The refinery is a key component in N Z’s self sustainability. The infrastructure for the shift to ‘green energy’ is a long way off. The ownership of this asset needs to come back to the peopleShane Miru (Northland, 2022-06-30)

I believe New Zealand should retain our oil refinery and not so reliant on overseas supplies causing increases and vulnerability. Our people also need the employment. Thank you for seeking options for New Zealand ownership, as we are disappointed with closures without listening to those of most interest.Anthea Keenan (Hokitika, 2022-07-02)

Destroying our main means of transportDestroys us as a nation
Buying fuel from off shore

New Zealand needs a secure fuel supply. I would like to understand why this has not been a high priority for our governments to secure a fully functional refinery in NZ with the future potential to refine our own NZ extracted crude. We need to be honest, what is the proportion of carbon are we saving by importing diesel, Jet A1, bitumen and carbon dioxide?Carly Milburn (Whangarei, 2022-07-02)

It is essential New Zealand is completely independent of the rest of the world. Being so isolated geographically, it is stupid to rely on fuel/goods/services being imported. We need our own refinery and whoever is responsible for deciding to shut down Marsden Point should be facing charges of treason along with the current occupants of the beehive. New Zealanders need fuel, we need it for our trucks, our cars and all shutting down our refinery is achieving is hurting New Zealanders.Kirsten Elms (Hastings, 2022-07-03)

NZ is perfectly capable, as has been proven, to produce, refine and make full use of our own crude oil, without having to be at the mercy of paying for overseas high cost product. Our Refinery should be firmly in the ownership hands of our country and under the control of the NZ people.Elsie Wood (Christchurch, 2022-07-04)

Our Oil Refinery "Marsden Point" Belongs to the people of Aotearoa for the people, we don't have to rely on any other country for supply when we have our very own Taonga that is our own Resource. Why are Politicians buying from outside countries when we can supply our own country...?, and we won't have the price hikes of Petrol going through the roof!Maud Porima (Kirikiriroa, 2022-07-04)
#124
It makes no sense to close Marsden Oil Refinery. It leaves New Zealand and New Zealanders completely vulnerable. It makes a loud and clear statement that current refinery management and government cannot be trusted. New Zealanders, including our family, have NO CONFIDENCE that they will do what is right, act wisely, walk transparently or concern themselves in respect to our best interests.Pauline Lamerton (Mangawhai, 2022-07-04)

The New Zealand Government/Parliament is a fraudulent, organised criminal corporation. They are deliberately crippling New Zealanders and the Economy to accomplish an Agenda they, without our submission, agreement or consent signed us all up to with the United Nations. The Refinery closure shuts down 85%of our fuel production and storage capacity - leaving us all entirely dependent on the remainder which is overseas-sourced, and will be prohibitively expensive to ship here, and scarce in supply and extreme in cost to all fuel users, from International and National Airlines, to Farmers, Transportation Companies, to Mum taking the Kids to Soccer Practice on Sunday mornings...This needs to be stopped, reversed - immediately! And those responsible held to account in Court to the fullest degree.

I support many aspects of this petition but not the rational that uses or refers to the emissions trading scheme or climate change theories. The closing of NZ's oil refining assets is from my perspective, noting to do with reducing emissions or reducing NZ's carbon foot print, but what has been negotiated by politicians who do not have New Zealand's or New Zealanders Interests at heart, but that of International bankers such as the IMF and WB, not to mention the influence of the WEF who are pretty much dictating the reduction if not total cessation of oil and oil products, something that will dramatically effect Westen economies, as we are seeing in Germany whose Industry is failing due to Govt policy. NZ should be self reliant not only in the processing of oil, but food stuffs, in particular locally grown foods. The more NZ has to rely on foreign entities for our basic necessities, the more NZ is exposed to global financial mismanagement. Keeping our oil refineries open, is one way to keep jobs and to keep the cost production of bi-products down. Home Grown is always better, cost effective and improves efficiencies.
