#262015-12-13 23:31Have known Kim for many years and can honestly say she has turned her life right round to become the person she is today........ She has helped many communities, families & individuals through rough times and has the determination to continue doing this! Good luck Kim you deserve to be on this course as your not the same person you were 10 years ago! |

#272015-12-13 23:53Kim is real...she done wrong and is now doing right! Everyone makes mistakes! No one is perfect...don't forget that |

#282015-12-14 00:04Why continue to punish someone who has clearly learned from their mistake and turned their life around? |
Guest |
#292015-12-14 05:18Because a friend who I trust vouched for this person, and I'm pretty sure a crime should be considered (and IS considered in English/Welsh law) spent after a certain period of time. Certainly after 10 years! That means you don't even have to reveal it to a college or an employer, etc. |

#302015-12-14 07:56Aware of this major issue for decades One of my nephews.was offered a super job in IT in USA ....as a young graduate. Howe re he dicovered, his record as a 15 year old, for a minor minor offence, prohibited him from accepting the post . USA immigration would not NOT consider granting him a visa! |

#312015-12-14 09:32Good luck hen. Education is the key to success. I do hope the college changes it's policy as they are being silly. |

#322015-12-14 10:46Things done when someone was in a bad way and that are acknowledged and apologised for, with any relevant punishment served, should not impede their efforts to turn their life around. |

#342015-12-14 16:28If politicians are allowed to continue in their role after committing more serious crimes, they need to explain why this young lady is being denied the opportunity to turn her life around? |

#352015-12-14 16:49MP's commit serious crimes yet continue to work in their public role. Our streets are becoming crowded with people who have got into debt, lost their job, fallen by the wayside through no fault of heir own, become drug addicts, ended up in jail for petty crime, in hospital with chronic illness- very often as a consequence of unfair political decisions. Whats good for the goose! time to end this discrimination. |

#362015-12-14 21:23There is no UK police constable that has a Disclosure and Barring Service check (CRB) We are the only country in Europe to persecute people for crimes which would of been spent (1974 rehabilitations act). The DBS is also discriminating against the indigenous people of the UK and i have proof....... |

#372015-12-14 21:39This looks like a clear example of where the College has taken a disproportionate view on Kims criminal record. Now the record is 10 years old, it shouldn't prevent her from studying or working in her chosen field of employment. It's a classic example of an organisation failing to properly consider a criminal record and disregard it as being no longer relevant. I'm really pleased Kim has raised this because it's important that we raise awareness of cases like this and challenge the stigma and discrimination people face. |

#392015-12-14 23:06The HNC Working With Communities course should be all about inclusion, opportunity, lack of prejudice and supporting people to become empowered to lead better lives and make informed choices that will benefit them and their own community. Kim is the epitome of who and what the course is all about. Her college classmates (of which I am one) and her placement providers are all happy to work with her. Her disclosure has cleared her. Please don't let bureaucracy result in this jewel losing a place on the course she loves. I have no doubt that Kim will be instrumental in helping many young citizens in our communities turn their lives round for the better. Do the right thing SLC and give her the opportunity to get the qualifications she deserves
Good Luck Kim

#432015-12-15 07:58Because I have absolutely no doubt Jesus would totally approve of the basic humanity of this attitude to each and every individual. |

#44 Legal advocacy service2015-12-15 09:04it is exactly due to having cases like this that Nacro set up a free legal advocacy service. We have had monumental success in this area so I just hope Kim has been in touch. |

#462015-12-15 09:22Everyone deserves a chance to turn their life around and this girl appears to have done that 100%. We should not be crucified for the mistakes in our past. She's shown remorse and it's not the person she is today. If the work placement don't have an issue with her convictions why should the college? What about the rehabilitation of offenders act? Will be praying about this....I feel it is unjust. |

#472015-12-15 10:09We all make mistakes in life , but if you learned from it then we deserve a second chance .. It's what this person could now go to contribute to society that matters , not her past.. #letitgo |

#482015-12-15 12:59My own past is similar to Kims and yes i made many mistakes a long, long time ago but that should not count against someone who is committed to change and transformation. I also managed to turn my life around and change my circumstances and now live a far far improved life. However if it wasn't for the good people who gave me the opportunity to change who knows where i would be? When are we going to accept that people, especially young people do make mistakes in life. It happens and we need to provide opportunity and rehabilitation. Good Luck Kim! |

#502015-12-15 18:45People are too quick to judge, I think if the person has the strength and desire to get out bad situations and better themselves they are far stronger people at the end of it. Hope you do well x |
