I am very upset about what happened on an public transport, the bus driver ignored the safety of an passenger who got attacked ruthlessly by someone bringing dangerous weapon onto the bus. And the driver’s reaction throughout the incident is not acceptable, he did not ring police or any action to help the victim.Lingjie Xu (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

新西兰的治安管理越来越糟糕透了,已经让我们感到危险了,我的车放在路边都被砸了,司机的冷漠让新西兰这个国家的安全问题暴露出来了。支持受害者的合理要求。shengjie xu (奥克兰, 2024-07-03)

I support this cause because I have a son who is as old as Jason. I can empathize with him and his parents during this time. It's my wish that every teenager in Auckland and other New Zealand cities has a safe environment. I'm convinced that nobody wants to witness such events occurring in our country.Lei Wang (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

Violence against children will never be tolerated in any country! And the attitude of other passengers on the bus was so disappointing! What would they do if their own children were treated like this! The driver's indifference was also very shameless! New Zealand needs more Chinese people to unite and protect our children!Flora sun (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

Serious safety concerns and race-specific personal injuries are rampant. This has had a very bad impact on New Zealand's international image. I have tried my best to keep my words in check. The security in this country is terrible!!!Eric Li (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

It is everyone's fundamental right to feel safe in the public transport. If the government is unable to provide such basic protection, the government is not doing thing for the vulnerable ones.

So sad to see what happened and how hopeless this little boy might feel. We need support when we were needing help so desperately. It’s sad to hear how the driver responded to this situation and did nothing to secure the safety of the passengers. We need a safer place to live in!Lulu Wei (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

It is not acceptable for things like this happen in New Zealand. It is not acceptable for driver not taking actions and open the door to let the criminal run away.
It is not acceptable for Auckland Transport not making apologies and not take responsibility until now.
This is not the New Zealand we would ever want to see become.

To begin with, people (certain people) taking free rides are getting out of hands. AT or the government needs to stop this sort of behaviour to treat everyone equal. Why do honest people need to pay while some “entitled” others can take advantage of our public transport? Because AT/the government allows? Because these people have privilege?Secondly, the drivers behaviour does need explanations. Did he open the door out of fear for himself and the rest of the passengers? He did it according to AT/Howick & Eastern Bus procedures? What’s his reasons for not calling the police or the ambulance in the first instance? Isn’t this common sense for situations like this? Did he have the necessary trainings? What was he thinking wiping the blood off the floor?? It’s unbelievable!
Last but not the least, maybe it is time to look at introducing rules around taking items that can obviously be used as weapons onto the bus. Not saying it shouldn’t be allowed but maybe kept at the front and only to retrieve when the owner gets off the bus. It’s not easy but it’s a start.

I am signing this because there is absolutely no place for racism in Aotearoa. Everyone should be treated equally and respectfully regardless of ethnicities. Aotearoa New Zealand is a place where we call home, and I and many others would like to feel safe and secured in our home. This brutal attack on the teenager by this racist lady should not be tolerated and the attacker must pay for her consequences. This is not an isolated incident and the hate crimes are on the rise. This incident should ring a bell to all Kiwis and should remind us what our Kiwi values are about: Inclusiveness, Diversity, Together for better and Prosperity. I am a proud Chinese Kiwi and I support the creation of laws that forbid dangerous weapons to be brought onto public transport. It is also very disappointing to see inaction of the Auckland Transport and I would also like to call for further investigations on this racist brutal attack.yang chen (Auckland, 2024-07-03)
