#3512012-01-31 15:52Please do not quietly go against the tax paying base on this decision, as was done last year. The views of the masses heavily outweigh the views of the 3 board members who voted against this last year. Thank you. |

#353 Re: Re:2012-02-08 05:06And you could go hang yourself! Despite what people might say to your face I doubt anyone would really care or miss you, I know I'd think the world would be a better place without you. Just something to think about. |

Everything you talked about is important but school comes first and if your too stupid to understand that then return to your gay jamboree and have some explain it to you! Dumb ass |

#3572012-02-11 03:47The School Board members of Cobb County who voted against the popular vote, are terrible examples of the democratic ideals that this nation was founded under, and set an atrocious example for the students of the county. |

#3582012-02-11 17:33All I heard from elementary teachers after the week off in October was how it took a week to get he kids back on their schedule. Obviously, that was a slip of the tongue because the next comment was that the balanced calendar was still a good idea because the teachers wouldn't have to use personal and sick days to use for doctor appts, etc. :-/ interesting. Second, in the south it does save money, not only utility, but also administrative, to take summers off. Thirdly, there are many studies out there that say there is very little difference between the two options. Actually, a balanced calendar helped minority children by a single percent. I don't know about other parents, , but my kids have to read and do math throughout the summer and lose no ground at all in the fall. Parents need to pick up their end of the stick here. I think for high schoolers, it may be a benefit, but not for elementary children. Personally, I hate the public school system, and have removed two of my three children, placing them in private. HUGE difference!! I'll wait until 3rd grade to place the other in private. Up to third grade, public is pretty harmless. All for summers off! It s a different type of learning, but learning nonetheless. |

Didn't realize I was unlucky due to my area of residence. ;). It's just another bandaid parents and officials are attempting to use on an issue that requires much more. Studies have proven that it s not cost effective or beneficial enough to replace the traditional calendar. It should be a parent responsibility to follow through with learning during the summer months! That means getting them reading materials, math materials, etc. My kids learn math during summer, and reading, and science, and art, and social studies. ALL through hands on....stores, books, libraries, local field trips. And honestly, I don't want my kids around some of the obviously "parentless" kids at an all year round school! Forget that. We all need a break fom those kids. |

#360 Re:2012-02-11 18:06Those board members were elected by us, based on their support of the traditional calendar. Next time, instead of blaming the board, maybe the so called "apathetic" voters need to get off their welfare supported asses and go vote. ;) |

#3612012-02-11 19:17Msnbc "The most recent poll, by Rasmussen Reports in July, found that adults opposed a year-round calendar by 63 percent to 31 percent — about the same ratio as other surveys taken in recent years. (The Rasmussen poll reported a margin of sampling error of 3 percentage points.)" Msnbc "Specifically, 71 percent of adults — parents and non-parents alike — said in the most recent poll that children learn valuable life lessons during long summer breaks, by going to camp or by taking temporary jobs. And at public hearings recently in Indianapolis, some parents complained that summer classes would complicate their family vacation plans." Msnbc ""Our little ones are learning language," McDonald said. "They go home and listen to their primary language of their home for three months and come back. And having not used English for three months — that poses another concern or problem."" Well, let's just give it up to the minorities. By 2030, Spanish will be our first language. This was Obamas brilliant idea. Socialism sneaks up on you like a frog in a pan of water....slowly heat up the pan, and by the time you realize what's happening, it's too late. |

#3632012-03-02 03:35I think it's sad that board member are more worried about business making money, than our kids education. It is a proven facts that kids should not be out for that long. If our kids education was #1 we would have year round school. That as a parent and taxer would show me that is country does care about my kids being #1. |

#3642012-03-05 03:49I support balanced calendar, but suggest to start school mid August, but end early June. August is a hotter month, plus it is easier for kids to go 2 weeks more in May-June, then start very early. |

#366 Re: honestly2012-05-08 00:10MAJORITY DON'T WANT THIS. Couple people like you, don't create a majority. I want my kids to enjoy the summer, and not go to school in the middle of HOT summer days. I want them to spend time in summer camps instead. What are they going to the at home in the middle of winter. 1 week of torture every month? You can't catch high education level by sweating the kids by hot sun. This discussion is still going on because some people wants to have CHEAP vacation. That's it. Let's be honest No one is thinking about the kids. Also I am a working mom and had hard time during the balanced calender. Public school meant for everybody - not just for stay home moms who are looking for cheap vacation. If you don't like the sytem go to private school please.
