#12013-12-15 17:05As a regular of over 20 years I feel very strongly that the Clifton should remain as public house. Pubs in general are a very important asset to social and cultural life in the community. Also, architecturally exceptional pubs like The Clifton are very much part of our heritage. They should be protected, not flogged off to the nearest developer at the drop of a hat. Pubs should count as highly worthy of conservation. Have the buyers gained permission for change of use? |

#22013-12-15 17:33It would be a travesty if this pub was converted into housing. I have very fond memories of it, and it brings so much character and joy to the surviving area |

#32013-12-15 20:06We must save one of the last pubs in St Johns Wood before they have all gone to property developers and another piece of our British heritage is lost forever. |

#42013-12-15 21:40Disgusting I have used this pub for 40 years it should not be allowed to be turned into housing |

#52013-12-16 19:45They're in ripping it apart right now. If they propose opening again as a pub, they're going about it in a very strange way. (Sun Dec 15th). |

#62013-12-17 00:20very sad indeed a really lovely pub and my favourite in the area right round the corner from my flat - this really cannot be allowed to happen these pubs are part of the neighbourhood and part of the charm and character that makes London so great! |

#9 Clifton2013-12-17 20:14The Clifton is one of the great pubs of North West London, a landmark, and an eccentricity in its location amid the villas of St John's Wood. A piece of Lndon dies if The Clifton goes, and shame on those who would hasten that (as if shame meant anything to them!) I don't sign petitions generally. I don't like crowds, but I've spent many a jolly hour in the Clifton, as have most of its patrons. Hands off! |

#102013-12-17 23:23Having visited the pub on many occasions as it's only 15 minutes walk away, it will be a great blow to all regular customers to lose such an important watering hole. There's always good beers on and the food is excellent. |

#132013-12-18 09:55I spent 21 years living in neighbouring Kilburn and the Clifton was a great place to go to. It was like escaping to a country pub hidden away in a posh back street of North London. Spent many happy hours at the Clifton - great food, great pub. Sorry to see greed and disregard for community once again raise its ugly head. |

#152013-12-18 11:02The area is already desperately short of places to eat and drink and to lose this popular pub would be a hammer blow. Please do not allow change of use -- it is not necessary. |

#172013-12-18 16:52It's a disgrace, The Clifton is a local institution, with a character all of its own. It has brought people together from all sectors of the neighbourhood, and it would be an irreplaceable loss. We intend to oppose its change of usage with every resource we can muster. |

#18 Richard Gent2013-12-18 22:50For a couple of years, I frequented this pub whilst working during the week in London. It was well run, had character, a proud history, a bloody good pub quiz, fine beer and a worthy menu. Sadly, some rich, selfish a@@@hole wants to change it's use and in doing so, stick two fingers up at the community where they will be living. That should not be allowed. A few possible blockers for our would be developer....is the building listed or of significant historical or cultural interest that might require a more justified application for change of use? Can a public consultation be demanded with regards to the change of use of the building.Has any thought been given to a cooperative buying the property and running it as a pub themselves? Best of luck to you all in saving The Clifton. |

#192013-12-19 08:43I've known this lovely pub (in a not well pubbed area) for about four years now. Its a place full of charm and turning it into a house would be a travesty. |

#212013-12-19 16:11This is a historic building. This former hunting lodge is, or was, a pub in disguise. Edward VII had the Clifton declared a hotel so he could pursue his paramours without being accused of doing so in a pub - we cannot throw history away like this. It makes the street unique. |

#242013-12-19 19:30This is a popular and busy pub and also one with a quiet pleasant garden. We have already lost two such pubs and cannot afford to lose another. It is a well-known amenity of this neighbourhood. |

#252013-12-19 20:53If this is allowed to go through, it will be a travesty and make a mockery of the councils planning ideal to retain the feel of an area. |
