Flowers are more important than wine in Level 4 . They are the one thing that can convey the message of support when people cannot be together . Essential for mental health

Susanna Todd (Hawkes Bay, 2021-09-09)

I absolutely believe flowers should be able to be an essential service in all levels. They can and generally are always contactless. It’s an absolute tragedy these people are losing their livelihood while so many other things can be delivered that are not essential. A huge consideration is required here. Flowers are good for soul, are uplifting, let others know they are being thought of. Aids positive mental health.

Kathy McCurran (Northcote, 2021-09-09)

#2208

Flowers are as nourishing for the soul as fresh fruit and veggies are for the body. Both deserve to be treated equally, especially at times like these where mental health is so important.

Rebecca Swift (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

The risk factor is low so I do not see the point of restricting the flower farmers from being able to conduct business in this way.

Joshua Griffin (Luanda, 2021-09-09)

#2213

there is no "risk" in selling flowers as opposed to other goods - AND it brings joy to people having birthdays in lockdown or who are isolated.

I believe flowers are an essential part of everyday life

Tim Medlicott (Dunedin, 2021-09-09)

#2215

Flowers support my well-being, it would be a great loss if businesses went under because they couldn’t deliver to outlets.

Jacqui D’Ath (Lower Hutt, 2021-09-09)

As a florist it is essential that our flower farmers, large and small, stay in busines because without flowers we will be forced into closing our shops.

It's there livelihood

Our flower farm can't send flowers to the Auckland auction. We have locals ( took time to make these connections) we sell some product but half our business is at the auction.

Katherine Kittson (Tauranga, 2021-09-09)

#2229

I think if you can buy wine over lockdown why not flowers !! They are great for mental health

Kathleen O'Connor (Wellington, 2021-09-09)

Flower farmers deserve fair treatment and flower provide mental and emotional relief during the stress of lockdown

Flowers are proven to contribute to wellbeing so should be on the essential goods list especially if the government is serious about managing mental health.

Last lockdown my elderly mother was stuck at waitakere hospital with no visitors and no communication as it was hard to get a phone to her.
She loves her garden and flowers and couldn't even send her them to say we were thinking of her.
Especially the elderly and the alone are missing out on there families being able to send them something special on special days.. birthdays .. anniversaries and even for funerals.
Florists and horticulturists can work 2 meters apart and deliver contactless which would be benefit to those we want to let know they are not alone and they are thought of..lockdown is hard on all mentally.

I believe flower growers should be supported by the government and be allowed to sell during level 3 & 4

Vicki Jackson (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

Flowers make people happy! We need flowers for our metal health, everyone knows this, including the government who receives a beautiful bouquet for her babies birth. the joy flowers give are love words unspoken.

Flowers are tonic for mental health. And if they are going to Sue it is a huge waste of beauty

Micaela Daniel (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2249

I don’t see why things like alcohol and donuts can be delivered but flowers can’t. They lift my spirits more than either of these 2 things and the fact that they’re all going to waste on compost piles is heartbreaking.

I have a small flower business and don't want to have to pay sky high prices for flowers. They are expensive enough as it is.....

Fiona Ambler (Kerikeri, 2021-09-09)

Its essential in hard times as a gift, pick-me-up and comforting during sad timed

These businesses whether large or small provide not a income for the hard working Flowe Farmers but are a wonderful addition to our environment through providing much needed source of food for the Bee population

We need to save this beautiful industry. Flowers give joy & happiness. I hv a 89 year old mother I buy flowers 💐 for every 2 weeks. They give her so much joy & pleasure.
SAVE THE FLOWERS 🌼💐 🌸

Flowers should be considered essential.

Jo Sutherland (Feilding, 2021-09-09)

#2273

I think flowers should be sold via supermarkets as fruit and veges are

Nicola Preston (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2274

I believe flower growers need to be treated the same as other’s growing vegetables etc. We used to grow salad veges commercially and understand the necessity of flowers for peoples mental health.

Gail Knight (Whitianga, 2021-09-09)

#2276

This is a vital industry for the well being of everyone.
If wine is regarded as essential then surely fresh flowers are also essential. Small businesses like these growing a perishable product that grows beauty should be given contactless selling opportunities. Essential

Margaret Phillips (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2278

growers are available to provide contactless delivery of product to outlets to continue growers to stay viable. Also to supply other areas that have dropped levels to continue in business. This lockdown has had a major effect on product coming south to businesses that are able to trade. If you can sell alcohol, deliver tvs, paint, building products why can growers not be aloud to sell their products.

