#51 Re:2014-01-27 19:57Hardly surprising that the pub has failed? They alienated the local population and their friends by not letting school mum's part in their car park. Did they entice them in for coffee's after school drop off and before collection? No, they didn't. After the St Peter's School summer fair, everyone schlepped off to the Bull where they laid on bouncy castles etc for the kids....how to run a business...... The Tower Arms in the summer stinks, literally, as they appear to fail to get someone to empty their soakaway. Rank,,,,,, |

#52 Tower Arms2014-01-28 18:09I think the current owners bought it with a view to running down the business and then could use this as an excuse to turn it into a house. The people who bought the barn conversion next door were told the pub wouldn't be there much longer! I must admit to buy a conversion next to a pub and then complain about the noise staggers me. Are these people completely stupid? |

#542014-02-04 08:13It will be a great pity if the Tower Arms not longer exists as a public house. I can go back as far as Granny King ruining it. A large part of myYouth. A meeting place after choir. It was always a central part of the village. Please think again.... |

#562014-02-13 15:52This is not just a vital part of the local village community, people from all over visit the wonderful country park and often pop in to this pub during their visit. Great gardens, steeped in history, how tragic to do what would be so easy - redevelop it. Keep it, restore it, be proud of it. |

#572014-02-13 16:54This pub is an amenity of regional importance. Beyond adding to village life it adds amenity to the nearby country park. Even in these harsh economic times, if it were better managed (and probably better championed by the local authorities) it could easily be a thriving business again and, once it goes, it will not come back. |

#582014-03-01 15:51it would be a great shame if the Tower Arms was no longer a pub . have many good memories of time spent there . Under a better management could be once again a thriving business. No to redevelopment, |

#612014-03-10 11:19I first went to this pub when I was 2 weeks old, I'm now 38. Should definitely stay a pub......although saying that if it does get turned into a retirement home at least I could retire there and complete my life circle? |

#62 Elegant2014-03-10 19:52This is an elegant, historic and prominent building and a landmark, forming an integral part of the village. It is close to the Weald park, making for a lovely walk followed by a pint or meal. It is one of the few country pubs/inns left in the area, as several others have closed their doors. |

#642014-03-12 17:47We have visited the Tower Arms for many many years to drink , eat , socialise and play Petanque - it would be a great loss to the area to see this pub cease to be . |

#652014-03-12 17:57Please take this pub BACK to what it was -it was always a busy pub - it has lost a lot of its charm and prices are far too high - please return it to the area and do not let it be developed. |

#682014-03-27 18:37This is a typically English village: Church (with bell-ringers), cricket field and club, country park and pub (or no pub if planning goes through). |

#692014-05-02 02:18A pub I have used for many years. A valuable resource for locals and visitors alike and a part so South Weald history. The Kings would be turning in their grave. |

#722014-09-17 12:45This village means so much to me - I lived in Rochetts Lodge during the war and went to school here. This building is just so special South Weald would not be the same without it as a pub. |

#74 It's easy, just think....2015-07-29 17:48...wall the garden in sound proof fencing as a requirement, have strict garden closure times (<22:00), have the pub heavily focused at the food/gastropub market (think The Bell, Horndon), last orders 23:00, no loud music on the premesis, community discounts and off-peak parking permission from schools, removal of front beer tables for additional parking (look terrible anyway). Why not an online/social media campaign (include Jamie Oliver who filmed there) called 'Come Run My Local' to try and entice a professional, innovative, food focused management team, potentially with a govt grant. Niches could center on weekend lunches with a focus on game (historical hunting connections) and hearty fare for South Weald park visitors, can they actually source the deer culled in the local parks (I've seen them, they look delicious!) ?? This is the perfect building for someone looking to run a community integrated (think school fetes, South Weald Park Venison Sausage Stand, Christmas Church Mince Pie Dispensary), resource rich, high local market spend pub in an idilic setting. It just needs 'careful' selection and management (oh and please, not another poser's palace) but there are literally hundereds of ambitious people looking for a spot like this. This building is an establishement to be cherished, we shouldn't ask 'what would I do without The Tower Arms' we should ask 'what would the community of South Weald be without The Tower Arms'. Everyone in the area has a memory of this place, mine's a shandy, aged 6 (very naughty) in the beer garden bought from my father and distributed to me with a 'shhh' and a wink. Let's ensure The Tower Arms is part of the community forever. Jamie, if you're reading this, 'come 'elp a fella out would you geeza??' :-) |
