Living in the area there have been countless incidents of morons letting people's dogs out and also breaking and entering. This dog was protecting its family and the council should focus on bringing the crime rate down instead of euthanising an adorable and completely loved family pet.
This is yet again another example of the council taking the last option and not looking after its community. Don't destroy an animal to protect yourselves - meet the animal, talk to the children of the family and take note that this animal has never been involved in anything like this before, research this correctly. If there is an iota of doubt with the person making the claim then that's not good enough - both parties should be given a warning.

Just not right

Because it's not fair dog just doing his job

(Ingham, 2017-09-12)

#2409

Destroying dogs is just a dumb policy, especially when a person is an uninvited guest onto private property

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2411

I believe he was only doing his job. Protecting his family and his home. A dogs life should not be destroyed without proof that it wasn't in the yard

(Hervey Bay, 2017-09-12)

#2417

This dog was protecting his home and property and family from criminal trespassers and burgulars intent on theft and criminal damage!

(Nerang, 2017-09-12)

#2418

I believe, we are entitled to have our family pets protect us from intruders, murdering this dog for protecting his owner is wrong

(Kalgoorlie, 2017-09-12)

#2419

The inruder should go to Jail for breaking into the families property. Winston was protecting his family. My Jack Russell would do the same if anyone tried to break into our house yard.

(airlie beach, 2017-09-12)

#2420

No pet should be punished for defending their home

(Cairns, 2017-09-12)

#2422

I cannot believe what I'm reading?!? So a dog is in HIS yard and an intruder comes into HIS yard in the middle of the night and now the dog is impounded and his owner fighting to stop the dog from being put down??? What the??? Is this for real? Come on MRC surely you see how absolutely ridiculous this is! Free the poor dog for goodness sake.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2423

This dog was protecting his property and his family. Why kill this poor dog for protecting those that he loves

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2425

Doing what they are doing to Winston is completely wrong! You should never do this to an animal. If a human assualted another person you would need proof before charging them but you are just assuming that an animal has done something wrong and killing them. That is disgraceful and makes me sick to think that you would do that to a poor, innocent animal without any solid proof.

(Cobram, 2017-09-12)

#2426

No animal should be put down

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2429

It's just wrong, dogs are there to protect property and owners, council it is just poor form and don't know how you can sleep at night knowing you rob a family of the love and protection their dog offers. Shame

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2434

this dog was protecting his family and his home the intruder came into his yard and all he did was protect it...Wake up to yourself Mackay pound and let this dog go back to his family who love him..

#2439

The dog was doing it's job

(Gladstone, 2017-09-12)

#2442

There is no way this animal would ever be considered dangerous, this is ridiculous.

(BUCASIA, 2017-09-12)

#2444

Thats bull shit! Proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Thats someone fur baby! He has the right to protect his house as much as we do.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2445

This is wrong

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2446

Its wrong the dog was protecting his home..save winston

(Gold coast, 2017-09-12)

#2447

I'm signing this because I believe winston was just protecting his territory and family

(Boyne island, 2017-09-12)

#2448

Dog was just protecting itself and wouldn't have been in this situation if the intruder was taken out of the equation

(Darwin, 2017-09-12)

#2449

This poor dog was inside his own property and just protecting his own family

(Sunshine Coast, 2017-09-12)

#2451

Name the council !! Proof or no proof Winston was doing his job protecting his home & family. Council spend rates payers more efficiently than taking a loved family dog!! Return Winston to his family...

(Captain Creek, 2017-09-12)

#2452

This dog does not deserve to die for an allegation from someone who was trespassing!

(Walkerston, 2017-09-12)

#2453

Because winston deserves to live

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2455

Where is the people's right for protection of property? This dog was onion hie own property and doing his duty. You have no right to come into this property and take this dog on the word of a would be thief, murderer. Give this dog back to his owner.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2456

No dog should be put down. He was protectin property. How about charging the person for trespassing and that person should pay all damages including all medical care

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2457

No life should be ended on hearsay of someone. There should proof and more so if the plaintiff entered the property without permission the animal was protecting it territory. A very natural reaction when threatened by unknown persons. The dog could have been hit or attached, where is the evidence to show that had not happened!

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2458

Because the dog was just protecting its home

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2460

The dog was within its own property, an unknown person intruding the house deserves to have these consequences as THEY are in the wrong!!! The dog deserves to have a life, a low life scum who was doing the wrong thing does not deserve a life

(Cairns, 2017-09-12)

#2467

I'm signing because this council needs MANAGEMENT & an attitude adjustment. Complaints are supposed to be investigated.
Warnings given.
But from what information has been provided it appears to me the dog was doing it's job.

(Toowoomba, 2017-09-12)

#2468

Thieving pricks should be shot. Dogs a hero and should be rewarded for defending its yard and doing its job

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2469

This dog was doing its job and now is at risk of losing its life. Disgusting. Council should be ashamed of themselves.

