Flowers are a highly perishable good and also boost mental health. They should be treated no differently to other perishable goods that are allowed to be sold in strict lockdowns.Daniele Clarke (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

I'm signing because flowers can be sold and delivered contactless and once again businesses are impacted by the lock down restrictions. The labour government, does not help the business owner. It's just disgustingJanina Claridge (Invercargill, 2021-09-10)

It's so sad these businesses are losing out on some much income and people are missing out on an uplifting delivery in these hard times. With deliveries being covid safe/supportiveCourtney Callaghan-Pope (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

I’m signing because a bunch of fresh flowers do wonders to brighten up your mood when feeling down or having a tough time. Allowing contactless deliveries during alert levels 4 & 3 would put a smile on so many people’s facesPip Ryland (Lower Hutt, 2021-09-10)

As a florist I agree with growers needs and a friend of mine had a baby during lockdown, I couldn't see her so flowers would have been great!Kelly Quinn (Waipa, 2021-09-10)

The law is ludicrous, same applies for butchers fish shops , bakers etcFlowers bring joy and happiness and we should be able to purchase these regardless of lockdown levels.

I’m a florist and my business can’t thrive if the growers can’t thrive and stay in business. We have to support each other to keep the NZ flower industry going. We don’t want to be importing product when it can be grown right here. People need flowers for the joy they bring into their lives.Annwyn Tobin (Wellington, 2021-09-10)

The importance of flowers is crucial to our daily lives. It is so vital for our mental health to take in the beauty that nature has.Flowers symbolise so many aspects of our lives and for many people having the ability to purchase beautiful flowers for others and ourselves provides a sense of gratitude, something that we all need so much right now.
On an industry level, supporting NZ growers and the ever expanding flower market within NZ again is crucial for increasing GDP. We cannot continue to cripple industries and all the individuals that make up these industries.
A solution to trading safely can be easily achieved.

I’m signing because the past couple of year s have already been tough on small businesses and while lockdown is important, this one Judas spring comes is especially hard on our flower farmers.Flowers are important. They feed our mind and soul if not our bodies. If alcohol suppliers can sell and courier their wares, why not flowers, if they are able to be done safely?
Dee Radhakrishnan (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

Flowers are essential. More essential than alcohol in my opinion, or upmarket clothing stores that have been allowed to continue to trade. They are able to be delivered contactless and would be a lovely way to let family or friends know you're thinking of them in a hard time to boost moral.Jody Young (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

It is such a waste of money and hard earned blood sweat and tears. If we can go to the supermarket they can sell their flowersLynda Casey (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

Flower farmers not being able to sell their produce could mean financial ruin for many as their entire season's earnings could be lost. They can be safely sold without contact. It is ridiculous to think that alcohol is considered essential - in a health response!Ruth Morse (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

This is awful, letting all these beautiful spring flowers go to waste. It’s the small things like flowers that bring joy to our lives.Natasha Kotlarevsky (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

1. Flowers are perishable and to watch growers throw out all their hard work is devastating2. Flowers bring joy. When times are tough in level 4 does it not make sense to allow people to experience a little joy of flowers?
3. What makes flowers any different than veggies? If safe contactless sales and distribution occur with veggies why would flowers be any different?
Cathy Caveney’s (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

There is so much research that shows the health benefits of having cut flowers in your home and work environments. When we are all facing such an uncertain time amongst this global pandemic I am shocked that flowers are deemed "non-essential" when consumers can get access to so many other items!Rebecca Jones (Auckland, 2021-09-10)

I beileve that flower traders deserve consideration and a fairer go when it comes to lockdown levels and their ability to trade and I also beileve that flowers are as meaningful and necessary as other goods still being traded especially when it comes to mental health and wellness and what receiving flowers can do for an individual not in the greatest headspaceBrooke McAlister (Te Kauwhata, 2021-09-11)

I feel flower farmers and all growers of produce need to be able to sell their produce during Level 4. Fresh produce should never be allowed to perish. I would feel safer visiting the butcher or green grocer in Level 4, than a large supermarket. Use common sense and let's be fair to all.Kate Kempe (Auckland, 2021-09-11)
