The proposal is in conflict with the Governments objective for this part of the West Coast and is in conflict with the Buller District Councils broader environmental objectives. Using the selected roads will create safety hazards and environmental damage and amenity degradation and I am bitterly opposed to Chinas use of these materials which expands its military capability and danger to Pacific countries and the world in general.

My wife and I and our three young children will be directly affected by proposed trucking routes that propose to drive right past our property. The road is used by our children to walk along to catch the school bus. The Nine mile/Tauranga bay area is one of natural beauty used and frequented by locals, visitors, surfers, cyclists and runners alike all whose experience and at times safety will be affected by the proposed mining operation and subsequent trucking movements.
The proposed operation is also in complete conflict with the kawatari cycle trail who require to safely guide cyclists through this beautiful part of NZ. To a large degree these will be visitors to our area and the trails success and positive reflection on our district is built on showcasing our natural beauty not exposing these visitors to an industrial operation.

For years we have been promotting the beauty of this region as a tourist attraction both nationally and internationally. This mining proposally is a complete crontradiction that flys in the face of what has been achieved to date.
To suggest that the impact of this mining proposal will be only minor is absolute rubbish. This mining proposal will hhave a major negative impact on the region and must be publicly notified.
In the twenty plus years I have lived in this region I have noticed on several occasions that both our district and regional councils have suggested that a proposal will have only minor impact and need not be publicly notified, only to have that attitude tipped upside down by concerned residents. Please stop trying to play god. Listen to your constituents and allow them a voice through the proper channels of a publicly notified resource consent process.

As a young family who spends a lot of our free time here, we are concerned for the safety implications, and most importantly the damage to the environment. This type of excavation will reshape the face of the land, and risk biodiversity. Furthermore, China is a large country with plenty of power, influence and resources. The UN estimates that 4.1 billion tons of cement is produced every year, driven primarily by China, which constitutes 58% of today's sand-fueled construction boom. As regular users of a dwelling at Okari Road for holidays, rest and recreation we object to the proposed development by Westland Mineral Sands as it will cause significant disturbance and the ruination of this amazing pristine location.
Imagine what a 50 tonne truck every half hour day and night would sound like for the next 10 years and then there is the unknown health risks created by the disturbance of the deadly toxins in the sand on people, farm animals and wildlife.
