The petition to continue the operation of the Karteroopi
Karteroopi, located in Hallila, Tampere, distributes free clothes, shoes and home textiles donated by Tampere and Pirkanmaa residents in good condition and sometimes even new and like-new condition to the needy people. Between May and December of this year, Karteroopi has had almost 10,000 customer visits and almost 30,000 kilograms of good-condition recycled textiles have been distributed to needy people in Tampere through it. The organization of this huge amount has been made possible by wonderful volunteers led by one part-time employee. The employee has also made it possible for the association behind Karteroopi, Mahdollisuuksien Talo ry, to offer, among other things, low-threshold work trial periods for people who find it very difficult to find employment, as well as internships for students.
In relation to the total budget, the price of one customer visit is €6.75 and most visitors also look for clothes for their own family members. So all we know about our customer base is that the actual number of people receiving clothes is significantly higher than our customer base. This cost-effective operation is now either coming to an end or at least very major changes, unless we can raise the necessary sum to hire one person. The parishes of Tampere have promised to take care of our rental costs for the next six months, and the association can pay a quarter of all costs.
By signing this petition, you are supporting our work and informing decision-makers that carbon neutrality goals can be achieved at very low costs, providing clothing assistance to an ever-growing group of customers living in financially difficult situations, and enabling the experience of equality and dignity also for those who feel ashamed of their situation. Thank you very much for your support!
