For happy reasons, sad reasons, any reason. “Say it with flowers” . Even more so during lockdown when we can get just about everything else delivered and fresh flowers are missing . A vital contributor to wellbeing. An essential item for supermarkets and home delivery surely ? A shocking omission!Shona Old (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

I am a florist in chch and there were only 20 bunches of roses at the market today, And to see all those roses and other beautiful flowers be thrown out is such a waste of not only money but time and resourcesBriony Hobbs (Christchurch, 2021-09-08)

As a floristry student it’s sad seeing my industry suffer so much. Thousands of dollars worth of flowers going to waste. Flowers make people happy, they deserve to be essential. If you can get a bottle of wine delivered why can’t you get a bunch of flowers?Kaya Michaels (Christchurch, 2021-09-08)

I believe flowers can be delivered contactlessly.Flowers make people happy and show caring

I’m signing because flowers are an essential contribution to human well-being and traditions of a show of love, caring and compassion towards other humans. Most of the growers are family businesses operated with a passion for their business and their staff. Contactless deliveries are possible and happening for other industries. Let the flowers bring hope and happiness to the people.Glenyss Old (New plymouth, 2021-09-08)

I’m signing because I support the growers. If a niche donut maker can deliver in level 4 then these ladies should also be able to access all the willing customers for whom flowers are far more essential (and healthier!!)Claire Riach (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

I'm signing because I've grown my own cut flowers and it's very intensive with significant upfribt costs and small windows in availability. I can well imagine how these issues scale up in commercial growing. Flowers provide so much joy to people in all sorts of ways, and we need their growers to survive through and beyond Covid. Please help them.Lesley Stone (Auckland 1081, 2021-09-08)

I’m a very small scale flower farmer. Fortunately, the income I earn doesn’t significantly impact my families ability to meet our financial obligations but I know many flower farmers who are reliant on it.To have to bin product that is in every way perfect for sale is heartbreaking. It takes its toll not only financially but it is completely emotionally heart breaking. So much goes into each and every one of those flowers. From the plant selection and initial investment, through providing everything the plant needs to thrive and extinguishing everything that could be harmful and finally on to cutting the flower. It is pampered by the flower farmer in every way to make that flower as perfect for market as possible. To then have to throw it into the compost pile is soul destroying.
Flowers could be sold like any other produce at market without posing any more risk than a piece of broccoli would.

I own a florist store in Wellington and the lockdowns are killing the floral industry for the growers and the cycle goes on down the chain.Flowers are just as essential as wine and doughnut deliveries and we can still do this contactless.

I'm signing because flowers are perishable, and growers are not adequately compensated for their lost profits during level 4 lockdown.I'm also signing because while isolated from the majority of nature and outdoors, fresh flowers would be an excellent boost to my quality of mental health.
Please allow contactless delivery of cut flowers during level 4 lockdown.

Our flower growers are a vital part of the weddings and events industry. Not only have they lost any source of income due to covid, they are now being forced to destroy their crops. I think it is unfair that the flower growers are unable to sell their flowers during L4 especially when contactless delivery is do-able.The Government must support our small industry’s. It’s very disappointing that they aren’t listening to us.

I am a florist and believe that flowers are important for mental health and happiness 😊 the lockdown has been a blow to my new business. But mostly
I feel for all the growers who have not been able to sell their produce, and have suffered great financial losses.
This has not only been a financial loss for them but also heartbreaking as they had to throw away many hours of hard work and love .
I have seen this first hand as my family has been in the flower growing industry for many years. We were devastated when we saw the flowers opening their beautiful buds, knowing that we would soon have to rip them up and throw them out.
Please change the regulations around level 4 !!
Kia kaha
Please also be kind to us trying to make a living. Doing what we love .
Thanks, Rosanna.

Throughout the various lockdowns, I have wanted to give flowers (dropped off or delivered so I adhere to lockdown protocols) to friends and family who were celebrating a special occasion, suffering loss of a loved one or simply needing a lift in spirits. When I can buy and /or have delivered many things, including alcohol, which are considered essential for well-being, I would very much like to see fresh cut flowers added to the essential items list of products available. Thank you.Deb Ward (Auckland, 2021-09-08)
