It is unacceptable that a developed, civilized country in the 21st century kills healthy animals because they are surplus to requirements. It is inhumane, and we do not have the right to choose to end these innocent animals' lives. We should, instead, educate the owners or potential owners to make sure that people only get a pet if they are sure they can look after it. We also need to clamp down heavily on breeders, and encourage people to get dogs and cats from rescue centres.

If steps were taken to drastically reduce the number of breeders in this country then the rescue centres wouldn't have to do this.   There are far too many legal breeders as well as all the owners who can't be bothered to neuter their pets.

Overbreeding is the real problem not the euthanasia.   It must surely be the last resort.

Well said.   Far too many owners are letting their dogs have puppies rather than paying for the neutering.
