I believe this can be done safely, using minimal staff maintaining social distancing and ensuring good hand washing thus would be very low risk.Kathy Aldridge (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

Totally logical .Social distancing easy as it is virtually the norm in any event
Need to have facilities available after sacrifice of lockdown

I am signing this because I can see the essential work required for maintaining tens of thousands of dollars of greens is not going on. It is worked that can be managed safely with the correct work plan.Getting outside is second nature to New Zealanders and there are thousands that play golf, which is currently an egalitarian sport.
These golfers vote, so bear that in mind.
Whether the club is historic with our first NZ Open to a relatively new one, without maintenance they will all face a modern dilemma if they go un-managed. No money to fix them, except those with rich members. Golf will no longer be an egalitarian sport if the clubs that service small towns and communities are forced to close due to horrendous costs in green repairs at their course that they cannot afford
Trevor Prescott (Wellington, 2020-04-08)

I am a green keeper and think that we should be able to return to work a.s.p because we are Essential to our clubs / courses .We wouldn't come into contact with anyone!!! So please let us return before it costs our clubs lots of money to fix the damage from not maintaining our courses.Mike Homer (Paraparaumu, 2020-04-08)

Greenkeepers can work in isolation and therefore maintain their bubble, but the cost to reinstate the greens/course once lockdown concludes is likely to be the death knell of many small courses (look at a larger sporting association like Mainland Netball).Vince Shallcrass (Christchurch, 2020-04-08)

I am a golfer, and also assist with green keeping at Judgeford G C. If we cannot maintain the greens during COVID lock down, we could loose them to both lack of maintenace, and diease. After COVID apart from the time delay in reproducing green there is also a high cost factor. To design, lay out, and contruct a green from scratch can cost up tp $25000.00 individualy. Please help save, club, and golf in NZ. We only need in our case, one green keeper who lives on site, to maintaine our greens.RICHARD LYSAGHT (Porirua City, 2020-04-08)
#2224
Golf courses are used by thousands for exercise. Not maintaining the assets will require millions of dollars to repair with several courses who cannot afford the repair costs to close. The essential maintenance can be done with a few green keepers who will adhere to strict health and safety standards and will not put any additional risk to the Covert-19 epidemic than the many people running online business for non-essential goods.
Colin Fox (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-08)
#2227
our golf course can be safely maintained with a roster and equipment assigned to an individualZabe Orchard (Wellington, 2020-04-08)

I have signed this petition based on the following reasons:-The damage that will result to the greens and the Tee boxes will cause financial hardship to our club, and take a long time to bring the course back to the state that it was in before the shutdown.
The second reason is this:- if it is perfectly acceptable for the Auckland Council to have their contractors mow the berms and the reserves, then it has to be acceptable for our greenkeepers to do essential maintenance to our course.
Peter Turner (R D 6 Warkworth, 2020-04-08)

ARC mowed continue to mow the verges around Omaha while the Golf Course remains unmown and the greens not spread for the various diseases prevalent at this time of year which threaten to die off which will cost the club hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair. All we need is 1-2 qualified greenkeeprs allowed to do limited maintenance work around the course.John Kinley (Warkworth, 2020-04-08)
#2237
Golf is my method of keeping fit and social interaction which I have missed badly during this lock down. To have to wait even longer than necessary to get the golf course back is reprehensible.Alexander Ross (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-08)

It seems obvious?Kirsty Miller (Dunedin, 2020-04-08)

I genuinely believe one person utilising a piece of equipment carrying out their normal work task in isolation will not mitigate any spread of a virus. Show commonsense and allow maintenance of golf courses. Council are doing it to reserves and parks that no one is allowed to use so play fair....!Clive Sharp (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

I am diabetic. Exercise is necessary for my condition and golf is the main exercise I am consistent with. I am doing my utmost while in lock down, however, to be able to get back on a playable course when lock-down is over will be much better for me.Patrick Melaugh (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-08)

I love golf! We live beside of Omaha beach GC and walk every day with our dog on the course. It’s sad to watch our lovely course is getting messy little by little. The council comes and mow the public area every fortnightly, even grasses are almost brown. I can’t see any difference between. Please let the green keepers to maintain our beautiful golf courses in NZ!!Toshie Sharp (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

Golf courses can’t afford the cost of redoing greens that have been neglected. It’s unnecessary loss when a single man can tend greens and distance himself from other workers on the course. Wasted money.Louise Templeton (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

Golf clubs are very important for exercise, health and social interaction for a lot of NewZealanders especially for a lot of older NewZealanders. It will be very important that the clubs can operate once we are out of lockdown for the wellbeing of a lot of NewZealanders.
It will cost the clubs less and they will be more likely to reopen more quickly if maintenance has been maintained.
Kate Lynskey (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-08)

The elderly members of New Zealand rely on golf to give them excerice and keep in touch with fellow friends.Without golf cources this would disappear

I believe this sort of work is essential for the golf courses going forward and it is a job that can be done without contact with others - even if there are two people they can keep their distance on four wheel buggiesJan Gundersen (Wellington, 2020-04-08)
#2291
This is a very low risk activity that will save greens and allow return to recreational activities post lockdown. We only require permission to maintain the greens: other areas will be affected but not critically.Alan Muir (Dunedin, 2020-04-08)

