Hurrah - the concrete separators are going

2025-02-13 05:35:55

Lynley was at today's Council meeting and reports as follows:

This is an extract from today's TDC meeting agenda and the meeting voted to accept the staff recommendation to accept Option One

Aranui Road
Option 1 Remove concrete separators and retain painted cycle lane.
Advantage
- Provides reasonable level of service for cyclists and other active mode users.
- Eliminates a source of concern for some cycle lane users who are concerned about hitting the separators.
- Aligned with apparent community preference.
Disadvantage Some cyclists may feel less protected from passing vehicles.

Option 2 Retain concrete separators and add vertical delineators
Advantage - Provides physical separation between cycle lane user and passing vehicles.
Disadvantage
- Does not address community concerns.
- Vertical delineators generate maintenance and handlebar strike concerns.

Option 3 Remove concrete separators and remove painted cycle lane.
Advantage - Satisfies community members who want on-road parking reinstated.
Disadvantage
- Increases risk for cyclists.
- Fails to take steps to contribute to meeting the targets and policies in approved Council strategies.

For Aranui Road, option A1 – remove concrete separators and retain painted cycle lane is recommended.
