She was totally wrong and inappropriate in what she expressed towards Officer Paul E. Bryant.

Shirley O’Neal (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

Someone with racist attitudes (as evidenced by verbalizing such while holding office)should not be allowed to be a representative for an entire population.

Kathleen Hodges (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

She does not deserve to be on council after the racial remarks that were made to a city police officer.

Denise Hodge (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#615

Her blatant show of racism and disrespect for the law it’s not something we want in our elected officials

Wayne Rogers (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#618

She is racist and a bigot. She should not hold a public position.

Mark Cooley (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#619

This was racist on her part. The policeman was only doing his job.He was not harassing her and she had already been given warnings. She works for the people and should not be acting in this manner.

Carolyn Isgett (Rock Hill, 2020-07-23)

#622

Racism has no place in government. And her remarks to police officer were racist and not the behavior our public officials should show.

RON Spears (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#623

She is racist!! Darlington needs someone that is for all people..

Judy Caulder (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#624

Sherri Johnson (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

Marths Byrd (Darlington SC, 2020-07-23)

#632

Because she is very racist and should not be a public figure being racist

Sharon Catoe (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#640

I'm signing this petition because all persons representing the public interests should be held to high standards. People that choose to continue playing "the victim" yet call themselves public servants are cohercing and deceiving all of us. Placing their beliefs and personal interests above the public good should NEVER be allowed. This person should have put her brain in gear before running her mouth. Governor McMaster, take a stand and remove her from office. Protect all of our South Carolina communities from racism in all its forms.

Stephen Ruley (Myrtle Beach, 2020-07-23)

#646

We should respect our law enforcement officers doing their job. This officer did nothing wrong and this council woman should be ashamed for speaking to him in such a hateful manner. She should be removed!!!

Cathy Ray (Mullins, 2020-07-23)

#648

Racism is something that should be eradicated from this world.

In this current climate I ask that Sheila Baccus be removed from her position as Council woman Darlington City. Her actions and words especially in the current climate were unnecessary and abusive. This is not how race relations are fixed.

She is a disgrace to the City and to the position she holds.

Andrea Knapp (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#649

I think she is racist!!

Julian Woodle (Florence, 2020-07-23)

#651

She needs to be held accountable

Roger Stamey (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#653

What she said to the police is not acceptable

J L (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#654

She needs to be removed for her racism reply! The officer was doing his job and what she said was uncalled for.

Dawn Stokes (Lamar, 2020-07-23)

#655

Get this obviously racist council member off the city council!

Gwendolyn Smith (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#660

I am signing this petition because racially derogatory statements aimed at anyone is unacceptable and a person that is holding an official position to promote the well being of all citizens and to promote the betterment of a community should not be allowed to continue to spread and advocate just hateful racism. Change needs to happen now to make our world a better place. Justice needs to be served consistently across the board everytime no matter the ethnicity or gender. This type of behavior should not be tolerated by an elected official or a paid employee. Swift immediate action needs to be served everytime something like this happens to stop any tolerance of racism.

Amy Freeman (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#661

this is extremely racist. people are trying to destroy America all across this great nation of ours & for her to bring this type of behavior to our neck of the woods is uncalled for. Take that drama somewhere else besides in South Carolina. it's 2020, not 1860. If we let her stay in office, what kind of example are we setting for our youth? She showed her true colors, now show her the door. If a white man would have said something derogatory towards her, his life would be ruined. If the shoe fits.

Dan Honney (Florence, 2020-07-23)

#664

Everyone is equal under the Law and if she made these comments then she should be removed.

Randall Gooding (Bishopville, 2020-07-23)

#665

It is unacceptable for any government official to act in the manner in which she did. We will no longer allow hateful people to stay in office at any level.

James Bishop (Moncks Corner, 2020-07-23)

#666

No council should have anyone willing to make racist comments to anyone for any reason

Eryn Mathis (Moss Point, 2020-07-23)

#667

Racism is wrong no matter who you are. When you are a public servant you should not be biased because you serve all races.