Sandra lang (Dunedin, 2021-09-09)

I have a friend who is a florist and is finding it heart breaking seeing flowers she needs being thrown away.

Beautiful living art is vital to our wellbeing
at this moment in time. Flowers are this. Contactless sale should be allowed.

The current situation is madness and needs commen sense to prevail

Andrew Clince (Invercargill, 2021-09-09)

These lockdowns have cost us in the vicinity of a quarter of a million dollars in lost sales and the cdirect costs in growing our crops. we cannot sustain these losses on an ongoing basis

Gerald Smith (Feilding, 2021-09-09)

#2298

I am worried about all the small businesses going under. Seasonal growers particularly

Rosemarie Dunning (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2311

I believe flowers can be safely distributed under lockdown. We want to keep the NZ flower industry strong .

Fiona Terry (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2316

Because I am a grower severely limited by this lock down. There is extremely good benefits from flowers given and especially at a lock down.
We have a mental health problem in NZ and people giving and receiving flowers helps a lot in this area. for example a depressed person receiving flowers is hugely uplifting.
Also why is alcohol considered important and essential and flowers not.

Ian Riddell (Hamilton, 2021-09-09)

#2317

We all need flowers, and these people can work safely.

Amber Mccardle (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2319

Flowers are important to my mental health, and a much healthier treat than buying myself wine or chocolate.

Elizabeth Devlin (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2329

I work in the flower industry. Flowers are for all occasions happy or sad and can heavily influence a person's mental and emotional wellbeing. There are many people living alone out there. Flowers show the receiver that they are cared about. And contactless delivery is possible.

Resina Nelson (Nelson, 2021-09-09)

#2338

All who contribute to the economy must be given an equal opportunity to continue to sell their product in a safe way. The term essential should not be used. Rather if you can show that you are able to operate safely, you should be allowed to do so.

Carolyn McGivern (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2339

Flower growers need a break and to see beautiful flowers go to waste is sad. I would love to have been able to buy flowers during lockdown to lift my spirits.

Joanne Stanton (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2342

I am a local flower grower in Auckland. As for family flower business. During the level 4 lockdown, We had to throw away plenty of blooming flowers. Those flowers that we paid a lot of efforts and time to grow. All the Ready picked up flowers No way to go. So We have to sign this petition

Hannah Yu (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2354

"Grown not flown" - I absolutely support NZ Made and NZ Grown. We should be supporting our fellow kiwi growers - I don't want flowers on my table from anywhere else other than NZ. This is devastating to the flower farmers and also the people who buy their flowers. In gloomy, uncertain covid times, why can't peoples day be brightened by our homegrown beautiful blooms?

Nicky Douch-Smith (Te Awamutu, 2021-09-09)

#2356

If we aren’t wasteful with food we shouldn’t be with flowers either :)

Mayra Escobedo (Kapiti, 2021-09-09)

#2360

I believe there needs to be changes made to allow more contactless trading during level 4 for business people.

Wendy Sigvertsen (Dannevirke, 2021-09-09)

#2362

I totally understand the problem flower growers face in these situations.

Maggie Thompson (Rangiora, 2021-09-09)

Flowers are uplifting & improve mental health & help connect people. If alcohol is essential, this primary crop should be too.

Andrea McLeay (Nelson, 2021-09-09)

#2372

Flowers are magic and we need to support the hard workers who grow them for us.

Olivia Reid (Hanmer Springs, 2021-09-09)

liyue Wei (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2378

Flowers are as important as wine and chocolate for well being and we have free access to these at outlets in level three and four.

Shelley Trueman (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2379

It seems unfair to me and sad to hear that it’s crippling businesses. Flowers can be delivered without contact so I believe they should be able to operate with contactless delivery

Eve Simmance (Christchurch, 2021-09-09)

#2380

Flowers are more essential than alcohol!!

Andrea Mexted (Kaukapakapa, 2021-09-09)

I LOVE flowers & believe it is a travesty for the industry to sink. Would love flowers delivered under level 4

Elizabeth Barry (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2390

All farmers need to sell their product. Flower growers are just as important as farmers and fruit and veg - why should they have to dump their yearly crop. Labour Government will never get my vote!

Heather Page (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2393

I support this

Sal Maxwell (Cambridge, 2021-09-09)

#2400

I'm signing as I believe flowers/flower growers are essential and can operate at level via contactless delivery.
