my smoking is not part of the lockdown. and i feel like our rights are taken away from us.

claudia els (nelspruit, 2020-04-07)

#208

This is restricting citizens civil liberties and is akin to martial law...the government is abusing the citizens of this country.

I don't smoke but I will always stand up against oppressive regimes that seek to oppress their citizens.

Nicole Barlow (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#213

The taxes from the sale of cigarettes will help the economy.

Tania Smythe (Alberton, 2020-04-07)

Vanessa Amanda Smit (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#230

What does smoking have to do with the virus

Yolandie Van der Merwe (Alberton, 2020-04-07)

#232

I am a smoker and honestly, it was not necessary to ban the purchasing of cigarettes - there are a lot of black market dealers out there who are taking the government's taxes on this item.

Elaine Russell (Kemtpon Park, 2020-04-07)

#235

It's ridiculous to ban smoking at this stage! Pensions were only paid after lockdown! Where do I buy smokes now?

Cynthia Topper (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#236

It’s stupid

Leonard Holmes (Gauteng, 2020-04-07)

#239

Taxes the government is loosing could be used for covid relieve

Sherrill Spinas Brookes (Gonubie, 2020-04-07)

#240

It is useless to stop smoking now. Smokers lungs are already damaged. People are really stressed enough anyway. This stupid policy doesn't help anyone

Morag Geddes (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#246

I am a smoker and it is taking away my constitutional rights

Shane Briel (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

I'm signing this petition because I have a right to choose, in no way does buying smokes lengthen my time spent in a shop.

Lift the ban on smoking

Kelsie Barlow (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#248

Smoking got nothing to do with anything

Heidi Olivier (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#250

It’s totally ridiculous in this day and age, we have choices, this ban will make people be more anxious. Might as well ban chocolate to.

Cheryl Hammond (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#253

I smoke

Lee Preston (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#254

I use them as a coping mechanism. I take antidepressants, and have been a smoker for over 30 years. I don't do stress well!

Heidi Sturgeon (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#255

I am a smoker. It relaxes and calms me when i need.

Tara Allan (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#258

It is frustrating. At the time of the lockdown we did not have money to buy sigarettes as we only pay at the end of the month.

Kobus Visagie (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#260

I'm signing because I'm a smoker and ur cause anxiety amongst the smoker which is not good during lockdown.

Natasha Van Zyl (Gauteng, 2020-04-07)

#262

Just lift the ban. All smokers are in need and it is actually causing more people to be out and about innsearch of smokes instead of simply going to nearest shop and buying enough. Even if it has to be buy more than enough to last 5 days it is fine

Donovan Arnot (Kempton Park, 2020-04-07)

#266

I need smokes trying to stop in lockdown is to hard with all the stess

Jacob Maleka (Joburg, 2020-04-07)

#272

Julie Rheeder (Gauteng, 2020-04-07)

#284

I’m a smoker

Lee Derbyshire (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#285

I think it is rediculous to ban sales of sigarettes effectively forcing me to stop smoking. I am an essential worker that have been working almost 24/7 assisting during this lockdown, most of the time under severe circumstances and pressure/stress. This lockdiwn is supposedly not to be seen as punitive yet it certainly feels like it is just that PUNITIVE AND DICTORIAL/DRACONIAN

Hein van Staden (Benoni, 2020-04-07)

#286

We need smokes and I don't see what it has to do with this virus

Jolene Pawson (Gauteng, 2020-04-07)

#287

I agree with the author. Blackmarket is booming right now. Taxes lost to government.

Annette Street (Kempton Park, 2020-04-07)

#291

Pls lift the ban

Leanne Leanne (Gauteng, 2020-04-07)

#292

I am a smoker. I have been smoking since the age of 13 and I am turning 42 this year. All this years there was no problems with my smoking. Stoppimg me from smoking now will not do anything to my health, but will have a huge impact on my stress levels.

Jan Ungerer (Western Cape, 2020-04-07)

#295

IM also a smoker and smoking is like a drug if yotj cant smoke you get agresive and if i must pay R100 for a packet i will pay for it but i will smoke it makes me calm and keep me awake and even i will do anything thing to get smokes no matter what it cost me Well the blackmarket makes money and the goverment loose money THERE ARE ALWAYS A PLAN AND I WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY

Ivan Coxen (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#298

There are so few pleasures left, don't add withdrawals to the challenges. I smoke in my garden, I don't bother anybody.

