Move the New England Road Pietermaritzburg Landfill!!

Comments

#602

We stayed in Richards bay for 18 years and what a clean place, municipality is proud of their town.

We moved to Pietermaritzburg in April 2015 and my oldest son at the time 12 years was diagnosed with cancer in December 2015. He just completed his chemo treatment after nearly 4 years.

I am highly disgusted with this town, extremely dirty and got no proud of their town. This is the Capital????...... not sure about that

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#605

I am signing because I would not like a situation which endangers the health of humans, including the health of Msunduzi Municipality and their families.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#606

The smog coming from the dump is unacceptalble. The toxic fumes we as Pmb residents are breathing in, particularly those who live and go to school near the dump is of serious concern. The long term effects could be catastrophic. For schools to be closed because of the danger is ridiculous. It has got to stop!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#607

It is unacceptable

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#610

I am a teacher at one of the schools in close proximity and we had to close again yesterday. This is the 3rd fire this year!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#611

As a nurse in this city i know that there is a very very high incidence of people suffering with respiratory issues , especially the children. This is because PMB lies in a dip surrounded by mountains and now with the dump burning so often it turns the dip into a toxic soup bowl that people are forced to breath . A bit like a gas chamber.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#612

I am a pensioner who does not have a lung problem but was affected by the smoke emissions over the past weekend.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#613

The continuous burning of the landfill is making me ill on a continuous basis. It also effects my family members who live with me and who suffer with Asthma

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#614

This dump has been a problem for years and must be moved and managed according to the rules for a green dumpsite

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#615

It’s time the dump is moved, it is way over capacity and the constant burning is causing serious health problems

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#616

The ANC led Msunduzi Municipality are failing dismally in maintaining a clean and healthy in our city, and they need to stop making excuses for their own failures and be held accountable for the poor state of this city in general and the burning New England Road landfill dump.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#617

I live on hesketh drive and am tired of this

(Pietermaritzbug, 2019-10-08)

#620

I'm signing this petition for the landfill site in Pietermaritzburg to be moved.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#625

My health is at risk!!!!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#626

The fumes generated by these ongoing fires is extremely dangerous to our health

(Pietermaritzbug, 2019-10-08)

#629

My children are breathing in this at school - atrocious

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#630

I live a stone throw away from the dump and sick if this nonsense. Something must be done to rectify this problem.. moving it is the only option

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#631

My daughter is at school near the site and my husband has his office near the site. The fumes are toxic and affect both my daughter and husband , not to mention all the other learners at nearby schools and businesses .

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#634

The landfill site is becoming a health hazard for all residents. We must start a recycling program to recycle all our waste

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#635

This is a serious concern as it is so close to residential areas and not to mention the schools that are being affected when these fires happen and it's happening far too frequently now

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#640

The smoke and toxic fumes effecting our city. Something needs to happen to change the control and the site

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#642

It is a hazardous to our children's health and ours and it's a danger to society

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#643

It's way beyond the sell by date. The landfill site has been on the cards to be moved for 15 years or more. It's now time to make the move once and for all. Time the powers that be did something positive for the community for a change.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#644

The landfill represents a significant risk to the well-being of many children in the area.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#645

It's a health hazard. Alongside the N3 highway co2 gases you are killing us residents in area such as cold Scottsville.
Also if you try to assist by dumping foliage etc at the dump site you are attacked by hoards of youth trying to seek out a living. Absolutely no control at the site.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#646

I stay in hayfields and my sons health is at risk as well as my husband who suffers from asthma...

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#653

I'm signing because I live in Hayfields and am concerned about the health of my kids and my health.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#656

The current landfill is too close to the pmb urban area and is situated on a river. It should have been closed years ago

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#658

This affects my children's school my home as well as my work, something needs to be done!!!

(pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#664

Please, just move the land fill. You slowly killing us!!!

(PIETERMARITZBURG, 2019-10-08)

#666

I want PMB to return to the beautiful place it was, and not the risky polluted pit it's becoming. Let's clean up so that our kids will be proud of their town one day

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#667

The landfill site is one of the main contributors to the air pollution levels in Pietermaritzburg.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#668

The landfill has past its expiry date

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#671

My kids go to school across the road from the dump

(Pietermaritzburgfashionable, 2019-10-08)

#672

This is absolutley unacceptable!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#676

Because I believe that no one should be breathing in toxic, potentially life threatening substances. I moved out of Scottsville to escape this but still teach in the one of the schools nearby.

(Howick, 2019-10-08)

#677

Move the PMB landfill site.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#694

I spent many years in PMB and am shocked as to how the City has deteriorated , especially over the last 10 years

(Cape Town, 2019-10-08)

#695

The landfill needs to be moved it is a health hazard to humans and animals

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#696

I'm signing because my son is a boarder at SCC . I chose this school because of its location in beautiful PMB. Please help stop this madness and restore the city to it's glory

(Howick, 2019-10-08)

#697

I have cystic fibrosis and am currently only 14% lung function living just of Hesketh drive and this toxic air is terrible for my health as I cannot breath in this stench I have been sitting for 2 days with double oxygen and my stats are still in the low 80’s

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#698

It is unacceptable that the site is within the city and run by incompetant people

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#699

live close to the landfill and every couple months it burning bad chemicals

(Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, 2019-10-08)