Jenny Howle (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#670

She is in the wrong . Another official who thinks they are above the law. Shameful

Frances Williams (Florence, 2020-07-23)

#671

This woman is part of the problem not the solution. She is not entitled because she is a council "person" nor because she is black to speak in the manner she chose. She was not provoked to her attitude. People like this are why race is still any issue. Law enforcement was racially attacked in this situation and Baccus does not represent Darlington or the people of Darlington in a racially positive light. She is a pothole in the road to better places.

Bob Donaldson (Florence, 2020-07-23)

#672

There should not be this kind of behavior in this position! They are pillars of the community and should be making an example of how the people should act and care for their town and people! This is disgraceful!

Sandra Moody (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#673

racist remarks and if show was on other foot....oh boy!

cynthia k (darlington, 2020-07-23)

#675

She has a blatant disrespect and attitude. Should not be serving the public with that quality. You must remain free of racism in your heart. How disgusting she behaved to a law enforcement officer.

Teresa Reed (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#677

She is racist! If it was a white lady doing this to a black officer, she would have be fired before the sun come up

Damon Kirkland (Bishopville, 2020-07-23)

#678

This racist woman should not be able to hold any public office

Leslie Hendrix (Lamar, 2020-07-23)

#679

Racism at every level needs to be abolished.

Sarah Rowland (Knoxville, 2020-07-23)

#682

Its completely WRONG for anyone to use racist words towards anyone. She's wrong for what she said!! Do something about it other than a slap on the wrist.

Randy Garris (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#688

If you go back and look to see what was posted by employee of Darlington County and all these people tried to make her post look racial and she lost her job but it never said anything like Shelia Baccus said and if this doesn't stop and she keeps her position it just opens the door for others to continue , maybe she can be demoted to a less position! Very concern Darlington resident

Becky Allen (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#690

She’s needs to be removed from office and held accountable for her actions.

Pam Amerson (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#691

Because racism is a 2 way street! What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong no matter what your skin color is!!!! And she was in the wrong!!!

Bridget Kirkland (Bishopville, 2020-07-23)

#692

What she did was racist and uncalled for. Her abuse of power was wrong and if she thinks this was she does not have the right to sit on the board of of my hometown

Sara Warren (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

David Shamlin (Pamplico, 2020-07-23)

#699

she is a racist

Jackie Garrett (Summerville, 2020-07-23)

#703

You cannot correct injustice when you are part of the problem. A person of this position and power should never be able to keep their position after making these types of remarks no matter what the race… If everyone just turned their palms face up they would realize our color is all the same so these radicals and their ideas do not need to be publicized or should they hold a position where They deal with public. Maybe she’s more attuned to being a stay at home mom.

Lee MacLeod (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#704

She made a racial statement. This is not acceptable.

Virginia Jackson (Florence sc, 2020-07-23)

#705

In her position she should have been more professional. It was a very racist comment.

Mary Lynn LANGLEY (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#706

Because the officer was in the right and the Council Lady was in the wrong

Michelle Wilson (Society Hill, 2020-07-23)

#708

She has crossed the line with the racial slurs

Julian Gaskins (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#710

There is no room for any kind of racism.

Krissy Haynie (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#712

Racism should not be tolerated in any form, from anyone, let alone an elected official that is supposed to represent all citizens!

Vickie Blackmon (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

Eric Grooms (Lexington, 2020-07-23)

#724

She is not above the law, no one is. She was rude to a police officer.

Janice Nolan (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)

#726

Dear Governor McMaster
The council women Shelia Baccus needs to be removed from office asap.If the tables were turned and a white council member did this towards a black officer the white council member would have been fired on the spot.
With Shelia Baccus comments toward officer Paul Bryant just shows you what type person Shelia Baccus really is.So please Governor MacMaster do the right thing and remove her from office.

Mike Vann (Dillon South Carolina, 2020-07-23)

She needs to learn the significance of equality in America which comes through building respectful character, and developing self determination which is the pathway to life, liberty, prosperity, and the pursuit of happiness described in the Constitution of the United States of America which is available to every American citizen.