(Rockhampton, 2017-09-12)

#2470

He should not be killed for protecting his family, beautiful dog xoxo

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2471

Don't kill the dog you council scum!!!

(Melbourne, 2017-09-12)

#2473

Worked in rescue and have seen many "dangerous" dogs wrongly named.
This is beyond a joke , and policy and the law needs to be adjusted. Dogs are a mans best friend - this dog was protecting his best friend, behind a fence on his own property.
Free this poor dog - you guys should be ashamed in yourself!

(Perth, 2017-09-12)

#2474

Animals and guardians have rights. You have the right to protect your property and family. Innocent until proven guilty. You take the word of a thief.

(Bloomsbury Rural, 2017-09-12)

#2476

the dog was doing what was expected = protecting his family and property from an intruder ?, if the dog was not there to do this then there could have been all kinds of things happen even the murder of the family .SET HIM FREE

(pacfic haven, 2017-09-12)

#2477

Its the right thing to do

(Rubyvale, 2017-09-12)

#2479

Does not deserve to die for defending his home from a lowlife theif

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2480

This is completely unfair! The person was Trespassing! IF THE DOG DID bite the trespasser then they were doing their duty protecting their family. This is one of the most ridiculous cases i hace EVER heard. Release the dog back to its family now!.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2483

Trespassing is against the law! Prosecute the law breaker, not the dog or owner! What the hell are you thinking???

(Hobart, 2017-09-12)

#2485

The dog was doing it's job..
the perpetrator should be put down, not the dog defending its property!!

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2486

A dog should not be put down, for protecting it's property and family!

(Childers, 2017-09-12)

#2488

I'm signing this because staffy's are the most gentle dogs I've ever owned and they don't attack unless being provoked, which this dog must have obviously felt some sort of danger for himself and family to lash out at the intruder going into his property, he was only protecting his family, which is in their nature

(Sunshine Coast, 2017-09-12)

#2491

Winston was only protecting his family & their property.

(Tannum sands, 2017-09-12)

#2492

The dog is doing what it should, protecting his family

(Sunshine coast, 2017-09-12)

#2494

This is bullshit! The intruder deserves what they got. Hopefully this saves winston

(Blacks beach, 2017-09-12)

#2495

Winston should be given a second chance! He was doing exactly as all dogs do - protecting their family from intruders!

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2497

This dog was only doing his job and shouldn't be euthanased for that. the intruder is not the victim though that is what is happening here wake up mackay council use some common sense. This is like saying it's ok to be an intruder.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2500

It's wrong and unjust.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2505

If the council can not provide a safe environment for us to live in and we have to get a faithful dog to protect us while we sleep whats going on. If a police dog bites a crim thats his job. As soon as they trespass they are breaking the law. We now live in a society of protect the criminal. What on earth are we doing. SAVE THE DOG PUT THE CRIMINAL DOWN.

(Charters Towers, 2017-09-12)

#2507

Has this country gone mad????
Wake up!!!!!!!
Leave thia dog and family alone.... dog did his job and family are ok....

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2508

An absolute diagrace. If some intrudes. Thats there fault!!

(Sarina, 2017-09-12)

#2509

I believe Winston has a right to protect his property and family. Why would someone be there at that time of the morning? It's obvious that he did not know the person.

(Beerwah, 2017-09-12)

#2510

Winston was only protecting his family and his property. Shame on the Mackay Council!

(Rockhampton, 2017-09-12)

#2512

I'm signing this as it is so wrong! No proof??? Also that intruder should be find. The dog knew they were trespassing! What was the guy doing in the first place. Let this dog go home.

(Bundaberg, 2017-09-12)

#2513

A dog is there to keep your yard and your family safe. This dog was just doing it's job. If the person was not trespassing then this wouldn't of happened. Don't punish the dog :(

(Rockhampton, 2017-09-12)

#2515

killing pets unless absolutely proven that they are vicious and dangerous is an appalling and shameful act from council.

(Rural View, 2017-09-12)

#2516

I'm signing this petition because this poor dog was only protecting his property, That is one of the reason why people have a dog.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2517

This dog does not deserve to die from protecting his own yard! Wake up and see this baby needs to go home to his owner.

(Coonabarabran, 2017-09-12)

#2522

If someone is on your property that shouldn't be there thedog is only doing his job. The laws are ridiculous here that trespassers can injure themselves and then sue you for it Ect. This dog should not be put to sleep!

(Deebing heights, 2017-09-12)

#2524

People have a right to protect their home

(Bundaberg, 2017-09-12)

#2526

The dog was doing his job protecting family and property. Stop protecting the criminals. They appear to be getting more protection than the people they are violating.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2529

He was only protecting his family...he shouldnt have to pay with his life.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2530

I too have a dog and if she bites an intruder then she should be praised not put down .....Winton is a hero!

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2532

The dog is not savage

(Cairns, 2017-09-12)

#2534

What type of power tripped moron would think its okay to take and murder someone else's dog because he did his job and protected his property from an intruder? This continent is run by little sooky girls.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2538

This is so wrong on so many levels. A family dog protecting their family.
The person who got bitten for being on their property needs to be charged with trespassing.
This dog did no wrong!