I’m signing this because the likely damage to greens from lack of care, will not only take many months to repair, but also many tens of thousands of dollars as well. This is completely unnecessary.Wayne Gillies (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

I am concerned about the huge cost of reinstating the course.janeen Collier (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

Neglect of Golf courses will lead to serious maintenance issues and huge costs later on to get the Golf Courses once again. Some basic maintenance now will save the coursesMahinda Herath (Auckland, 2020-04-08)

Golfing is one of the largest participation sports in the country across all ages. A small amount of work now will save thousands in the future.Kerry Allan (Whitianga, 2020-04-08)
#2310
It is unbelievably negligent of MBIE to not allow basic course maintenance by authorised staff only to occur throughout the lockdown. If this isn't done then the task to get a course back to an acceptable playing condition may well be too costly for clubs to bear. The social impact of potential course/club closures would be immense.Dick Borgdorff (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

Golf courses will be ruined if not cared for soon. Many people rely on playing golf for fitness and socializing. Please let a green keeper work each dayMaureen Creasy (Kapiti Coast, 2020-04-09)
#2320
I am signing because I believe that green keepers should be able to maintain golf courses especially the greens whilst we are in lockdown. So recovery will be quicker as long and as they stay separated from other staff or work alone.Michael Checkk (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)
#2321

I'm a member of a golf club and see the benefit to get people out playing again but the greens have to be maintained.Allison O'Donnell (AL O'Donnell, 2020-04-09)
#2324
Golf courses will go bust if essential maintenance is not carried out. The cost to repair the damage caused by neglect will be in multi-millions of wasted dollars. Courses will have to remain closed, therefore unable to generate any income. The mental health of thousands of New Zealanders will be further impactedNick Ditchburn (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

Because I think separation can be achieved & hence no laws broken. Particularly where stafff live on the course.Neville Boyd (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

I believe Golf course management is essential for the maintenance of the amenity and for the prompt resumption of activity when the lockdown is completed. The nature of Golf course management is by its nature is isolating and presents little chance of contaminationMike Baines (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)
#2342
Been a very keen golfer with over 50 years of experience and have helped out in course management it is very sad watching our greens mainly not getting the attention they need. Especially knowing that it’s not hard given the right PPE and safety precautions that they is NO risk of spreading this virus.Brian Rowland (New Plymouth, 2020-04-09)

I’m signing because I believe it to be low risk and avoids million dollar repairs post lockdown.Sinead Keaney (Auckland, 2020-04-09)
#2374
I'm signing this because I believe it is essential that a minimum of maintenance be carried out carefully to avoid very costly repairs later and a long time frame before playable again, as in maybe a years time. Also especially at this time of year the greens are under high fungus disease pressure which if untreated can wipe them out, and be a year later before established sufficiently to play on again. This may close down/bankrupt many smaller clubs.
Garry Miln (Christchurch, 2020-04-09)

Golf, bowls, etc are an important part of our economy, one or two green staff could work on a course with having zero contact with anyone. Let's look after our assets while being Covid 19 safe.Steven Irwin (UPPER HUTT, 2020-04-09)

I don’t think we should financially lose out when only one person is needed to maintain the greens.Allan Trow (Taupo, 2020-04-09)
#2383
I play golf at Shandon & do not want to see the course deteriorate during the lock down. There is no reason to not allow a greenkeeper to mow the greens when he can not possibly spread Covid19 to anyone else.Helen Moses (Stokes valley, 2020-04-09)
#2386
Golf course maintenance is a low risk activity. Huge damage occurs without it.Ross Valentine (Wellington, 2020-04-09)
#2388
I see no risk to the public at large if green keeping staff if only an individual working alone at the bare minimum, are able to perform minimal maintenance. The cost to clubs throughout the country will be massive, and this will impact on overall public well being in the months to come, which will be a long cold winter in terms of weather and economic recessionMike Durkin (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)
#2389
I'm signing because I believe it is far more cost effective to do the maintenance now rather than leave it until later as this will cost clubs a lot more.David Pine (Porirua, 2020-04-09)
#2390
I am one of several thousand volunteers who assist on our course's, my time and at my expense. Stop this nonsense and let Greenkeepers do their job.John Rudduck (Oamaru, 2020-04-09)
#2391
There is absolutely no justification for preventing staff doing maintenance work. Government has given total control of the country to Health authorities. The general public are getting feed up with the situation. More common sense is needed.John McCarthy (Wellington, 2020-04-09)
#2393
I'm signing because it is important to save greens which will be unnecessarily destroyed and all for the want of an isolated green keeper.Nigel Bartosh (Auckalnd, 2020-04-09)

I am an avid golfer and been on golf committees and understand the difficulties of running and maintaining a course.Theresa Scholey (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)
#2396
Allowing golf courses to be ruined is foolish especially when in most cases, arrangements can be put in place to ensure turf maintenance is conducted safely. If farmers, supermarket workers etc can work safely - so to can greenkeepersJames Willis (Wellington, 2020-04-09)
