I live in the New Forest, where the apparently wild ponies are actually owned. The area is monitored by Verderers, and any owner neglecting his animals is prosecuted. Maybe they need a system like this in Wales.

This is so sad and i see it first hand regularly, i absolutely agree that something must be done and soon, i must say that it is a widespread problem and not just in wales, i am welsh a horse owner and very proud of my heritage and our wonderful hill ponies.

This needs to end NOW - it is totally unacceptable practise. The Law needs to be changed to ensure that all these ponies are mirco chipped and passported so that the owners are registered (and then can be prosecuted).

This petition is a great idea. Having rescues ponies for over a decade now I think drastic measures need to be done to stop these animals suffering.

the welsh pony is a lovely pony and leting this happen to them is wrong somthing should be done for a breed that has served man in lots of ways now to be let over breed with sick starving ponys and to let them end up like this is not what people should let happen only people can help them

We in the States are having the same problems as well. I wish these horses safe and warm homes, and for people to step up, even if it is just a few pounds or dollars to help.

The plight of this animal. is disgusting.. why do people think they can just continue to breed when probably most of their normal predators have been killed or moved to some other location..this is why when humans start to mess with mother nature things go badly.. and the poor animals are left to suffer for our stupidity....

Please help stop the plight of welsh ponies and ban horse slaughter forever by getting these bill passed SB1176 and HR2966. Slaughter is inhumane and cruel plus the fact that people don't eat horsemeat I never will. Stop the war on horses for good!!!!

What wrong with this,there is no support for these Welsh ponies and people do so much cruelty to let them starve to death and abused them in other ways. There is not enough support to stop this from this country but the American People in the United States step in to help stop and save them from more cruelty and death.

I am so shocked and saddened to see what a terrible plight these beautiful Welsh ponies are in. I had no idea that it had come to this.Welsh ponies have been prized for generations and are an outstanding breed. They were always winners at Horse shows and gymkhanas and are versatile beyond measure. Many children treasure memories of a Welsh steed as their first pony. Is there not a Welsh pony breed society who can get this overbreeding stopped and get some kind of handle on this horrible situation. How sad this is and what a disgrace for the UK. Classic and sterling Welsh ponies need to be brought back from the brink before it's too late to save them..

I feel this is one of the saddest animal welfare stories I have had the misfortune to see. Traditionally these poor horses are being exploited by people who only care for the cash. They have not compassion for the animals. And I feel that they should not be consulted when an animal is found in distressing conditions. The animal must be liberated one way or the other humanely. And those persons prosecuted. And banned from keeping any animals.
Fly grazing & commoners rights are outmoded & should not be legitimate. This must stop.
