I prefer red Holdens. Also I want the continued assurance my vote is meaningful.

Fiona Bowker (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#7

FFP can allow in a minority choice; STV is a more democratic system.

Lachlan Paterson (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#8

STV is best practice for democratic government.

Lisa Ellis (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#9

democracy!

Alex Miller (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#10

I firmly belief STV is a much fairer system of electing our representatives. I strongly oppose any return to the less than democratic FPP system.

Lorraine Johnston (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#11

STV is vastly more democratic than FPP.

Mark Baxter (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#12

I'm signing because the opposition to this like the whining about MMP, is led by arrogant self-interested tossers who presume their sense of entitlement should outweigh the democratic rights of all.

Paul Enright (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#17

We need democracy here :)

Caz Brigham (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#22

STV is less divisive and more democratic than FPP. NZers are comfortable with and understand proportional representation. It would be a significant step backwards to revert to FPP.

Suzanne Robins (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#25

I'm signing because STV is the most democratic option

Jo Bain (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#27

I think that candidates that are inclusive and acceptable to the majority should be mayor, and not candidates supporter by a fanatical minority.

Angus Matheson (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#29

STV is clearly far more democratic. Let’s not let these sore losers change our voting system because their outspoken candidate didn’t get enough votes

Brock Anderson (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#31

Stv is the fairest way to allocate votes

Andrew Nally (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#33

I do not want to return to an archaic system that only works with 2 candidates when we may have 15 standing.

Joanne Neilson (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#34

I believe in the need for proportional, fair voting systems such as STV and MMP and this includes at local government level.

Chris Ford (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#35

I very much approve of STV as the best system for voting for civic representatives.

Mike Moroney (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#39

FPP is objectively more democratic

Samuel Hansard (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#41

I'm signing this because STV is a fairer way to elect our council

Sam Mehrtens (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#44

STV gives more power to a person’s vote and more accurately reflects what society wants in power. Gives minorities a more equitable chance to be voted in.

Emiko Cowell (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#52

FPP is undemocratic.
STV allows the voices of groups that are under-represented within our society, to be heard.

Andrea Johnston (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#54

STV is better!

Glynn Babington (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#55

The people who think FPP is better than STV are the people who have a solid understanding of neither.

Josh Voorkamp (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#58

STV has saved us from a certain bullying Kyle who is still throwing his toys out of the cot. I helped get STV over the line in 2004 and will fight to retain!

phil baskerville (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#62

STV is more democratic than any other system and doesn't need to be changed

Karen Milton (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#63

FPP is a flawed system, and STV is dramatically fairer.

Miguel Nitis (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#64

I believe stv produces a more representative mayor

Stasi Elliott (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#70

I believe stv is the fairest system

Judy Martin (Waikouaiti, 2020-07-26)

#71

This is the fairest system we've ever had. We don't need to change it just because one person, who lost the mayoralty and his 12 diaperciples doesn't understand it.

Stephen Stedman (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#73

I'm signing because STV is a far fairer system than FPP.

Marion Read (Outram, 2020-07-26)

#78

I am in favor of democracy.

Michael LeBuffe (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#81

We need a PR system for fair representation in local politics

Helen Gibbs (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#82

It's fairer.

Antoni Campbell (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#86

FPP is not Democratic - STV means everyone elects someone they voted for - if you want to change Dunedin in a positive way create community boards for city neighbourhoods instead

Paul Campbell (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#88

STV can mathematically be shown to best reflect the preferences of voters

Hamish Orbell (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#91

I believe STV gives the fairer representation of what the public truly wants than any other voting system for local body elections.

Siobhan Dillon (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#92

I believe STV is more democratic.

Nichola Harper (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#94

People are only pushing for FPP in DCC elections because it favours their preferred candidate. I don't see any of them complaining about how ditching FPP for national elections now means that their non-Labour votes actually get counted.

Nick Graham (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#98

The system of voting cannot keep changing just because a small group of supporters, and the losing candidate, did not take the time to educate themselves on the STV system.
STV is more representative of the voters wishes.

Wendy Barron (Dunedi, 2020-07-26)

#99

STV is the most democratic system. Returning to FPP would be a big step back to the days where mayors with a 30% share of the vote could take the seat. Please retain STV.

Kate Timms-Dean (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#102

Stv is fair and should be retained for all elections

Alistair Gunn (Auckland, 2020-07-26)

#103

STV stands for great representation l.

Bex Twemlow (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#105

This is clearly the most democratic voting system. A return to FPP would be a return to the bad old days and result in a loss of representation.

Karl Bartleet (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#109

WTF. FPP is the dumbest most antiquated corrupt system for voting in anything other than a two horse race.
Ignorance should not be allowed to win. Why are we even giving oxygen to these ridiculous demands. It like someone screaming at their washing machine because they refuse to read the instructions or engage with the words in the screen, yell at anyone who try’s to help show them the in button and then demand everyone wash everything forever by hand forever because they don’t understand the system.