(Gladstone, 2017-09-12)

#2539

Hes protecting his home

(Broadford, 2017-09-12)

#2540

There's no proof and sounds like this person was on the property at a stupid time of the night when he shouldn't be. I'd want my dogs to do the same if they felt they needed to protect my family

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2543

it is unfair that a dog performing his duties in keeping his family and yeard safe is getting put down.

(calen, 2017-09-12)

#2546

Nobody should loose there pet over these circumstances. Please have a heart and do the right thing. The dog was protecting his family, natural insticnt, he should be given a medal, and the sum that was at there property should not have a say in any of this

(Diamond Creek, 2017-09-12)

#2547

It's bullshit, a person shouldn't be entering your property to start with. The dog was only protecting his place.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2548

I believe the council should show you proof of what your dog has done. They claim to have it so produce it or else an innocent dog could lose his life

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2550

A dogs natural instinct is to protect their yard. Someone who shouldnt be on the premises deserves to get whatever comes their way.

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2551

That dog was just doing its job! It was protecting its property, THE INTRUDER IS IN THE WRONG! DO NOT PUT THIS DOG DOWN!!

(Hervey Bay, 2017-09-12)

#2552

The dog was doing it's job in protectin the property. If the dog wasn't there who know what would of happened, it was clearly a suspicious act on the 'victims' behalf. Why else would they be entering an unknown property in the middle of the night.

(Bundaberg, 2017-09-12)

#2553

The dog was doing its job protecting the property and the idiot was trespassing so he deserved it

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2554

This is so wrong!

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2555

I'm signing because the laws surrounding "dog attacks" and so called "dangeroud dogs" needs to be reviewed. The law does not provide exemptions where an animal was defending their home or themselves and it should. And I would hope people would sign for me if my dog were in this position

(Moranbah, 2017-09-12)

#2560

I believe if he wasn't in the yard he wouldn't have been bitten. The criminal is more dangerous then the dog trying to protect its family

(Ingham, 2017-09-12)

#2562

A dog should not be punished for protecting their family. The person who was alleged to be bitten was entering this property at their own risk.

(Singleton, 2017-09-12)

#2564

Let this dog live & let commonsense prevail !.

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2567

The dog was doing his job protecting his family and residence . It's pathetic how an intruder can come on your property and your not allowed to protect yourself and others living there.. FREE WINSTON

(Brisbane, 2017-09-12)

#2568

The dog was on his own property. There is no way this dog should be taken away from his family and destroyed.

(WENDOUREE, 2017-09-12)

#2569

I'm signing this because it is unfair for the council to do this.... The same thing happened to my older brother and his dog... If someone is in ur yard especially out night time the dog is just doing its job so why should the dog get blamed for...

(Gladstone, 2017-09-12)

#2572

This dog was protecting its home & family.
With the amount of break ins going on in Mackay, all families should have a dog to protect their homes

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2573

The dog was only protecting his family

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2576

This is not right! The dog was protecting his family from a criminal! Would the Dad be charged if he had tackled/punched the intruder?

(Mackay, 2017-09-12)

#2577

It's not a dogs fault if an intruder trespasses on its property. It should be able to react in any way it feels appropriate. Would you put down a guard dog for stopping a thief at a car yard? Stupid laws get stupider by the year...

(Hervey Bay, 2017-09-12)

#2580

I have 2 of the sookiest dogs ever but I would HOPE if someone was sneaking around our yard in the middle of the night they would do something about it. Family dogs like thisare just protecting their family and no proof!!! How is that lawful? Another example of our councils thinking they are the law in our communities. Hoping he comes home safe x

(Bundaberg, 2017-09-12)

#2581

I'm signing because you can't kill innocent family pets.

(Hervey Bay, 2017-09-12)

#2585

A dog is there to protect the house and family!
Fine the idiot that broke in the house and charge him with break and enter and attempt to do a robbery. ******* morons.

(Toowoomba, 2017-09-12)

#2586

If someone came onto my property in the middle of the night unannounced I'd expect my dog to bite them. How dare they think they have the right to put this dog down.

(Alligator Creek, 2017-09-12)

#2587

The dog was protecting his family from this wanker!

(Emerald Qld, 2017-09-12)

#2588

This is complete bullshit! This dog has protected the family and house. Why does an intruder have more rights? Very dissapointed. This dog is a hero!

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2589

No animal should be punished for defending their home and family

(Maryborough, 2017-09-12)

#2590

Hes a beautiful dog and clearly was doing his job to protect his family.

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2596

Because I believe that is one of the reasons we have dogs. It is the owners right to protect his family and property. If that person there where he wasn't meant to be then the dog wouldn't have bitten

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)

#2598

He deserves to live.

(Sydney, 2017-09-12)

#2600

Dogs that stop intruders on your property should be rewarded not punished. How else but bite them can they do their job?

(Townsville, 2017-09-12)
