SAVE HILLCREST SWIMMING POOL

#1801

I'm signing this petition because I know the value of this pool in the Hillcrest community, as well as the greater Pretoria community. I had my swimming lessons at this pool and it is so disheartening and disappointing to see that mismanagement and lack of maintenance has led to this landmark being closed off.
I support this petition and all it aims to achieve in restoring the pool.

Nolwazi Mlambo (Pretoria, 2023-05-25)

#1806

I have coached many swimmers who train(Ed) here over the past 40 years.
I serve on the Executive of the World Swimming Coaches Association. We promote swimming access to the public and facilities cost more to build than to maintain.

#1807

I want to use the pool

Esbe Moolman (Waterproof, Pretoria, 2023-05-25)

It should not be closed down in winter - too many parties rely on Hillcrest

Paul Hartigan (Hatfield, 2023-05-25)

#1809

We have lost many public pools in SA. Our professional SA athletes need these 50m pool in order to train and compete to get race practice to compete both Nationally and internationally.

I want Hillcrest pool to remain open and accessible for all

Let's try slow down the complete destruction of our country by useless incompetent politicians. This extends far further than a pool that has been mismanaged and on the brink of ruin. This is happening everywhere...

Hillcrest pool is a massive part if this countries swimming achievements. We cannot let another great facility like this go. We have watched Ellis park go and we need this 50m pool for many many reasons.

It is an iconic and only Olympic sized pool in Pretoria. Many great swimmers have practiced at the Hillcrest swimming pool.

Marion Pretorius (Pretoria, 2023-05-25)

#1829

fascilities to learn to swim should be a natural right.

Andrew Wood (Parkmore, 2023-05-25)

#1830

This will have a negative impact on all residents who cannot afford the fees of gyms and private pools and might want to:
* learn to swim;
* train for various galas, open water events and/or triathlons;
* keep fit; and
* obtain qualifications for jobs in the navy, police or airlines.

Taryn-Leigh Doubell (Johannesburg, 2023-05-25)

#1832

Swimming needs to be kept alive and with so few 50 m pools ! Hiilcrest is important
So many new swimmers of all colours are comming through

Shanna Fox (Honeydew, 2023-05-25)

I grew up in Pretoria. Hillcrest pool was part of my history. It should never be closed. I have a child who swims for CGA

#1835

I swim everyday and I need the exercise

Derek Fyfe (Centurion, 2023-05-25)

#1836

It is one of only 2 50 meter competition pools left in the greater Pretoria Johannesburg area. I believe the funding is not the problem, but incompetence and a lack of vision.

Daniele Torricelli (Johannesburg, 2023-05-25)

#1837

This is crazy how can a city not have enough money to look after a pool. Our swimmers need pool to train it’s bad enough with load shedding to try and keep the pools warm and they also always want medals from our swimmers

Glen Thompson (Sandton, 2023-05-25)

#1839

Pretoria needs a facility where competitive and non-competitive recreational swimmers who cannot afford access to private facilities can practice

Gert Fourie (Pretoria, 2023-05-25)

#1842

Was always one of the best gala venues in Gauteng. All my kids competed in that pool.

#1843

Iconic pool in SA

Sylvia van Tromp (Vanderbijlpark, 2023-05-25)

#1846

No swimming talent or potential talent should go to waste because facilities cannot be maintained. Many swimmers go on to receive bursaries locally and abroad with their talents and you are directly impacting their future by blatantly disregarding the importance of swimming which seems to based on very short sighted and personal opinions.
My son broke a SA record in this pool! It’sa disgrace.

Leela Jayde (Gauteng, 2023-05-25)

#1848

Our Children's Sporting future is important and this venue is one of the very few available for competing gala's and th8s would be a drastic loss to the swimming fraternity.

Fay Chengapar (Lenasia, 2023-05-25)

#1850

Totally unacceptable to allow an infrastructure to be neglected to which children and adults of all demografics should and will benefit from. Not all can affort sports club fees to exercise.

Johan Wolmarans (Rustenburg, 2023-05-25)

#1851

We need these kind of swimming pools to promote swimming as a sport.

Karien Seymore (Potchefstroom, 2023-05-25)

#1852

Hillcrest is used for many NTS and CGA galas, to host SA Schools!

