There is no other suitable 50m pool in Pretoria to host primary and high school league galas, regional, national and international competitions.Every single competitive swimmer and their family in Pretoria knows Hillcrest, and it would be a huge embarrassment for the current municipality to see it go to ruin and close under your watch, especially after so many decades of successful management of the facility.
I have swum there since the early 1980's, and have never seen the pool in such a disgraceful state as the last 10 years, despite the kind voluntary financial and physical assistance of the Friends of Hillcrest, without which one can only imagine the worse state it would have been in.
The entire aquatic community in Tshwane relies on this pool for either training, coaching, recreation, competitions, The Pro Swim Shop, NTS offices, life-saving, artistic swimming, underwater hockey, waterpolo, annual Navy diver recruiting, paramedic training and assessments, air cabin crew training and assessments, SAPS training, Swim SA coaching courses and mass participation events, masters swimming, cold and open water training, triathlon training, biathlon training and competitions...etc. That's a lot of people who will be extremely disillusioned with the council if Hillcrest closes, myself included!
