Because most flower businesses are small business from home. It must be heart breaking to see huge amount of work just pershing. Flowers lift Spiritus and are a kind gift in lockdown!

Flowers are everything. Birthdays celebrations and funerals don't stop due to covid.

It’s important to support our local businesses and family’s to be able to earn their income and survive

Meghan Turton (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

I support the cut flower industry of NZ and recognise that this perishable item should be able to be sold/distributed under all levels of lockdown for our benefit and wellbeing and in recognition of their hard work!

Katrina Paton (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2821

Flowers bring joy & we need more of that - especially now.

Monique Enoka-Davidson (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2825

Flower growers should be allowed to distribute and sell their flowers 💐 in a safe way to keep their business afloat.

Cheryl Fowler (Ashburton, 2021-09-10)

Flower sellers are suffering financially, through loss of sales and emotionally through having to cut their flowers anyway, then to have to throw away a beautiful resource.
If they go out of business, New Zealand loses their flowers, their skills, and many employment opportunities.
There are options that would allow them to trade safely.
After all, what would our weddings and funerals be without any fresh flowers?

I support the nz flower farmer wanting to have access to markets during lockdowns. Flowers have the ability to uplift emotions at these times.

I love having pretty brunches of NZ grown flowers sitting in my bench.

Cyndi Torckler (New Plymouth, 2021-09-10)

#2837

Horrific waste of flowers that could be enjoyed safely in our houses. Unnecessary waste and loss of income.

Amy Thompson (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2853

I grow flowers too. It is impossible to fathom the process of selecting seed, sowing, nurturing, fertilizing, soil preparation, staking and so on and so forth that happens for many months before we even see a single bloom. We grow them because we love beauty and we love nature, but also because of what they mean to other people. Having to throw these blooms away is just criminal.

Nicole Gerber (Temuka, 2021-09-10)

#2854

Please allow contactless flower deliveries to help keep this industry going

Dawn Lodge-Osborn (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2856

I believe this should be allowed to happen.Flowers are an important part of our lives

Jan Skelton (Waiheke Island, 2021-09-10)

#2859

Because if you can deliver other items safely in this lockdown, why not flowers? They have less ‘touch points’ than a delivered package.

Jessica Cooper (Christchurch, 2021-09-10)

#2862

Flowers should be under primary production under level 4 etc. If we can get coffee beans, we should be able to get flowers. If exports orders can't be met, then overseas markets will go elsewhere, destroying years of hard work. The Australian government has supported the cut flower industry during covid19 lockdowns to enable local and exported production, saving, and increasing employment in this sector. The NZ government should as well

Derilene Aston (Wellington, 2021-09-10)

Flowers are good for your mental health, and loving the environment you are in. Far more important for your spirit than alcohol which won’t go bad if left in the shops. Not to mention the waste of all the flowers being tossed. Please let us bring some sunshine into our homes!

Leah Mizrahi (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2865

I want as many cut flower growers to continue in business as possible

Melissa Peterson (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2892

I believe they can operate safely during level 4 in NZ. They will not compromise our efforts to eliminate Delta.

Kirsty Sharp (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2894

Flower growers are not having a fair deal. Everyone needs flowers especially during lockdowns. Tragic that growers are forced to compost those beautiful flowers. Some are given away freely which is great but growers are losing their hard earned income and deserve better. Heartbreaking for them.

June Reinink (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2896

I would like this to be a fair and affordable business for all florists

Kelsey Roderick (Clive, 2021-09-10)

#2898

I believe its devastating to the whole industry to have throw all their hard work away - they have invested time and money into growing those flowers

As a former nursery owner I know the heart and soul that goes into producing a live crop. The loss for growers is not only financial but emotional.

Melanie Tomes (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2919

I am signing because there is disparity and lack of flexibility in what is and isn't considered 'essential'. I deem flowers to be an essential for the soul - even more so when times are tough.

Sue Witteman (Havelock North, 2021-09-10)

#2920

I absolutely love cut flowers, and have missed my pure happiness at looking at my freshly cut flowers. Contactless delivery would still work. I feel for the flower growers.

Tascha Corlett (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2923

Flower farmers need to be able to safely sell their product during Level 4 LDs.
Flowers cannot be put on hold, or frozen , they come when they come and the farmers only make their living when they are ready to sell. Please be reasonable and let our flower farmers flourish. Flower s are the art in our dreary LD lives.

