This council is totally out of control, and totally imcompetent. They listen to no one, or if they do "consult", they screw the scrum by only offering stated alternatives that allow them to avoid the real alternatives, an example being the proposed changes to the rating system. They need to be replaced with a commissioner. This latest debacle on george street, is just a continuation of a long list of disasters promulgated by council. The council is simply a de facto stand in for the green party who have their agenda. They know what is best for us, and with missionary zeal, they are going make sure we get it whether we like it or not. They want to drive us all back to the stone age, but with a bridge to nowhere but an empty hotel in the harbour. What a pack of absolute clowns.Denis Albert (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)

I have no faith in our councilJamie Mcfarland (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)

I consider this is a total and complete waste of money particularly in times of financial hardship , maybe not the council but certainly a lot of small businesses hurting like hell right now .Frank Harper (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)

This “mayor” is a waste of space and money and needs goneKathryn Tisdall (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)

I can’t see how this is beneficial especially in a time of financial hardship. Will Bourne (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)

I think the new mayor is an idiot closing down octogon planter boxes taking up car parks now and with what they did to George Street when there was no need for it I don't believe he is doing a good job just causing disruption to main parts of townMICHELLE MORAHAN (Brockville, 2020-05-21)

The council are not listening to the people of Dunedin and have there own set agendaDianne Bezett (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)
#1417
Because This Mayor Hawkins does not have the skills to do this job. We need someone with good business savy that will listen to the people of Dunedin who pay their wages. Some of the councillors are making our beautiful city into a circus. They are using covid 19 now as a way of getting the main street pedestrianised.Derryn Fewtrell (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)
#1423
It is such a ridiculous idea, you are making our city a big jokeDi Wind (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)
#1425
The council is wasting money on thongs without consideration for what the people of dunedon want. This is both undemocratic and stupid. The council are wasting money on silly projects while a recession is hitting the world, the money would be better spent feeding those that lose their jobsMatthew Reily-Bell (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)
#1428
A disgraceful example of shoe-horning in ideological changes in a time of crisis, when what is most needed are innovative, well thought out actions to boost Dunedin at a time when many are struggling. Hawkins and Co are recklessly backing their own ideological agendas. Saw it coming when he was elected to be honest, but this is just ridiculous.Mark Hathaway (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)
#1429
sick of being ripped off by people not living in the real world. Easy to spend someone else's money and put up the rates to spend it so unwiselyDavid Hyslop (Dunedin, 2020-05-21)

This low speed limit is unnecessary and has been done without consulting the general public and was done during a time where it was barely used due to a pandemic. It feels sneakily done.Veronica Laney (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1443
The majority of the council do not listen to the public, the rate payers (who in effect pay their wages). They steam on ahead with their mind boggling schemes that the majority do not want. They are destroying our city. Mayor Hawkins portrays himself as nothing but arrogant, smug, and this total pedestrianising the city, no cars etc is all about what he wants and his , to quote, ‘10 minutes of fame’. It was an utter embarrassment when TV 1 news reported on the new ‘dots’ along our Main Street - there was barely a soul to be seen. Not to mention the cringe I felt when our mayor spoke.Sandy Lauder (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1448
This council has been making decision after decision with little to no consultation with massive effects on local businesses and residents. This needs to stop, people need to have some say in what is happening in the city they live and work in. We need a leader with business acumen now more than ever and the current mayor does not posses the skills to get us through these times. We need to stop paying for these people to give away millions of dollars for projects that are actively hurting our city.Callum Cormack (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1453
The performance of the council under Hawkins leadership is an absolute joke.Cameron Miller (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

No consultation with the public regarding any of these stupid changes that make life harder instead of easier for people to use local businesses and live life in Dunedin!Suz Fox (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

#1458
I'm strongly opposed to the the manner in which the current mayor and councillors push through whatever grand design they like, without consultation with residents. The blatant and total disregard for business owners struggling to survive is ridiculous. Leave George Street the way it is, 30km, 2 lanes and get rid of these traffic blocking Barnes Danes. Nightmare!!!Block half the Octogon only for an evening for a special big event, after 4pm. Stop killing the city, the parking and current convenience for shoppers. Im SO disappointed with the Mayor, what a sap! No confidence in his ability to lead or to listen to the citicisn. He just pushes his own barrow disregarding everyone he is supposed to serve. Have all the councilors forgotten...you work for us!!! What a joke.

