#262015-01-03 11:42I am signing this petition in the hope - as, despite all the efforts that are made everywhere in our present time to dismantle, devalorize and reduce culture, I do still have hopes that, here and there, the intelligence of a few can win over the stupidity of the masses - that Basel may remain the interesting, open-minded and lively city of culture it has always been. If now, all of a sudden, a substantial amount of all of Basel's musicians are thrown out, Basel will become just a provincial nest with a rather scarred reputation... |

#272015-01-03 21:05Basel has always been a centre for music and especially early music. its influence has spread around the world in the form of teachers, workshops, as well as recordings. MUSIC IS INTERNATIONAL! |

#282015-01-04 02:01Though I am not familiar with this area it saddens me to see this happen to persons who carry on this great form of music and I wish them my best support. It is nice to finally know where so many of these great people come from musically and I wish to see more from there as I continue to explore my favorite musical style and see who else comes from there. |

#292015-01-05 17:08I do not have the words to describe the very poor mentality of this new law, against culture, against also to common sense. |

#312015-01-07 02:49Switzerland, allowing these great musicians would contribute to the preservation of Europe's musical heritage and enrich music worldwide (as it has affected me in the USA through your musicians)! Please support these musicians and not deport them. |

#352015-01-08 12:02Have the bureaucrats of the Basel gov't never been to a concert in one of their gorgeous historical churches? Do they not know how very unique their city is in providing a space for people from all over the world to learn about and practice historical music? (not to mention all the other forms of music that the city is known for, largely through the efforts of the MusikAkademie...) And clearly they have no idea how important (artistically and financially) and completely normal it is for a musician to work in a variety of contexts. Only orchestral musicians ever have the chance to work for a single employer. None of the forms of music for which Basel is world famous call for an orchestra. Without the input of musicians from all over the world, Basel will lose its special status as a mecca for early music. This will be a great loss for the city and for the musical community. |

#372015-01-08 21:16The law itself is understandable, but is poorly conceived when it automatically excludes an entire group of professions. The lack of discretion shown to employees in professional fields that often require multiple simultaneous employments proves that politicians do not know, or do not care, about the intricacies of various fields. |

#382015-01-08 21:34This law was obviously not meant for musicians who are always exceptions. They bring joy, not packages, they create beauty, not fast cars. They must be treated as specialists in making the world a better place to live and it seems logical that they be allowed to live in a well-known cultural centre where they can do what they do, better, and help others to do the same, whether they be from the mother country or from the world at large. Musicians are exceptions! Please treat us exceptionally … |

#412015-01-11 01:54You are doing something very worthwhile with this petition. This morning I have forwarded the link to 400 people on my mailing lists, many of them music lovers. I have also posted the petition on my FB page. Yours sincerely Jean-Pierre Kirkland, Musicologist in northern Thailand |

#422015-01-11 04:16In general, I believe entrepreneurs or self-employed people (or anyone prepared to work or volunteer) are good for the economy and culture of a city/country. I remember enjoying visiting Genève and travelling on the trams because there was nearly always someone busking during the trip. When I go on holiday (or even just to attend a conference) I try to choose towns where there is a lot of live music and concerts and recitals. I would avoid Switzerland if it became a "dead" country in terms of music and the arts. |

#432015-01-11 15:10I realize that musicians, as artists, rarely have a fixed salary from any one employer. However, if they are good musicians, they do make a good living, and serve the citizens of the country where they live by contributing to the arts and culture for the local people as well as tourists. |

#442015-01-11 22:28Many musicians have a mixed portfolio of employment. By denying musicians from non-EU countries permission to remain you will diminish the musical life of Basel irrevocably. |

#452015-01-12 07:13Sehr wichtig diese Musiker nicht EU in der Schweiz zu behalten. Es ist ein Reichtum und eine Ehre solcher Menschen im Land zu haben und zu behalten |

#462015-01-12 09:28It is already difficult for musicians to make a living. Please support us in our work! |

#492015-01-13 01:11Spievajte Jahvemu novu piesen, lebo vykonal zazracne skutky, Vydobil si vitazstvo svojou pravicou a svojim svätym ramenom. Jahve oznamil svoju spasu, svoju spravodlivost zjavil narodom. Rozpamätal sa na svoju lasku a vernost k vyvolenemu narodu. Vsetky narody videli pomoc nasho Boha. Oslavujte Jahveho po celej zemi, zanotte radostne piesne, spievajte zalmy! Spievajte Jahvemu za sprievodu harfy, za sprievodu harfy a zvucnych nastrojov! Zvukom polnic a hlasitych rohov oslavujte pritomnost Jahveho, nasho Krala! Zahuc, more, so vsetkym svojim tvorstvom i cela zem zo svojimi obyvatelmi. Rieky, radostne jasajte, hlasne zasumte, vsetky hory, pred Jahvem, lebo prichadza, lebo prichDZA SUDIT ZEM. Bude spravodlivo sudit cely svet a nad narodmi vynesie nestranny rozsudok. Zalm 98 (Psalm 98) |