#700

I’m signing this petition because my daughter goes to St. John’s DSG and my sons to Maritzburg College and they are being adversely affected during some of the most important years of their lives. I also lived for many years in the Scottsville and Hayfields areas and though there were smelly days we never had this level of toxic air being generated by the dump. There are effective ways to manage such a site which worked for years.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#705

Because we are sick and tired of these toxic fires effecting our health !!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#713

Absolutely disgusting health hazard for our city and immediate schools in the vicinity.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#717

Poor management of this dump, resulting in regular fires which are POISONING us! This is completely unacceptable!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#718

I'm signing because I am gatvol of the dump ruining our beautiful clean air.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#721

This landfill site was due to be relocated about 20 years ago
Being so close to a residential area is both unhygienic and dangerous to the environment.
The landfill is also adjacent to a water course and leaches into it

(Pieteraritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#722

I have lots of friends and family that live in Pietermaritzburg close to this landfill. South Africa needs to take a stand against pollution. We are killing our beautiful country!

(Centuriom, 2019-10-08)

#723

Health reasons and dropping property values

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#724

I am signing as I believe the Msunduzi Municipality is not capacitated to run such a facility, the site is mismanaged and not managed in line with the requisite guidelines which leads to health and environmental risk to the greater Msunduzi residents.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#725

I'm signing because I believe the residents, school children, workers all deserve to live, learn & work in a clean air environment. The dump is hazardous to all concerned & should be managed better as well as moved to a very distant location

(Baynesfield, 2019-10-08)

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

The health of our community is at risk owing to the mismanagement and location of the present dump site

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#729

Citizens are being poisoned and this is criminal!!!! Enough is enough!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#731

My daughter is at school there and is constantly getting sick.

(Harrismith, 2019-10-08)

#732

The dump needs to be moved far away from residential areas. It is a hazard - both a health hazard and security hazard.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#733

It a huge health risk and damage to the ozone layer

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#734

Concerned about my environment! And the safety of our children!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#738

I'm signing this because it's irresponsible of the municipality to have a landfill site so close to residential areas. Especially since it doesn't seem to be managed properly.

(Nottingham Road, 2019-10-08)

#739

I am signing this petition due to the fact that I live in Hayfields and whenever the dump is burnt both myself and my son suffer as we are asthmatic. The burn on the 6th of October 2019 was the worst and has caused me to get sick. I am against the landfill being where it is.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#740

This site is an absolute health hazard.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#741

Health issues
Pollution

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#742

Our landfill site has been burning for 3 days and we are choking on the toxic fumes.
It needs to be moved out of the city, and the municipality needs to start managing this city responsibly.

(pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#743

I want my municipality to sort this out NOW

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#746

Its a health hazard

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#747

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#748

Move the dump

(Pietermariztburg, 2019-10-08)

#750

It’s a health hazard particularly for our children who are at school in the city!

(Nottingham Road, 2019-10-08)

#752

Its a real health hazard. The dump is also in the vicinity of residential areas, schools, universities and businesses. Not forgetting our local animal shelters.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#756

The burning rubbish dumps badly affect people's health, economy, education and property values.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

My son goes to St Charles College and it is a health hazard

(Port Shepstone, 2019-10-08)

#758

Move the dump!!!

(Pietermartizburg, 2019-10-08)

#760

Health issues

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#761

I strongly suppor the attempts to urge the Pietermaritzburg Municipality to give the issues at the New England landfill site the attention they need. Regular fires are hazardous to all residents of our Capital City.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#766

The persistent levels of fires aggravated by the putrid pungent sulphuric fumes makes breathing difficult. Promises of relocation for the past 10 to 15 years have not materialised

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#768

It's toxic

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#770

I worked in Scottsville for 9years & was horrified that a landfill site was so near schools & residential areas! Especially when it was burning! One could not breathe!

(London, 2019-10-08)

#771

My son attends St Charles College which is in the proximity of the landfill.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#772

We cant handle the burning anymore. Its burnt way to many times and our health is at risk.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#773

This is a major health hazard for all residents of the city. The problem is not unique to PMB. Govt / municipalities countrywide need to up their game in controlling / managing waste sites.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#774

I'm signing because the dump site is an absolute health hazard for the residents of PMB

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#778

Its polluting the air for the residents and school goers!

(Bergville, 2019-10-08)

A dump in the midst of a residential area is ridiculous.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#781

My children go to school in pmb and it’s not safe to be breathing these fumes

(Durban, 2019-10-08)

#785

This DUMP has been poorly managed for a very long time. The city has grown around it since the early 1960s. For health reasons it needs to be shut down and a new dump developed in a less destructive area.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#786

There has been an ongoing problem with this landfill in a residential area, which compromises the health of everyone affected by the toxic emmisions. It is now not only in the immediate areas but has spread throughout Maritzburg and beyond. Disgraceful!!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#788

This is effecting my kids at school at PMB

(PIetermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#789

I am signing this as the health risks are very concerning and there are so many schools near the dump.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#790

There is shocking mismanagement of the landfill and at the current location it is endangering our public's health.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#791

I dont want to die of a pollution-induced illness!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#794

This dump is toxic and badly managed and far too close to residential areas. The municipality has known this for years and done nothing about it. PLEASE MOVE THE DUMP ASAP.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#796

My son is at boarding school in pietermaritzburg and do not want him exposed to this pollution.

(Ballito, Dolphin Coast, South Africa, 2019-10-08)
