Retirees count and we vote in all elections!

No sick or elderly person deserves to spend their scarce time and energy fighting for needed, standard medical care, just to boost the profits of a cruel insurance company that is responding to financial incentives to deny needed medical care. The Medicare Advantage business and profit models, which reward denying medical care and punish providing it, are inhuman. In contrast, traditional Medicare plus comprehensive Medigap pay providers, rather than penalizing them financially and time-wise, for providing standard, needed medical care.

I am a NYC government retiree and I object to what the City has been attempting to do to our health care.

I am a retired teacher (began teaching in 1970); the new health plan will negatively change the benefits that I currently receive with my GHI-CBP health plan which were promised when I retired in 2006

When I/we first started working for the City in 1968 we knew you would never get rich, but good health benefits and pension were guaranteed. Now, when we are old and need these benefits they are trying to break that guarantee. I think they actuaries didn't anticipate us living so long. Therefore, they can CULL the retirees population by giving us inferior health care and instituting the $15 or more, co-payments, which many retirees cannot afford at all. People who are in their 80's and 90's have survived in large part due to the good medical care. Now, the City seeks to throw them under the bus. Under our current plan, we can choose any hospital or medical provider who/which accepts MEDICARE. Under the new plan, already some providers such as Sloane Kettering and the Hospital for Special Surgery have essentially eliminated us saying that they do so only on a case by case basis after evaluation.
Also, it is not known if the amount of money paid to the general doctors and specialists, labs, etc. is equal to what they are receiving now under Medicare and, therefore, they may drop out of the pool of doctors "accepting" to work with this new plan. We also don't know, let's say, how long a doctor will have to wait for his/her reimbursement or pay. Supposing it is 6 months or whatever. Would you still accept the possibly lower reimbursement? We will probably be see a declining number and quality of medical providers. This is essentially HIGHWAY ROBBERY!
Additionally, they want to use the supposed savings to pay wage increases for (union and non-union) CURRENT employees, including the directors and other big shots. What they don't realize, to quote Stuart Liebowitz, is that: "they are Retirees In Training." That means that in due course, they too will be retirees and they are biting their noses to spite their faces!
Sincerely,
Ms. Merritt Gelfand Claude

Preserve my health care benefits as a retiree and WTC 9/11 survivor. My health care is essential

Mark Steffens (Fort Lauderdale, 2022-03-23)

#5633

I did not work 32 years for the city to have my healthcare changed against my will. It is unfair to pay to stay in a program I was promised in 1981.

NYC needs to stop it's UNION inspired betrayal of RETIREES!

Jim Ryan (Kew Gardens, 2022-03-23)

The plan hasn't been totally reviewed, and it is shortsighted for many. The Senior Care cost is outrageous and we need to maintain current without change.

l retired knowing that l was going to be taking care of in my senior years. I like my fellow retirees didn’t take full pay raises to insure we would have the health care that the City of New York promised in righting.
Please help NYC keep it’s word.

Geraldine OBrien (Royal Palm Beach, 2022-03-23)

#5640

Because the city of NY must honored commitment with NYC retirees as public servants since the moment we were hired. Any changes to the agreement must include retirees at the table. In this Medicare disadvantage we as retirees union members were not consulted.

It is a disgrace that anyone could even fathom removing benefits that people worked at least 25 years to earn and are counting on. If you want to change things for people coming in now, that’s different. But in -service people and retirees should not have to deal with a bait and switch on crucial healthcare. We chose a profession where we get paid significantly less than others with master’s degrees- because the benefits were a trade off. How can you do this to people in good conscience?

Christine Cortes (Staten Island, 2022-03-23)

#5659

NYC RETIREES Do not need any changes in their Current Health Care plan. Medicare is fine as is.
There should be no healthcare givebacks. We are too old to deal with any more health increases!

I Do not want to give up the medical insurance coverage that was promised to me when I joined the New York City Fire Dept. Why do retirees have to be the scapegoats for city's shortfall?

I’m 62 and my husband and I need our medical benefits that were promised. I put 33 years, took very little sick days and vacation. Never missed days, give me what you guys promised.

I am signing this because my husband worked for NYC Sanitation and is retired and we want to keep our medical insurance to stay the same. We want what was promised to the retirees with no changes.

#5750

I want the medical plans that have served City of New York retirees to continue as opposed to the recent proposed Medicare Advantage Plus which very inadequately and unfairly meets the needs of retirees who have served the city for many years. It is a distrustful and dismissive plan which does not recognize the individual medical needs of the aging retiree population....

I want to keep my current Health
Care Plan. The one that I was promised at retirement. I am not in favor of the City's MAP plan. It is inferior to the Healthcare I have now and a breach of the promise I was given during 30+ years of service to the City.
