Preserve NYC Employees' (Active & Retired) Healthcare

I am signing this petition because when I retired I was told that my health care benefits would remain the same, therefore I question how this retirement benefit can now change.

Carole Gambello (Brooklyn, 2022-03-15)

#3207

When we took the job we were promised these benefits, to go behind our backs and try to save money was a rooted thing to do. Times are hard and retirees need our promised health care.

What I have worked for for almost 35 years is at stake.

Susan Kalish (Bayside, New York, 2022-03-15)

our unions and the city should be ashamed to use seniors and others on Medicare as their scapegoats because Deblasio robbed the city of 8 million dollars. We were promised our healthcare would continue in retirement, as it was in service.

Retirees deserve benefits promised to them and need to receive the best health care

I am signing because I do not want my health care plan changed.

Anne Flynn (Glen Oaks, 2022-03-15)

I want to stay on traditional Medicare. I am against the privatization of Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans are like having the fox watch the henhouse.

Susan Moisoff (Woodmere, 2022-03-15)

#3227

Traditional Medicare is the best health insurance I've had. Elaborate pre-authorizations for tests and procedures are not good for patients but good for insurance company's bottom line.

Eileen Moran (Bayside, 2022-03-15)

#3233

I believe this new medical plan is sub par to say the least and was not negotiated in good faith In addition it was not what was primitive us

People fought for these basic benefits. Phony liberal politicians try to take them away, here, in France and worldwide. Gotta protect healthcare.

I cant afford to pay the $191.00 a month for the health care change in benefits. Being injured on my job I think I deserve my benefits especially since I've been retired over 30 years.

Loralee Roberts (Massapequa, 2022-03-15)

#3249

As RETIREE we need to keep what NYC PROMISED when we got HIRED!!!

Gonzalez Norma (Orlando, 2022-03-15)

I would like to meet here to support us and deny the appeal.

Linda Milioto (Brooklyn, 2022-03-15)

#3253

I am a NYC Dept. Of Ed. Retiree. When I retired I was assured that the cost of my health benefits would be fixed throughout my retirement. Being on a fixed income it would be prohibitive and would substantially decrease my retirement income.

I have been a teacher for 25 years and do not want the city to support the Advantage Plan for my medical insurance. I want to stay on Traditional Medicare and not have to pay extra.

Mary Ann Baldari (New York, 2022-03-15)

#3262

We were promised this healthcare for life and I want to keep it the way it is. I don’t believe the hype associated with the advantage plan.

Dorothy Aiello (Staten Island, 2022-03-15)

There are options that were never considered to save money. They just went to a MA plan. I wanted to serve on the committee but was not allowed. Why not ask for ideas from consumers or use the ideas already proposed?

I am signing this petition because the original Medicare and GHI Senior Care has been very beneficial for me. I have no complaints about this plan,

EILEEN VARANO (Ozone Park, 2022-03-15)

#3267

This plan that the City was trying to enroll me would have a great impact on me financially and my health. I retired on one third of my pension.

I’m signing this because my spouse worked for FDNY for 37 years and the medical insurance upon his retirement was something g we were promised and looked forward to.

Kathleen Polcha (Yorktown Heights, 2022-03-15)

I’m signing because Medicare Advantage is the worst medical insurance for seniors.

AMADOR RIVERA (Brooklyn, 2022-03-15)

#3291

The City needs to be held responsible for its obligations to its employees. I worked over 30 years for my benefits. If the City needs help finding savings, I'm sure I have ideas.

I was promised my choice of health care for life at retirement

Joanne Carone (Queens, 2022-03-15)

#3317

I want to keep the health insurance I was promised and paid for - Medicare and GHI. Doing this ( forcing a for profit plan or a punishing fee ) to defenseless retirees is immoral.

Marlyn Lawrence (Bronx, 2022-03-15)

#3318

I'm signing this since we paid into a system while we working for the Department of Education and that is the system we are entitled to. No matter what we should be grandfathered in the system we paid into, otherwise we probably would have paid less to the system that NYC wants to change for the retirees.

Michael Meisel (Fresh Meadows, 2022-03-15)

#3320

Iʼm signing because what the city is attempting to do is a breach of contract made with myself and other city employees to accept lower wages while actively employed for guaranteed healthcare benefits in retirement.

I can not afford a loss of treatment options that are currently keeping me alive, with good mobility. Every specialist I’m using will NOT accept the Map, and will not accept the Medicare payment as payment in full.

It's both shameful and short sighted that Mayor Adams is continuing the efforts to save the City money by transferring seniors out of traditional Medicare and putting us into privatized Medicare Advantage plans whose primary goal is to make a profit, not to provide the best, most extensive health care. I imagine it was thought it would be easy to start an erosion of public health care with Seniors, as we are relatively few in numbers and our concerns over privatization may be easy to ignore by people not yet old enough to be on Medicare. But we are the gateway for the Trojan Horse that’s being allowed in to eventually overtake and privatize our entire health care system. Our concern about this privatization should be the concern of everyone now, before they’re proven to be, if health care privatizers get their way with the help of our public officials!

Privatizing health care for NY City retirees and eventually, no doubt, for all City workers, also places an enormous roadblock in the path of the NY State Health Care Act which seeks to provide affordable health care for all New Yorkers. The health care industry and some public officials are doing their best to stop this from happening. Mayor Adams and New York City should not be helping in those efforts but should rather be on the side of good and affordable health care for everyone in our city and state and hopefully at some point for everyone in the country. Many people agree that there should be “Medicare for All” but that must not be confused with Medicare Advantage – privatized plans that seek to eliminate traditional Medicare and are only sowing confusion by sharing the name…

All this alone should be enough to convince Mayor Adams to side with those of us who oppose this health care privatization take-over. But he, and all of us, also need to know that there are better ways to save the City a lot more money than by taking traditional Medicare away from City retirees. Those options need to be fully explored with health care experts who are not employed by companies but rather are scholars who have studied this issue from a public health and financial perspective. Many of them have already weighed in on this issue although their voices may not have been heard. Now is the time for Mayor Adams to invite them to City Hall where they can show us all better options for providing health care to all New Yorkers than is being offered by the private sector. I believe adopting their ideas could make us all winners in what at the moment seems like an intractable choice between good, reliable, affordable health care and the money to pay for it.

I retired in 1981 with a line of duty injury. I was one of the first women on patrol. I took this dangerous, underpaid job for the benefits and to fulfill my dream of being an officer. My pension is low by today's standards. Having major medical issues I must choose to opt out. By doing so the extreme financial hardship I will face is beyond explanation.
Having lung cancer, heart disease, I cannot chance a managed care program. At 72 years old I am in the position of medicine or coverage.
Mr Mayor please do not advance the fight for this managed care plan, my life depends on it.
Thank you
Veronica

I was a teacher in New Rochelle. I became an atty in the Law department for over three years. I am now retired and not affected by this proposal by the City.

Mr. Mayor, you originally called it « bait and switch » for good reason. The City, with the advice and consent of the unions, is pulling the rug out from underneath its retirees. Medicare Plus simply is NOT better than what most retirees have now.

Ronnie Dane (New York, 2022-03-15)

It is unfair and emorale to force upon retirees a medical plan that is lesser then the health we have now. And to penalize retirees to pay a monthly preminun is wrong