Petra Spies (Germiston, 2020-04-07)

#300

After this the black market may be the way to go

Lynda Milligan (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#303

I smoke myself for 14 years now and its the only thing that calms me.

Lucinda Gouws (Pretoria, 2020-04-07)

#306

I'm not a smoker, but I was married to one. Not having cigarettes resulted in family abuse! Do you realize that you as government encourages abuse by taking cigarettes away? Now the black market will thrive and leave even less money for essential things like food!

Mara Marx (Amanzimtoti, 2020-04-07)

#307

I'm a smoker

Rene Linington (Ekurhuleni, 2020-04-07)

#308

Its my only stress relief during this time. We all need a way to stay calm during this time and this will only add to peoples anxiety.

Brittany Cannel (Port elizabeth, 2020-04-07)

#310

I'm a smoker and smoking is my stress reliever

Cisca Van Staden (Benoni, 2020-04-07)

#311

I don't think it's fair, smoking tobacco has never caused gatherings nor does it imapair thinking or cause bizarre behaviour

Alta Leach (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#312

You can rape and murder someone but please do not smoke. 🚭🤬

Natasha Farrow (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#313

By prohibiting the use and sale of cigarettes we are going to be causing a bigger burden on our Health care system and encouraging the spread of covid-19 as people share cigarettes

Phillip Höll III (Port Elizabeth, 2020-04-07)

#318

I want to buy cigarettes legally!!!!

Jeneane Williams (Pretoria, 2020-04-07)

#332

I need to smoke!!

Marno Debruin (Brakpan, 2020-04-07)

#339

I think it is unfair to not allow people to purchase cigarettes. Many people only got paid after lockdown had started and could not buy. Others like myself listened to the call of no panic buying and now have no cigarettes. You are asked to stay in your house alone and then punished by not being able to smoke. Unfair and uncalled for

Kim Callant (Germiston, 2020-04-07)

#342

I'm a smoker and I believe it is not fair and against my rights as a South African

Johan van Tonder (Witbank, 2020-04-07)

I'm signing this because I'm a smoker as well and i agree with this

Etienne Opperman (Sasolburg, 2020-04-07)

#361

Because it's one's right to smoke or not.

Manny Martins (Gauteng, 2020-04-07)

#362

I'm participating in this petition due to the fact that cigarettes isn't the cause of Covid-19. Yes smoking cigarettes does less your chances of healing should you have Covid-19, but if you are old enough to buy cigarettes over the counter then surely you are old enough to decide for yourself if you want to smoke during lock-down or not.

Leave the decision to the citizens of South Africa.

Andre Auret (Boksburg, 2020-04-07)

#366

I think the goverment is unfair to ban cigarettes they had time to stock up nobody knew they going to ban cigarettes so what about us who is depending on it each day!

Johan van Loggerenberg (Kei mouth, 2020-04-07)

#372

It is my coping mechanism.

Natalie Wheeler (Pretoria, 2020-04-07)

#375

I am signing this because the ban on cigarettes is absolutely ludicrous. Most people (like myself) will soon run out of cigarettes which will be very traumatic for me (and I am sure for other people for their own reasons) as I already suffer from major depressive disorder and anxiety. This should still be seen as an essential necessity.
The government can't afford to loose billions in taxes due to this ridiculous infringement, which will cause for people to try and obtain it illegally. We are on lockdown in our own houses. I don't see the problem with that.
Also most smokers get deadly I'll when quitting cold Turkey, infact many of them then start getting terrible chest infections. Which in the time of COVID19 is absolutely unacceptable and will also place more on the already decapitated health system

Belinda Deetlefs (Johannesburg, 2020-04-07)

#377

I don't think it is necessary for them to ban cigarette sales.

Carol Booyse (Edenvale, 2020-04-07)

#380

I'm signing because I am a smoker and I am worried about my family when my withdrawals kick in!

Samantha Robson (Glenvista, 2020-04-07)

#387

Lorinda Prinsloo (Pretoria, 2020-04-07)

#390

I am a smoker. Have been smoking for over 30 years. My doctor has informed me that my body won't be able to handle stopping smoking abruptly. Its my right to decide if I want to smoke or not.

Sandra Do Couto (PRIMROSE, 2020-04-07)
