff so much longer to have the course returned to a playable condition it's not just mowing your average lawn there is an art to it and we are at risk of not recovering if this ban isn't lifted asap. For the record I no longer play golf due to MS but I still have many friends that do and am still a social member at Avondale Golf in ChCh
