Re-Open Yewtree Road with Traffic Calming Measures
Yewtree Road had been closed for covid lockdown related reasons. Now the lock downs have ended it has continued to be shut off.
Problems caused by closure:
Increase in traffic on Burscough Road to County Road Junction.
Increase in traffic up Burscough Street onto bad diversion turn.
Increase in traffic on the narrower Scarisbrick Street & blind turn.
Increase in traffic on Green lane past kids play field and air cadets.
Increase in traffic on Hayfield junction next to County Road shops.
Increase in traffic on the narrower Hants Lane to Southport road.
Increase in traffic at the already dangerous five ways junction.
Increase in traffic jams, longer idling, causing more air pollution.
Increase in pedestrians walking down centre of Yewtree road.
Drive ways blocked, side roads/access restricted due to diversion.
Restriction of access for people to and from local shops.
Emergency vehicle access restricted could mean life or death.
Yewtree Road has never more been a rat run neither a main cycle route or pedestrian route. Maybe a slight increase in the above but that's what happens when you have an increase in population and a retail park built near by.
Lancashire County Council needs to consult the residents of all roads involved before going ahead with any measures and at the very least trialling measures during peak traffic flows to get a reasonable idea of problems caused by implementing any change.
2 Points:
A possible idea along Yewtree road to calm traffic would be a chicane. Instead of full closure.
A further possible idea would be to put four way lights and pedestrian crossings where Yewtree Road meets County Road. Instead of the Toucan crossing.
But those two points should be trialled as mentioned above and all residents notified of any trial.
If you agree please sign the petition and forward to anyone else affected by the closure.
After living in Ormskirk for more than 52 years, I still don't understand why measures are made by the majority of councillors, who do not live in the areas affected by these token changes.
Most important along with signing the petition. Please also write separately with your Objections to the proposal of the closure of Yew Tree Road to