David Curry (Hartsville, SC, 2020-07-23)

#742

I stand against racial prejudice and discrimination on all fronts. I also stand and support law enforcement and another person...just like me..."just doing their job". This is unacceptable on too many levels and should NOT be tolerated.

Lisa Felice (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#744

I’m a Darlington native and my hometown does not need racist running it

Dennis Ashby (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#750

She is caught up in racism, no longer can do her job for the darlington people.

Dennis Jenkins (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

#755

This is despicable behavior in a time when our elected officials should be setting the best examples

Hubert Setzler (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#756

I live in Darlington County but I work in Darlington city at Genesis HealthCare. I don’t think that anyone who uses any type of racial slur Or comment should represent or speak on behalf of any one especially as a council person! Please remove Her as soon as possible!

Cynthia Avin (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

I want this kind of behavior to be held accountable to the people of Darlington of whom she is SUPPOSE to represent.

Polly Hubbard (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#761

What she did was wrong and racist!!!!

Jennifer Smith-Griggs (Hartsville, 2020-07-24)

#763

Because it's not ok the way she handled herself and then to make it a racial issue is wrong. She should not be in that position. There are better people too fill it.

Chasity Tyner (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#764

Anybody working in state county or city offices should know better than saying any kind of racial comments.

Tasha Freeman (Hartsville, 2020-07-24)

#768

She, in my opinion, did the same thing that white people get accused of doing all the time. These people usually are fired from their jobs so it's only fair that she should be fired from hers. There cannot be a double standard in this case. She is there as a public servant and should conduct herself as such.

Kathy Streett (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#769

Racism should not be condoned. She should never be allowed to advocate for the city of Darlington when she is part of the problem.

Meghan Register (Hartsville, 2020-07-24)

#772

Out little town does not need this kind of racism spewed from anyone especially a member of city council. She refuses to apologize and she continues to try to divide our citizens. Please remove her from city council!

Cathy Kemmerlin (Darlingtin, 2020-07-24)

#775

I'm signing because council members are a reflection of our community. And the community expects better behavior when dealing with the public.

Terri Gainey (Hartsville, 2020-07-24)

#776

Right is right and wrong is wrong she was very wrong she used her position to say and do thing unbecoming to a elected official

Anne Foster (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#783

I feel she was abusing her power and she Was demeaning the law officer by her racist remarks to him. He did not deserve to be treated that way by her and it was just rude and disgusting behavior on her part...she does not deserve to be in office and needs to resign ASAP!!!

Angie Fernandez (Florence, 2020-07-24)

#786

A person in such a position as Mrs Baccus should know better than to speak to an officer in the manner in which she did. Racist is not a one way street, it goes in all directions and does not need to be swept under a rug.

April Hicks (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#787

The actions and comments made by Ms. Baccus to a police officer were unprofessional and racist. Officer Bryant actually gave me a ticket for parking illegally (I didn't know), and it made me furious, but I DID NOT call him any names, in fact I didn't talk to him at all, I simply went to the station and paid the ticket. Had I acted like Ms. Baccus, I would have probably been arrested. Ms. Baccus is an elected official and has a responsibility to her constituents to uphold the law, and abide by the law, which she did not do. Instead she made this a racial issue, which it was not. Why??? Sadly, Darlington has many problems, some of which are racial. The people need to come together as one and build our city up, not pull it further apart. As an elected official of the City of Darlington, Ms. Baccus should have abided by the law, and acted in a professional manner. This was a perfect situation for Ms. Baccus to set a positive example to her constituents, but instead she made it about race. If she truly feels the way she acted and believes what she said, she should most definitely be removed from her position. She will only divide our little City, not bring us all together because after all, we are all God's children, red or yellow, black or white, we are precious in His site, Jesus loves uscall!

Angie Watts (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#790

I'm signing this because the council woman was racist in her remarks. I know the patrolman personally & he is the least racist person on that department. The council woman should not be in a position of power with her racist attitude. Period.

Angie Deas (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#797

Darlington County residents deserve better than this poor representation of our citizens

Kim Hubbard (Darlington, 2020-07-24)

#798

I am AGAINST ALL RACISM

Kay Blackmon (GREER, 2020-07-24)
