The University of Oulu Zoological Museum must be saved

I visited the bird skeletal collection at the Zoological Museum several times during the last twenty years. The results of my research were published in a number of papers in internationally recognized journals. The collection in Oulu is of great scientific value and it would be a shame to destroy it. I do hope you can reconsider the decission and safe the collection as well as the Museum.

The museum at Oulu played an essential role at an early stage of my career as a scientist, by providing a base where I could collaborate with local scientists.

Much more importantly, the facility serves the Oulu community with a unique resource for interaction with the public, as I witnessed during a 3 weeks visit to collaborate with colleagues in Autumn 2015.

If the University of Oulu values as part of its mission public engagement and interaction, this museum has and can continue to provide a strong avenue for doin so.

It is very shameful and shows a clear lack of long-term vision that the valuable and deservedly appreciated University of Oulu Zoological Museum and its great scientific collection can be dismantled due to temporary pressures of cost cutting and savings… I would have never expected that this could happen in Finland.
