STOP ALL EFFORTS TO CLOSE ANY HIGH POINT TERRACE STREETS

I don't think street closures are ever appropriate, and only serve to divide people and communities.

This closure would add necessary time to gt to work and the other side streets(Severe & Highpoint Terrace) This idea appears one of exclusion. Please do not close these. A majority of the neighborhood does not want this.

We appreciate everyone's input, thoughts and collaboration. We are against the pocket park on Mimosa because it forces traffic to our other streets (which is not fair to them) and if everyone follows suit and we lose all our access points, HPT at WG would be always backed up, even with a light. Thanks again to all for their time and effort on this.

I live on mimosa close to highland. We need access to major streets.

(Memphis, 2019-07-12)

#25

Secondary street closures will only make Highland St traffic more dense and unsafe which will make it even harder for us (residents), as well as postal and delivery personnel to enter and exit our property. We have no on- street parking now and will soon have bike lanes to contend with (perhaps with loss of a turn lane?). Public safety should be of some concern. Needless to say, our property values along the primary roads will fall while those on secondary roads will benefit. This whole street closure concept is grossly unjust on many levels; I oppose it.

#26

I'm signing because I do not want our neighborhood to wall itself off from the rest of Memphis. If I wanted to live in a gated community...I would.

(Memphis, 2019-07-13)

#29

I live in the neighborhood immediately west of HIgh Point and walk there to use the Greenline. Street closures would negatively impact the safety of walkers.

(Memphis, 2019-07-13)

#32

I oppose closing streets in my neighborhood. I live within 500 feet of the proposed closure of Mimosa Avenue at Highland Road.

(Memphis, TN, 2019-07-13)

#35

This has become too frequent where the City makes street changes without listening to VALID CONCERNS that Adversely and Negatively affect homeowner and small businesses, they did on Macon Rd. and now Highland area.

(Memphis, 2019-07-13)

#39

This proposed plan would be detrimental to all who live and work in the High Point area.

(Memphis, 2019-07-14)

#40

There are homeowners and others that this would cause a hardship to.

(Memphis, 2019-07-14)

#43

I have lived in the area for most of my life and do not want to see High Point Terrace turn into a thoroughfare.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#44

I have lived on Mimosa Ave. for over 40 years and do not want my street turned into a dead-end. Restricting traffic flow to and from the neighborhood will be a burden to residentsby slowing and clotting commuter traffic in and around High Point Terrace.
Do not close any streets.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#45

I have friends in this area and travel through it on occassion. This is an open neighborhood both physically and socially. High Point doesn't need gated communities!

(Cordova, 2019-07-15)

#47

I travel these streets and believe closures would negatively impact traffic and the community.

(MEMPHIS, 2019-07-15)

#48

I live here and dont want streets closed.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#50

This is a neighborhood and we all deserve to be able to come and go from various streets. They should not be closed for a park. There is plenty of space to create a park in which public streets don’t have to be closed.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#53

it is just a bad idea

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#55

I lived in Highpoint Terrace for years & raised 5 children there. Ridiculous idea. It is fine the way it is. Highpoint terrace would turn into a racetrack.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#58

I completely trust Carter Beard to speak on behalf of me. We think alike.
Not safe- do NOT need to change this after all these years.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#59

I agree that street closures will create more traffic for all surrounding streets.

(Memphis, 2019-07-15)

#63

I live off High Point in Charleston Square and feel the street is already busy enough without blocking off entrance/exit points.

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#68

I live in the area and the street closures are bad for our neighborhood.

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#69

Closing a street that provides a tributary for commuters will only end up adding congestion to the other major thoroughfares. Maybe there are better ways to control current issues like a traffic circle or light.

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#70

I am a native Memphian and this will effect the residents, visitors, and businesses in this area negatively.

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#71

I work in the high point terrace neighborhood.

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#72

Former HP resident and frequent HP visitor. Also, I live very close on a "cut through" street that may see an increase in traffic.

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#74

I lived in HP for about 15 yrs. This is ridiculous!!

(Memphis, 2019-07-16)

#81

I live in this neighborhood and i care about it

(Memphis, 2019-07-17)

#82

Excluding neighborhood access to and from businesses on Highpoint is harmful to all

(Memphis, 2019-07-17)

#84

The neighborhood does not want or need the inconvenience.

(Collierville, 2019-07-18)

#90

The neighborhood was not designed for the traffic flows that will result from this poorly conceived idea.

(Memphis, 2019-07-29)

#92

I object to the pocket park concept and the closing of any streets in High Point Terrace neighborhood.

(Memphis, 2019-07-30)

#93

I live a mile away from HPT and frequent the grocery store, pub and pizza joint. It is already difficult to cross over High Point Terrace in front of the shopping area because of the curve and traffic. More traffic could cause safety issues!

(Memphis, 2019-08-01)

#95

I support a centralized location for a neighborhood park.

(Memphis, 2019-08-02)

#97

The neighborhood and streets are not designed to be closed off. Would increase traffic at entry and exit points and would not contribute to a safer neighborhood. Other ways to make a safer neighborhood then building fences.

(Memphis, 2019-08-02)

#100

I work at the barber shop and closing the road will be terrible for our customers.

(Memphis, 2019-08-19)

#103

Between 3:30 and 6pm, traffic bottlenecks on Walnut Grove from Holmes to White Station. This closing would severely limit cross street options for all residents!!

(Memphis, 2019-08-20)

#104

I like the easy access to the shopping o high point

(Memphis, 2019-08-20)

#105

I use the Greenline and the streets in the area.

(Memphis, 2019-08-20)

#106

I loved the neighborhood but had to move because of property taxes but am opposed to street closures

(Memphis, 2019-08-20)

#107

The wishes of a few rich people should never override an entire community.

(Memphis, 2019-08-20)

#114

We have bigger issues. Address neighborhoods that need more care and help.

(Memphis, 2019-08-22)

#125

The proposal is ludicrous.

(Memphis, 2019-10-07)

#127

I'm opposed to the street closing at Mimosa and Highland due to safety concerns for the people in the neighborhood. I had a recent experience where an elderly family member needed ambulance transportation to the emergency room but was delayed several minutes due to this closure. The ambulance had to turn around in a driveway and make a detour to get to Sam Cooper in order to get to Baptist ER. Minutes count in emergencies.

(Memphis, 2020-06-08)

#129

I’m signing this petition because I am in agreance with the statements above. I think it is VITAL for our first responders to have any and all access to open streets. There is no reason to close any street.
