The traffic has already seen and stopped for the lollipop man by the time the kids cross. At that point there is no need for Steve to use both hands to stop traffic as it is already stopped. He is clearly visible, as are the children and interacting with them encourages them to cross at the correct place safely.

How sad he can't do high fives with the children. Surely his friendliness encourages the children to cross the road at the safest place. Lollipop me/women are a very important part of a childs school day

Steve is fab, he helps encourage the kids to school. My little girl runs to him each morning to high five and it helps get us there on time. Steve is a genuine caring kind man, who is concerned about the childrens safety and welfare.

Steve is a wonderful lollypop man, he brings joy to all those around him every day. High fiving may seem like a silly thing to some but it is the highlight of my children's day to see Steve, give him a high five, cross the road safely and skip along with their day. How on earth do we explain this absurd new "directive" to the children who love Steve?

Health and safety police have surely got better ways to spend their time than this, ludicrous!

If the kids respect the role of the lollipop people who help to teach them the rules of road safety then that can only be a good thing, i've never had the pleasure of meeting Steve but i take the words of all these other people that he is a kind and courteous man who enjoys his job and the kids clearly like him too.

The motorists who regularly use this route at school time all know about Steve's high five and are happy to wait patiently while everyone safely crosses the road which Steve makes sure they do without dawdling. The parent who complained should have had a quiet word with Steve, not complained straight to his boss.

Having only been in this area recently, we have found Steve to be such a positive and refreshing person. His high fives put a smile on every childs and adults face. Seriously Warrington council, focus on the more important issues!

Although not local I have very strong opinions of the benefits of children using the crossing patrols and I'm sure that Steve's high fives and great attitude to his work would encourage kids to do just that (in fact my friends that are local have confirmed this) stopping him from this is just petty mindedness and another indication of the ridiculous nanny state that we are living in. Allow the kids to see some true individuality for goodness sakes

When we lived in the UK Steve was our lollipop man. My children loved him. He paid so much care and attention to the children and was always safety aware. It was clear how much he enjoyed his role. What a shame that we have to sign this petition because a high five has become a health and safety issue.

Im not from the area but i know about the situation and surely everyone would benefit from an approachable guy that the kids feel they can go to so that they can cross the road and be safe instead of crossing themselfs. I think its all going to far now.

Have Warrington Borough Council actually thought of the distress it will cause children, the children won't understand why Steve can't high five them anymore, children like routine and that's part of their daily routine, and something memories are made of! I find the whole complaint ludicrous

We meet our grandchildren from school and rely on Steve to get them across the road safely. They go to him because of his high fives.

Steve is a great lollipop man and my grandaughters trust him for crossing the road safely. High Fives are part of the way he does his job so well. They always look forward to seeing him. A reprimand is so unfair.
