Lift the ban of selling tobacco in South Africa during lockdown

Comments

#3402

The UK is still selling tobacco and alcohol. Western Cape is allowing the sale of tobacco

Anne Sawyer (Durban, 2020-04-12)

#3403

I'm also a smoker. And it's more stressful not having sigarets in this time. So please allow us to buy sigarets please. Thank you

Lieda Taljaard (Brakpan, 2020-04-12)

#3406

I’m signing this petition to allow us to buy cigarettes, do not worry about alcoholic drinks.
Also to let us draw funds from our retirement annuity as all the other countries allow their people to use funds to cover debt but no not South Africa. We can always catch up on that later and increase the payments but for now we need extra funds and as a lot of people will not get salary Apil and even May.
Let us have access to our funds to cover our debts and not lose all we worked for.
And lift the stop from smokes at this moment Mr Cele is controlling us and not helping at all look around people buy cigarettes on the black market and even alcohol how is he helping it is up to us not him 😬

Annelie Leach (Gauteng, 2020-04-12)

#3409

The rest of the workd does not have a cigarette ban! So why do we?

Stacey Harrison (East London, 2020-04-12)

#3410

Smokes should be sold for goodness sake

Tammy Promnitz (East london, 2020-04-12)

#3411

I think this is very unfair as smoking has nothing to do with the Covid 19

Kellyn Cotton Wolmarans (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-12)

#3414

I'm signing because I have a right to do so!

Bryan Morison (East London, 2020-04-12)

#3418

I am in a family of smokers.

#3432

Smokers have rights too. We obey the lockdow rules but need to be able to still live a normal day to day life.

Liz Backer (Boksburg, 2020-04-12)

Ek teken hierdie petisie omdat ekself n roker is vir die afgelope 47jaar en ek weier om nou op te hou.

Karla Moolman (Kaapstad, 2020-04-12)

#3438

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, wegeners granulomatosis (GPA) 10 years ago. Having been on immuno suppressant medication for many years, I would obviously be at a greater risk of contracting coronavirus. Therefore, I have been in lock down for 4 weeks already. Obviously we all stressed, but the additional stress of not being able to buy cigarettes can possibily trigger my auto immune disease again.

Michelle Weiner (Pietermaritzburg, 2020-04-12)

#3442

I need my ******* smokes ... I'm not a child

Jackie Hattingh (Greymont, 2020-04-12)

#3444

I am a smoker, that does not see the reason for the ban

Wesley Jordaan (East London, 2020-04-12)

#3447

I signing in sympathy with all smokers. They smoke at their homes and do not aggravate people doing this. A lot of smokers is now forced to go cold turkey which causes tempers to flare up unecessarily in cooped-up situation. As opposed to alcohol, this will relieve alott of stress.

Isabel Beyers (Mogale City, 2020-04-12)

#3450

I see no need to be restricted from smoking, this can have any parms of spreading the virus.

Deon Van der Berg (Secunda, 2020-04-12)

#3455

It does more health damage to a smoker to just stop by force. This ban is actually damaging smokers health in a worse way.
Cigarettes should be allowed for purchase to persons buying their groceries at the same time.

Chiara Schultz (East London, 2020-04-12)

#3460

As per petition

Matilda Swart (Richardsbay, 2020-04-13)

#3462

I'm a smoker and being g in lockdown an unable to buy cigarettes is against my right for obe thing and secondly its safer for those in lockdown with me to live with me

Mandi du Plessis (Gauteng, 2020-04-13)

#3465

Stopping smoking should be our choice not forced upon.
People will be more content to sit at home if they are allowed to smoke their sigarette and have a braai rather than driving around in the hope of buying Sigarettes on the Black Market. It will keep people off the roads.

Martie Schutte (Port shepstone, 2020-04-13)

#3467

Cigarettes are not a contributor to domestic abuse. Without our Cigarettes, we constantly argue, which makes lockdown unbearable. Divorce is looming!

Maike Green (Brackenfell, 2020-04-13)

#3469

People are addictive to smoking and drinking some may quit but some will steal and loot and some will die because of 💓 attacks and you just put SA in deeper trouble economy

Martin Gibson (Roodepoort, 2020-04-13)

#3470

Addiction is real.

Pat Sparg (East London, 2020-04-13)

#3471

I am a smoker and enjoy a drink. I live alone and whatever I do during lockdown does not affect anyone else. I feel like we have lost everything!

Helen Steyn (East London, 2020-04-13)

#3472

I'm signing because im a smoker and its the only think to keep me calm. Stores can just limit the amount of people at a time like they do now.

Leonie Kruger (Empangeni, 2020-04-13)

#3473

No reason how it will influance the covid. Loss of income for those selling it!

Deon Du Plessis (Springs, 2020-04-13)

#3474

Loosing business and customers are going to start looting.

Wiliaan Payne (Hartswater, 2020-04-13)

#3475

It is hard to quit in this situation. While I am trying to cut down, there is a lot of stress at the moment and for who knows how much longer.. I don't agree with withdrawal symptoms being an excuse for violence but it can cause irritability and other unwanted reactions and Government could understand this, under the circumstances!

Michelle Singer (Johannesburg, 2020-04-13)

#3476

I’m not even a smoker but this attack on civil liberty is unacceptable. Just like telling us that we cannot buy alcohol.

Rubin Van Niekerk (Johannesburg, 2020-04-13)

#3477

I think this, together with the alcohol ban, is a ridiculous and absurd ban that is personally driven by an individual in government that forces his personal belief down onto the people of South Africa. The very people who pay government salaries!!

