Flowers should be sold contactlessly so that Florists can sell them to people. Flowers are essential for people's mental health & wellbeing.Lorraine Wilks (Tauranga - 18 March, 2021-09-09)

We need to support the as many businesess as we can. Lockdown closes so many unnecessarily. The government needs to stop having blanket bans and look at industries that can operate safely at different levels. Plus we all need flowers!!!Bryce Waldie (Mt Maunganui, 2021-09-09)

I feel it is unfair for growers to lose their livelihood when there are ways to have contactless purchases. I also think we all need beautiful flowers in our lives right now.Sue Irvine (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

So many small businesses are unable to operate because of this lockdown. Contactless is a viable option. Flowers are going to waste, money is being lost.Rebecca New (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

Flower growers can easily deliver their flowers in a safe and contactless manner. Flowers bring joy and are an import party of life - especially when we’re in lockdown. They are an important business whose product has a short shelf life and no other use so they need to operate at level 4.Ashley Macpherson (Havelock North, 2021-09-09)

Flower growers have shown how they can distribute their product contactlessly. They are suffering, and some of them may not survive if not allowed to sell their product.Todd Martin (Takanini, 2021-09-09)

Flowers are a perishable product that the producers have put significant effort and money into producing, and its grossly unfair that they can't provide their product to retail outlets.Catherine MacGregor (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

People in the flower industry work bloody hard to get their crops to a stage for sale and it’s awful that they are unable to sell them or distribute them at level 4Amy Ellis (Masterton, 2021-09-09)

There is no reason that flowers, like lettuce, cannot be sold safely. We certainly need the sunshine they provide and the growers need to be supported.

Because it’s outrageous that flowers can not be sold! Lockdown crucifying flower growers businesses for not good reason. Other perishables allowed to be sold. Flowers are wonderful for peoples well being and mental health, something else that lockdowns are taking a toll on.Fiona Fletcher (Christchurch, 2021-09-09)

Because it is a mis justice to not give flower farms the same privileges as other farms, it is also a gross mis justice to waste beautiful flowers. Not very environmentally conscious to keep farmers form actually selling product but instead encourage more waste?Jordyn Hall (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

I own a flower shop Mint Floral in Whangarei and we had nearly $10,000 wholesale worth of stock in our shop when level 4 was enforced, so we lost all that value on top of loss of revenue while we were closed. We had hundreds of requests and messages during lockdown from people requesting flowers who were very upset and really confused as to why flowers weren't deemed 'essential'. I had people sending me screenshots of other businesses selling makeup, giftboxes and alcohol, saying "why arent you allowed to sell flowers then?" All our deliveries are contactless anyway. Flowers should be made essential during lockdowns!Jasmine Fuller (Whangarei, 2021-09-09)

Deeming flower growers product as non essential not only kills the growth of their vital businesses but also stops people from having an uplifting experience to feed their souls and dress their homes in these difficult times of lockdown in Aotearoa.🌸🌼🌷🌹Wendy Rees (Palmerston. Otago, 2021-09-09)

The flower industry is vitally important and shouldn’t be undermined by these restrictions placed on them. To have to dump what is ready for market and which has been grown and cared for just like any farmer would is cruel and unfair. Please give them the respect and recognition they so deserve by protecting them and their vital crops.Tanya Bardell-Young (Wellington, 2021-09-09)

Flowers are the best way for people to express emotion for special events that COVID is stopping us from celebrating. The huge waste of time, money & energy expended by these growers should be stopped immediately & contactless sales should be instigated NOWGlenis Claydon (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

I am a florist, and I can see the direct impact it is having on our industry! Please make this essential with contactless delivery so we can continue to brighten people’s days, or use in a loved ones farewell. Seems unfair you can buy pies and other non essential items shipped not not flowers.Renee Bell (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

I quite often send flowers to my friends and family in New Zealand and feel it’s pretty poor from with what’s going on at the moment. Certain scents and colours are scientifically proven to lift mood and the fact flowers do this in a natural way tells me that these are ESSENTIAL to peoples happiness ❤️Morgan Sanders (Gold Coast, 2021-09-09)

The Industry is being unfairly discriminated against and the resurgent cost implications for the industry going forward are likely to cripple the growers and the sellers even more devastatingly than the last one which has been teetering on the edge of sustainabilityMaria Osborn (Whitianga, 2021-09-09)

I’m signing this because I support flower farmers and their incredibly seasonal produce. Their farming is just as essential as the tree logging which was wizzing by my windows during level four lockdown in Gisborne. My mental health would also be better for having a bunch of tulips on my kitchen table than the bottle of gin in my pantry.Charlotte Hedley (Raglan, 2021-09-09)

I'm signing because I am an employer in this sector. We provide 30 ➕ jobs. Some how floral is the only sector in supermarkets that has been dribbled it as not being able to be sold. This is incredulous. Flowers give so much joy. They are great for mental well being. So why during level 4 did govt single this industry out unfairly. It is time to right the wrong. It takes leadership to right a wrong.John Gallagher (Christchurch, 2021-09-09)