Barbara Anderson (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#110

I’m signing because STV is a more effective representation system to use in multi-member constituency elections than FPP and ensures mayors are elected on a majority.

Janine Hayward (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#112

STV is a far superior and much more democratic voting system than FPP, which can potentially allow a candidate with a small minority of the vote (but a plurality over any other candidate) to win an election,. I find regressing back to FFP highly objectionable. STV works.

Timothy McMullen (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#115

The issue of mode of voting needs debate. Too many people simply cannot understand the various systems and their advantages and drawbacks. Time for clear messaging so people can genuinely decide.

Martin Andrew (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#116

FFP doesn't work when there are more than one candidate

Annie Naylor (Waitati, 2020-07-26)

#117

STV works for democracy

Jacqueline Ruston (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#119

As a city and as a nation we have come so far in terms of more comprehensive representation in our government since we ditched FPP. I would hate to see us take such a backward step

Christine Moana Wesley (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#123

Because STV is the best system we have to ensure the majority of people are represented in and choice with 3 or more options.

Arron Eases (Christchurch, 2020-07-26)

#127

Research has shown categorically that these are the fairest ways to elect diverse councils. In the 2016 STV election, if you were to put the councillors on the Town Hall stage & fill the hall up, then ask for the audience to put their hand up if there was someone on that stage they voted for, an ASTONISHING 93.4% of people in the audience would have their hand up.

STV also encourages groups of people who would normally not be engaged in the election process to become active political citizens.

First Past the Post, as studies have showed, time after time, often elects councils that aren't representative of the wider population, returning very small demographic groups into power - this is just immoral in the 21st C.

DO NOT give into these small minded idiots who plan to take us back to the good old days when white men in suits want to dominate local body elections & councils.

Paul Le Comte (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#128

I like the STV system!

Debbie Howell (Dunedin, 2020-07-26)

#135

PR is a vital tool in modern democracies and we need to retain STV to ensure fair voting practices. FPP voting is a tool for divisive candidates and extremist politics

Shane Montague-Gallagher (Dunedin, 2020-07-27)

#141

I would like to keep stv as it is the fairest system for us to elect our mayor and councillors.

Carolyne Smith (Dunedin, 2020-07-27)

#146

I believe STV to be the better voting system

AJ Corbett (Dunedin, 2020-07-28)

#148

Because STV is a far more democratic voting system than FPP - I would actually like for my vote to count.

Shoshana Watt (Dunedin, 2020-07-28)

#149

I like STP better. Certainly do not support going back to FPP system

Alax Robinson (Dunedin, 2020-07-28)

#150

i like obviously many others either voted for Aaron or was second choice. STV represents what the people want

ConnaghNadia Wesley (DUNEDiN, 2020-07-28)

#153

STV is a far better, more representative voting system—and retuning to FPP just b/c someone thinks it’ll up their divisive chances is ludicrous.

Kim Morgan (Dunedin, 2020-07-28)

#156

I think it is fairer for all voters to RETAIN STV!

Jacquetta Burleigh (DUNEDIN, 2020-07-28)

#159

STV is far more representative than FPP.

William Dreyer (Dunedin, 2020-07-28)

#169

I'm signing because some misinformed individuals are hoping to force our council to waste masses of money on a poll, which would likely lead to retention of STV anyway. STV is more fair and improves the chance of diversity in council. I like that.

Abi Walker (Dunedin, 2020-08-02)

#174

I care about the proper function of democracy, especially in the state institutions that run our lives and care for our environs, FPP is trash and disproportionately supports a minority of views in most places it's implemented.

Arlo Priest Forsyth (Dunedin, 2020-08-03)

#176

I am very happy with our current mayor and think the city councillors who ix pushing to go back to FPP is a sore loser and a tosser!

Deb Dougherty (Dunedin, 2020-08-03)

#180

FPP is undemocratic

Peter Weeda (Dunedin, 2020-08-03)

#183

I grew up in the UK where FPP is the voting system and it doesn't provide fair representation.

oscar mitchell (canongate, 2020-08-06)

#184

I wish to remain as an STV voter, as its the fairer system.

Helen Don (Dunedin, 2020-08-07)

#185

STV is fair, FPP is only useful to get minority councillors in

Brendon Harvey (Dunedin, 2020-08-08)

#187

I'm signing because FPP is inherently unfair and produces poor representation of people's preferences for Mayoral and Council elections. STV offers less powerful communities better chances of representatives reflecting their interests while avoiding the predominance of rich vested interests in city decisionmaking. In short, it delivers fairer, more representative outcomes.

Brian Dixon (Dunedin, 2020-08-17)

#188

I'm signing because I believe STP is the most democratic solution to providing representation in local government.

Shane Loader (Dumedin, 2020-08-27)

#194

I agree

Mandy Mayhem (Waitati, 2021-05-15)