Nicola Pattison (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2924

I’m signing because I was lucky enough to have flowers during lockdown and it honestly made such a difference to me - I can’t bear thinking of the time and effort gone into growing these flowers and the waste of so much beauty

Sue Sparks (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2927

Being able to send flowers particularly for bereavement in these times when you can’t attend funerals and to support growers would be great.

Vicki Matheson (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2934

I'm signing this because I believe flower growers should be included as an essential service. Flowers are very beneficial to mental health and many people would have benefitted from receiving flowers especially during the Level 4 Lockdown.

Tor Dickson (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2935

I work in the flower industry and it supports my family

Brent Griffiths (Christchurch, 2021-09-10)

#2936

It’s not fair you can get donuts but not flowers in level 4

Carly Ellis (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2941

I am signing because it terrible how all these flowers / like food/ are thrown away and dumped in these circumstances... there has to be a way to distribute these goods safely and fairly.

AJ Aggrey (Tamaki Makaurau, 2021-09-10)

#2944

I am a former florist and after forming relationships with many national growers I understand how hard their industry is and believe they deserve support . If we don’t, flower farms with cease and we will have to import flowers which is not as good for our nz economy, nor is it as environmentally conscious when one considers the travel that international flower imports impose.

Katie Rosati (Wellington, 2021-09-10)

#2946

I am a florist and I firmly agree that these flowers can be delivered safely just as any other fresh produce. The flower farmers deserve to sell their flowers they have put hours of labour into growing.
I think it is outright cruel for them to have to see their stock dying and feeling hopeless because they cannot put it to use.

Carla Hill (New Plymouth, 2021-09-10)

#2949

I believe flowers are an important factor in the mental health of individuals. They contribute as objects of beauty which soothe and nourish the soul as well as being vehicles for conveying care, concern and love for friends, colleagues and family.

Lyn Taylor (Alexandra, 2021-09-10)

#2952

We are ruining the livelihoods of flower grower - second year in a row. I think they should be able to sell their stock following Covid protocols

Sally Sutherland (Havelock North, 2021-09-10)

#2954

It's not just the huge economic blow to the growers and florists, it's the environmental impact of having to compost so much product at once and such a waste but also so many people have had birthdays or celebrations in level 3 or 4 that they can't know celebrate so to be able to order flowers and have them safely contactless delivered would benefit both the giver and the recipient!

Sara Coppell (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2955

Florists deserve to have their industry recognized !

Katie Barden (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2959

Because wasting the time and energy that goes into growing flowers is unnecessary

Tamlyn Nicoll (Christchurch, 2021-09-10)

#2960

Allowing flower growers to sell their perishable products at Level 4 seems an obvious, necessary, and long overdue step towards supporting this primary industry.
New Zealand-grown flowers - like food - are more sustainable, more environmentally-friendly, and better for our economy.
If alcohol can pass muster as an 'essential' of life during a lockdown, then a valuable perishable that improves mental health without injuring the body should be a non negotiable.
The Government must acknowledge not only the importance of the cut flower industry (and related products and services) to consumers and economy, but also the investment and livelihood of growers, and the very future existence of the industry.
Sales from spring bulbs fund the next round of investment - more seed, compost, and other supplies for the coming seasons.
To put it bluntly, it is in the Government's power to cut the industry off at the knees...or to save it.

Jaime Hungerford-Morgan (Wanganui, 2021-09-10)

#2961

It's unfair. If I a bakery can delivery cooked food to my door why can't the florist? It's an absolute waste. And there are still some flowers in supermarkets? Completely unfair

Ivana Sosich-Clarke (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2966

Flower are essential to our well being they provoke different emotions

Rachel Harper (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2972

I am a florist and absolutely support being able to work during lockdown 4 and less as we can do so without any form of contact. This is our income and the way we provide for our families, by being able to work we take the strain off government grants! Providing flowers is such a big part of mental and emotional health!

Estell Potgieter (Beachlands, 2021-09-10)

#2981

I believe we should actively look to reduce waste particularly where hard work has been behind the wasted products

Logan Collinge (Wellington, 2021-09-10)

#2983

This needs to change so we can continue to have local flower growers!

Fenella Andrews (New Plymouth, 2021-09-10)

#2985

I think contactless delivery can be done in level 4. The fact yet again the govt is forcing these growers to throw away their product is inconceivable

Melissa Wallace (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

#2989

I do not think it is fair that agricultural businesses like flower growing cannot operate in level 4 . We allow vineyards and wine sales at level 4.
