#532014-11-01 15:39Kensigton / Factreton is already a densely populated area that is plagued by all the society ills of a densely populated poor community. Crime, unemployment and poverty is rife here. It is a well established fact that there are other communities that are considerably less densely populated and also have considerably better crime statistics. These communities also happen to be inhabited by majority wealthy people. These less densely populated areas would be a better choice for relocation. Further more, the Blaauwberg area is not a previously disadvantaged community like Kensington / Factreton is. The facilities and infrastructure is as a result, more advanced. It makes no sense to move a people who are located closer to these better facilities to a community where the facilities are of a lesser quality. It is difficult not to interpret the decision to rather move the DuNoon residents to Kensington as a decision that benefits and prioritises the wealthier Blaauwberg residents. Given the fact that Transnet and the City of Cape Town have also come to this decision without consulting the people of Kensington, it seems there is a deliberate intention to infringe the human rights of the Kensington community. |

#542014-11-02 07:38This move will have a negative impact on the community and it will bring down the value of the houses. |

#562014-11-04 11:33Kensington has people renting and sharing houses and many backyard dwellers not to mention their own squatter camp residents who shoukd be given first option to these low cost housing |

#612014-11-18 08:56I really am horrified by this proposal of relocating these residents without considering socio-economic and Enviromental Impacts on the affectyed Communities. This will lead to an increase in Crime and Poverty issues. This is totally unfair to both these communities and will not work in the broader interest of the City either. STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY !!!!! |

#622014-12-10 07:23 Further to all the comments made, we as Kenfac residence need to put our differences aside and look at the bigger picture here. If we allow for this relocation to happen, we are heading for further disaster. Everyone is right in saying the government don’t care about us. Look at how Cape Town has become a refugee city for foreigners. 90% of them are probably illegal and how is the government handling this? They're not. All of our resources are being used up by them, jobs are taken because, they are paid under the table, less than minimum wage/salary. They are allowed to open shop anywhere there is a gap and our housing well that goes without saying. We should not just blame government for allowing foreigners into our city and community, we should blame ourselves as well. We as a community have allowed this to happen but it can be fixed. How many of the Eastern Cape ,etc ppl work in Cape Town, live in townships and other squatter camps? And mean while they have better houses than us that live in other ppl's back yards. Our schools are filled with children from outside our community, yes everyone has the right to education, so why can’t the government improve their own schools in their communities? Small kids travel by themselves from as far as khayelitsha every day. Maitland High has so many outside kids attending there but drive past this school after 8 and see how many of these kids are walking around outside the school and in the main road. I have been renting for most of my adult life, single parent of two, no other form of income, do not qualify for RDP housing, I earn too much, don’t qualify for a bond, earn to little but can apply for housing sub, but is left to cover the cost of transfer cost, attorney fees etc which I can’t afford. Look around ppl, we have already basically lost our city, don’t let us loose our community as well. Why has the Windermere Army Camp not been signed off for residential development? Look at all the developments that have happened, all out in Kuilsriver etc areas and these are sectional title, where not only do you have a bond to cover, you have a levy to pay over and above your rates & taxes, sewerage, water and electricity, so where do we as single income hard working class people fit in? Let us fight for our rights and needs.
