#272014-04-30 05:39I know so any people who use fairy croft and for some it is a real life line. The centre & the people who run it and offer help, classes and advice have been there for years and it runs very effectively... Quite simply if it isn't broken then don't fix it! |

#28 Truth Translation for the "NEW MULTICENTRE" press release . . .2014-04-30 07:19Recently a County Council press release announced plans for a "New Multicentre" for Saffron Walden. Using the whole ex Social Care building solely for adult education would help to fulfil a growing need for local training and lifelong learning facilities. However, the space within the same building proposed for youth groups (if moved from FairyCroft House) is a claustrophobic basement with low ceilings and lacking daylight. Serious health and safety concerns have been voiced that the Social Care building is totally unsuitable for use by youth groups. |

#302014-05-01 19:38A building with personality where groups can meet up, Fairycroft House helps learning (informal and formal) and adds flavour to the town's sense of community. Please be kind. Please be wise. Please act with foresight. Please keep the Croft! |

#312014-05-01 20:36The croft is a great resource that will be impossible to recreate if lost. And that will be a loss to all of the local area. Hold onto it! Dickon B. |

#322014-05-01 21:38Absolutely loved the croft as a teenager. Had some great laughs I'll never forget. Such an important asset for young people in this town. We really need to keep this open!! |

#34 Find it in your heart2014-05-02 17:05Our child goes to a special needs club every week held at the Croft. The building is perfect for clubs and groups as there are different activity zones - one side of the building is great for letting off steam and exercise and the other side for quieter activities. Our child looks forward to going all week as they have very few local friends due to having to go to a special school a long distance away. This is a chance for local friendships and the staff are wonderful. We know they would feel devastated if the Croft closes. The tiny basement with hardly any daylight next door being proposed as an alternative to the Croft bears absolutely no comparison to the fantastic disability friendly premises at the Croft. We hope that people find it in their hearts to keep this wonderful building for now and for the future. We need social contact. We need hope. We need to find it in our hearts to look out for people who need extra support. |

#35 Please don't waste huge amounts already spent on refurbishment2014-05-04 18:21Uttlesford is the largest district in Essex, and Saffron Walden its largest town. In the last decade Uttlesford district has lost three centres in Takeley, Newport and Wicken Bonhunt. It would be a shame to witness further erosion of facilities for an expanding population. Clarance House includes a Library and Adult Learning Centre, enhancing quality of life, providing learning and social opportunities and helping to bond communities. The central community building Fairycroft has served Saffron Walden well as a base for learning and recreation for decades. In recent years it has had very large sums spent on modernising, improving access and redecoration throughout. It would be a great shame if all this public investment was wasted. The building next door would be a very meagre substitute. Need is increasing for innovative, resourceful approaches to make best use of existing community facilities around Uttlesford and retain them for the benefit of future generations. Dunmow Community and Centre and Library was also said to be under threat of closure, but was given a reprieve. In addition to popular youth club evenings, day time use was expanded to provide special educational services. Perhaps this day time use goes some way towards reducing some of the (necessary but considerable) transport bills which then in turn frees up budgets elsewhere. |

#37 Wanted = Foresight + Wisdom + Kindness!2014-05-04 18:32Whilst talking with a gentleman last week he mentioned how much a course (held at the Croft) that his wife attended had helped her and how it had “changed her life”. It is this sort of comment which brings into focus just how much community building have to offer growing populations. ‘The Croft’ has provided a consistent, well loved, well used venue for numerous groups for many decades. It is well located for easy access in the heart of town. Hopefully, foresight will be shown regarding the needs of an expanding population and the building will be able to continue to provide these valuable community services. |

#38 well done2014-05-08 15:20As a localboy we used to go to tournamentsclubs and studying which were all there when we were youngsters. It is great place near the middleof town for everyone and still use today. Friends that know about history said that 2 Saffron Walden mayors used to live there and also a man who knew a lot about plants. Really good to read that local grownups and youngsters are working hard to keep it for town. Well done good luck and kepp up all thegod work. |

#39 Activities and exercise space needed!2014-05-20 17:13There is very little space in the old social services building - it is very cramped with little daylight - no good for exercise and activities. With all the talk about childhood obesity it is another reason why this growing town needs more community space! |

#40 Re:2014-05-27 15:30great comment and very true - when places lose community meeting places they lose their soul and people become more isolated, lonely and unhappy. People miss out on many opportunities to make positive connections and help progress. |

#42 Media career start2014-06-01 08:56I went to Rainer media projects at The Croft. It helped me get into film making, media and acting and onto bigger things. Please keep the Croft for other people to have fun, to learn and to make friends |

#43 Music2014-06-01 08:58I went to loads of music and youth events at the Croft. If it hadn’t been for going to the Croft I wouldn’t have got interested in making music and gone on to make it a success. Some of the best times ever spent there. |
