#12014-02-11 04:29How ridiculous focus your time on something more relevant rather than a great little well designed cafe! |

#32014-02-11 04:57The yardsticks are a fantastic addition to the facade of this building and provide a wonderful talking point full of memories of yesteryear. They are unique and artistic and should definitely be allowed to remain as an integral fixture at John Gorilla |

#42014-02-11 05:07Oh please. Moreland council has nothing better to do that carry on with this rubbish. The rulers are fantastic and unique. Why don't they stop people building some of the eye sores that aren't "in keeping" with the streets of Brunswick/Coburg!!! |

#52014-02-11 05:25Didn't they have yardsticks back in the days when the building was built, surely they are being too pedantic over something so minor. It gives more character to the building. |

#7 Council trying to justify its existance?????2014-02-11 06:36Another fine example of a council trying to justify its existence. Get out of your office and enter the real world! |

#82014-02-11 06:43I live opposite john gorilla and love the unique rulers outside. It has brought me and all the people I have taken to the cafe with a lot of joy. I don't believe they should have to remove them. |

#9 John Gorilla rulers2014-02-11 07:18This uniqueness of John Gorilla cafe should be encouraged as it adds colour and personality to the venue and surroundings.....not discouraged . Over zealous Council justifying its existence and forcing more useless expense on ratepayers |

#10 John Gorilla Cafe2014-02-11 07:20Moreland council, don't you dare remove those yardsticks from our local cafe, I love them and I think they are a fantastic idea. If you want to do something useful for the community clean up the derelict buildings and streets through out Moreland City and leave our cafe alone, it's one of the very few buildings that actually has style!!! Throw away your out dated rules and regulations on what a building should have looked like 100 years ago and get with the times and for once listen to the people who live in your city. Without us there is no council!!! |

#112014-02-11 08:43Perhaps the Moreland City council should be concerned with more important things and stop being pedantic. Councils need to realise they work for the rate payers, not the other way around. |

#142014-02-11 09:14Wow - perhaps the council should focus on the things that really matter. Like adequate street lighting, filling pot holes, repairing footpaths and cleaning the public toilets.....! Removing the sticks is really silly. |

#152014-02-11 09:25I believe John Gorilla should be given some room to express themselves, after all they have helped restore a decaying building and breathed life into the immediate area. C'mon Moreland nothing to see, just walk away. |

#162014-02-11 09:44Let's have a quick look at the framework for Moreland City Council's Arts and Culture Strategy: Vision: Cultivate a creative city where artists are valued and there are diverse opportunities to experience, participate in and be inspired by arts and cultural activities Objective 1: Strengthen, develop and support creative spaces and cultural assets in Moreland Objective 2: Present, facilitate and partner a range of arts and culture experiences Objective 3: Build and support the capacity of the community to develop arts and culture initiatives Objective 4: Value, acknowledge and advocate for artists and the contribution of the arts to Moreland The Council needs to abide by these principals and support creativity in the area. |

#192014-02-11 13:15Moreland council; happy to tear up the bluestone laneways and replace them with concrete though... |

#202014-02-11 13:20I live across the street and John Gorilla has added to the character of Pearson St. The yardsticks are an interesting contrast to the old buildings and are very much in the Brunswick spirit. |

#212014-02-11 13:50I'm a local to the cafe and it looks fantastic. Moreland council, focus your energy on the more important issues of the area. I've dealt with the council on a current home renovation, and they are clueless. |

#232014-02-12 00:40This is a small business at its best, and should be congratulated on saving the building. |

#242014-02-12 03:09Our family calls John Gorilla 'the ruler' cafe. I wish Moreland Council would focus more on not allowing unsustainable multi storey development than minor issues of 'facade'! |