Louwrie Coetzer (Brits, 2020-04-13)

#3478

Smokes are essential

Fean Corbett (Capetown, 2020-04-13)

Karen Tzvetanov (Hilton, 2020-04-13)

#3493

I support this project

vijay padayachee (johannesburg, 2020-04-13)

#3494

I dont smoke, but the Sin Tax that we are throwing away by prohibiting the sale of tobacco is in itself a sin. South Africa needs that money.

Norbert Fuhr (Faerie Glenn, 2020-04-13)

#3495

People smoking for many years will be affected, their lungs will go through a detox making them more vulnerable to chest infections!

Vanessa Hvidsten (Cape Town, 2020-04-13)

#3496

I am signing because they need to lift the ban on cigarettes. What about people that have quit drugs and smoke to stay off the drugs, the hard stuff that kills quicker.

Jocelynn Krugel (Uvongo, 2020-04-13)

#3498

i am a smoker and it helps me to cope with my stress

I'm a smoker and need my smokes in this stressful times. I Am not ready or prepared to suddenly stop.

Isabel Koekemoer (Mosselbay, 2020-04-13)

It is delusional to ban smoking thus causing smokers to have an even more stress in an already uncertain and stressful time.

Andrew Green (Cape Town, 2020-04-13)

#3523

I am losing it in my home...pls just lift the ban.

Desiree Vezasie Uys (Durban, 2020-04-13)

Scott Angelos (Randburg, 2020-04-13)

I am a bipolar sufferer, and the mother of an autistic child. Smoking keeps me calm, but of more concern is giving up. I have tried before, and my family has to suffer my anxiety and depression. Please, let us smoke and stay sane.

I need my smokes and to me and other smokers its surely an essential

Sanet Swanepoel (Pretoria, 2020-04-13)

#3546

Im signing because people cant just give up smoking for no valid reason. It's a petty, pathetic ban and has nothing to do with social distancing or the virus

Rosemary Joubert (Greytown, 2020-04-13)

#3548

Im Singh this because there are alot of ppl that are selling them back door and charging R100 a pack . And some are selling alot of fake . Please its not alcohol . Ppl are going crazy buying smokes are are robbing ppl .

Sharon Kay (Kzn, 2020-04-13)

#3552

I believe every person has the right to make their own choice to smoke. In understanding that smoking damages the lungs which we may need to fight should we get infected, we are indoors, in our homes n its our choice to smoke.

Lee Diaz (Durban, 2020-04-13)

#3556

Because all was mentioned above

Sherry Stigling (Ladybrand, 2020-04-13)

#3560

Yes i am addicted to nicoteen, i have been smoking for 48 years and my lungs are still fine, the virus is not inside sigarettes, so why does the government ban the selling off sigarettes?

Cecil Oosthuizen (Pretoria, 2020-04-13)

#3561

I'm a smoker and i think it is totally ridiculous that i will have to resort to alternative sources for cigarettes when my current stocks runs out.

Ursela van Deventer (Port Elizabeth, 2020-04-13)

#3562

I'm a smoker

rochelle pieterse (Somerset east, 2020-04-13)

#3572

This ban makes no sense and should be lifted immediately as it is a violation of our basic human right. Bear in mind that I am not even a smoker but i am totally with the smokers on this. I think the fact that we are the only country doing this speaks volumes - it’s wrong!

Sharon Chalupsky (Johannesburg, 2020-04-13)

#3576

Karin De koker (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-13)

#3577

It is ridiculous to ban the selling of cigarettes at a time like this - we are the only country in the world that has this restriction

Lindi Venter (Cape Town, 2020-04-13)

#3582

Not having access to cigarettes exacerbates the already traumatic effects of being in lockdown. Both physiological and emotional well-being is negatively affected.

Debbie Kriel (Sandton, 2020-04-13)

#3586

The ban is increasing the sale of illegal cigarettes which makes the lockdown pointless with the people buying and selling meeting one another for the sales.
When you can legally buy cigarettes you can get it when you are buying your groceries and not making an extra trip for it.

Inge Stopforth (Middelburg, 2020-04-13)

#3589

I am signing this petition not just because I am a smoker, but I also think of the economic lost due to tax on cigarettes. Smokers that will not be able to smoke WILL make a plan to smoke. Maby stealing? Weed? Black market search? And I definitely think that if smokers can buy their own cigarettes, they will not need a pull from someone else's cigarettes.

Jessica Pelser (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-14)

#3593

My husband is a smoker. If he wants to smoke it doesnt bother me. Keeps him happy!

#3595

Im a smoker its simple man this is our choice d rite noq i can loose my ahit if i dont get one

Dhanelle Nel (Johannesburg, 2020-04-14)

#3596

I am struggeling with my lungs since I have no cigarettes. I get physically sick numerous times because of this. I get drousy. I'm tired and irritated with everything. This is not right. No one should be forced to stop smoking. It should be our choice. We know the virus attacks our lungs but to stop smoking all of a sudden won't make a difference I promise. If anything it is making us ill and more vulnerable to the virus. Thank you

Sian Paddock (Springs, 2020-04-14)

#3597

I am not a criminal....Now I feel like one. This is teaching us how to hustle in the underworld.....Do you think this thrill is good for after lockdown? Would we not miss it? Acquiring things on the downlow? I think this is one way of teaching South Africans how to be criminals. My 2cents.