Nicola Scorgie (Gauteng, 2023-05-25)

#1855

Swimming is the most successful sport in SA for the past 10 Olympics. The sport deserves appropriate funding and is a priority for learn to swim. The venue has been the main facility for swimming in Northern Gauteng for over 50 years and this should be respected. If the City cannot afford the facility then they should seek private investors take over the facility.

Michael Rolfe (Pretoria, 2023-05-25)

#1856

Pools are important to the community for everyone please save the public pools

Teacy Pinder (Gauteng, 2023-05-25)

Why is this pool not being maintained?

Janice Kruger (JHB, 2023-05-25)

#1858

My son swims competitively and one of the pools that are used for competition is Hillcrest. This is one of the only 50M pools available to swim in and without it, our swimmers will not be able to train and compete at an international level.

Charlene Kleynhans (Randburg, 2023-05-25)

#1862

It is an important part of the community and interaction with other communities through swimming events. It brings numerous families to Pretoria that do their shopping in the neighbourhood, spent the night or even introduce the children to Tuks as a study option.

KURT Alpers (Johannesburg, 2023-05-25)

#1863

I remember as a student spending many hours at this pool. Later in life family members ran die shop at the pool earning their living at the pool. This business is still based at the pool with the new generation eager to make it a success story for the local community. Community matters.

Sonja Nieuwoudt (Iow, 2023-05-25)

#1865

It’s an iconic landmark, and played a significant role in my love for swimming. Our world renowned swimmers trained there and has been the pool where Pretoria schools had their inter school gala’s for years.

Adele de Klerk (Pretoria, 2023-05-25)

#1868

This is crazy! How can out government and municipality allow this???

Letitia Franck (Gauteng, 2023-05-25)

#1870

We do not want the close down of the swimmingpool, as it is an awesome opportunity for the kids to learn to swim outside, competition and to be challenged in competition.

Rene Schoeman (Vanderbijlpark, 2023-05-25)

#1872

Hillcrest public swimming should not be closed down. It's a highly valued recreational community asset.

We have to protect sports facilities in this Country inorder to continue producing incredible sportsman and women.
Its very sad to see facilities like this and some athletic stadiums neglected.
Come on think about the countrys future athletes

Lara Sole (Gauteng, 2023-05-26)

#1875

I am passionate about swimming and swim three times a week throughout the year. I believe it is the healthiest sport however without facilities we cannot teach next generations or be competitive in world as we have been. I used to swim many galas there in 1988, 1989 when in the army and my kids did many Gauteng championships there. We must save Hillcrest!!

Gerrit Du PLESSIS (Vanderbijlpark, 2023-05-26)

#1876

This is a key venue for swimming and development of the sport in South Africa.

Michele Goate (Johannesburg, 2023-05-26)

#1879

I am a swimmer who has swum multiple galas at the Hillcrest swimming pool. The Hillcrest pool is one of the very few public 50m pools that can host very big events. My swimming career has excelled due to this swimming pool and taking away this pool will take away the opportunity from other swimmers to reach new heights in their careers. This swimming pool is essential to any young swimmer’s swimming journey. Therefore this swimming pool must be saved.

Bianca Landman (Pretoria, 2023-05-26)

It central & accessible.
It is highly important that this iconic pool, is preserved for future generations.

The community really needs this swimming pool where you could even train through winter. Or mostly at least... it is where the annual inter school gala is held.

Susan Van Biljon (Pretoria, 2023-05-29)

#1929

I enjoy swimming. The hillcrest swimming pool is a part of our history, and is a place for all. It is also a training facility, and a place where schools host galas. It is a place where people have fun and learn to swim.

“Lack of funds” is just another term for a bunch idiot ‘government officials’ in the city that lets everything go to shit while a few are busy lining their own greedy pockets and causing unnecessary fighting and political drama (most notably the African National Circus and the red ants) for everyone.

All this collateral damage from all the drama needs to stop. I am GATVOL for it. We are GATVOL for it.

I am signing this petition because I am ex paralympic swimmer who went to Paralympic Games for 6th times. From 1992 - 2012. I sometimes swam gala at the Hillcrest outdoor pool. I am now coaching para swimmers. Para swimmers loves to swim gala at this pool. And South Africa Disability Games were using this pool. I think Hillcrest outdoor pool is so beautiful pool. We need to keep the Hillcrest outdoor swimming pool. Hillcrest outdoor pool has rich history. Please don't let it shut down.