I am signing this as I feel as a rate payer , my money I pay is not getting spent in the right places. At this time when $$are in short supply, the council should be spending $ on fixing things like roads, drainage etc NOT wasting $ on hired flowers that could of been made for less $ and painting dots and changing of the main street to 10km. . Ripping out seating just makes our elders who most still come to city on buses have to walk for many more metres with no seats to rest on .. A lot of these councilor's and our mayor have their heads in the sand . NEED FOR A CULL OF THE COUNCIL & STAFF WHO ARE AGREEING TO THESE PATHETIC $ WASTING IDEAS.. the country is on the verge of a recession and our city is ripping out seating and painting dots.Chris Ashton (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1464
The council are spending copious amounts of ratepayers money on senseless George st changes and need to be held accountable.Using covid 19 as an excuse to push personal agendas is borderline corruption.

I am, along with my Brother are Dunedin ratepayers, and am signing this petition due to the Mayor and Councils lack of proper consultation on a range of issues that have resulted in short sighted decisions that are having a huge impact on the economic and social well being of the city. In these uncertain times Council needs to be setting an example on efficient spending, and not throwing money away on needless whims. This is ratepayers money we are talking about and Council needs to be prudent and responsible on how they spend our money.Roger Cotton (Lawrence, 2020-05-22)
#1537

The council are not listening to the rate payers. I fill in the surveys , but they don’t seem to want to hear what the ratepayers want in these hard times. Stop spending our money on silly flowers etc. we were always so proud of our pretty City. But now all we see is cheap silly things happening. The Main Street is disgusting and to welcome visitors to our city is embarrassing. We are the laughing stock of the nation.Philippa Gaye Hayward (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

They have not been listening to the rate payers and the colour dots are the last strawRonwyn Bell (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1566
I’m over of seeing and hearing about the stupid ways tax payers dollars are being spent in Dunedin. The mayor needs to be someone that understands what the city and it’s citizens needs and wants rather than just pushing for something of his own agenda like blocking George st of traffic and wanting a sandpit in the octagon. Don’t know about everyone else but I think sandpits belong at preschools not in the city centre.Matthew Burns (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1567
I think the mayor and the council have taken things too far. They are claiming this is all because of Covid 19 but is it really? Would those plans be out in place that quickly or were they already on the table before all this? The mayor putting giant dots on the road and sandpits in the Octagon? I'm all for progress, in fact I welcome it - but we aren't building a playground here folksShanla Bell (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

The ridiculous painting of the roads in the Main Street was the last straw. Absolute waste of money.Beth Brown (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1576
As above. Hawkins needs to be stopped and ousted from the DCC and stopped from ever entering any other form of government. His refusal to listen to the public, waste ratepayers money on unwanted play things and rate hikes(which is probably worst of all), is just absolutely appalling, disgusting in fact. This needs to stop and stop now. Get him and other council members who support him out now, before they ruin DunedinGene Stephenson (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

I feel a ridiculous amount of money has been wasted when there are so many more important things that should be done by the council. I also believe there new rules will deter people from coming into the city, causing enormous loss of income for retailers.Rowena Corbett (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1589
This Mayor and his council have repeatedly ignored the voices of the Dunedin ratepayers on many topics. I believe they only got into power with a flawed voting system that allowed the mayor into power on the 12th recount. Most of NZ use the FPP system. But that can be another petition.David Allnatt (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
#1592
The new council is just wasting money hand over fist. It’s time for them to stop and listen to the people of the town.Quillan Gutberlet (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

This is really a bloody joke. There are much more important things to spend $40k on then some dickens splashes of paint on the street that makes Dunedin look like a bloody kindergarten. Use your heads or get the hell out of town. You have no idea how to run a city.Jessic Wilson (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

This is our city. As a rate payer I expect The council to act responsibly with our hard earned dollars.Remember the people that have the money to spend at the shops in the central city drive cars.
How about putting some effort into improving the basic services to the greater city area instead of these focused battles to waste money on the central city area only.
Stand down as mayor you incompetent fool.
Phillip Boult (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)

The Mayor and some councillors are set on a course that does not meet the needs of the majority of the voting Dunedin population. They are frittering away money to push their own causes with little regard for how it affects the people of Dunedin.Stacey Gribben (Dunedin, 2020-05-22)
