My sister was one of the fortunate ones to have her life spared that day... for all the families and her and her family to have suffered at the expense of a knowing full aware of the his actions person like Joe which he should be tried for his heinous crimes that he knowing did .. Trial by jury to convict him of Murder plain and simple he is a criminal, a murder!!Nina Cavey (Halethorpe, 2023-04-10)

I’m signing this because I believe the defendant should be held criminal responsible and should serve a life sentence in prison. 3 of my co-workers lost there life’s on that day another was rushed to the icu with multiple gunshot wounds along with a police officer in attempt to stop the defendant. These men and there families deserve justice and what the courts have provided so far doesn’t even come close.Hunter Schlotterbeck (Little Orleans, 2023-04-10)

I’m am signing this because regardless of one’s mental state you are and should always be responsible for your actions no exceptions if you feel as though you are not well there are many resources available for you to reach out for help before you get to a point of taking innocent lives. What really has happened to our justice system this man deserves to never see the lite of day just as the innocent lives he took never will.Toma Price (Mont Alto, 2023-04-10)

He should not be free while families suffer because of his actions. At a minimum he should spend the rest of his life in prison. I believe in the death penalty in cases like this where there is no question, he is guilty without a doubt.Vince Nee (Hagerstown, 2023-04-10)

These family's deserve justice..He was fully aware and chose to make the decision to do what he did now the families deserve to see him rot in prison for the rest of his life...so at least the families can live with out fear knowing he's back on the streets 🤬🤬Kim Blevins (Clear Spring, 2023-04-10)

Cj was one of my closest friends growing up. He shared hunting memories with me of my dad. He was so much more, a father, a brother, a son. Even more than that.He was there when I got stuck in a treestand. He was there for me through my dark times. He was always there, with a smile and when required a swift kick in the ass. He still is in the memory of all of us lucky enough to have known him. So, I’ll be wherever I need to be to bring justice to us all who have paid with the lives of fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, and friends.
Jeffrey Farmer (Myersville, 2023-04-11)

Anyone who takes a life let alone 3 an tries to kill more including a Maryland State Trooper should never see the light of day ever!! I’ve always believe you take a life you pay with your life. Why should he be allowed to walk among us in public when the people he killed can never do that again nor their family’s will never be able to see, hear their voice again.Jen Hargett (Cavetown, 2023-04-11)
#263
To allow a plea deal for a person who clearly committed premeditated triple murder is a TRAVESTY of our justice system!!!Kevin Steiner (Smithsburg, 2023-04-11)

I am signing this because what is being done here IS NOT OKAY! That killer should never be allowed to be released, he should be in jail for the rest of his life. Not only did he shoot and kill my brother he shot and killed other men with families that loved them. It was a cold-blooded murder. The killer came to work one day and shot his coworkers. There are no words for this. This is absolutely DISGUSTING!! No matter if you are ill or not there is no excuse FOR KILLING PEOPLE. If you let this man free, how do you know he won't do it again? If he is "ILL" then why in the hell would you release him into the world. THIS IS NOT OKAY AND WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS!!! HE BELONGS TO STAY IN JAIL FOR LIFE!Breahna Rowe (Smithsburg, 2023-04-11)
#274
Because people need to be held accountable for their actions. We need true justice in this country. Let’s do better, and as far as contacting our elected representatives (THEY are so out of touch with the real working people of America it’s not funny) I have reached out to the government officials on different issues with no results whatsoever!!!!!😡Don Wolford (Foley, 2023-04-11)
#275
The planning and execution of this atrocity do not support the defense's argument that the alleged murderer has a mental deficiency. There is not a logical way to the conclusion he is not criminally responsible for his actions.John Frantz (Hagerstown, 2023-04-11)

I cannot fathom any justifiable reason for this person to ever feel freedom again. A small percentage of people in the world are lucky enough to live free in a country like this, he does not deserve to be one of them.Jeremiah Keller (Myersville, 2023-04-11)

This is absurd!!!Goes t show you Evil is Good!!!
And Good is Evil!!!

This person knew enough at the time to take multiple guns and multiple clips to work, walk to his car and get the guns, kill 3 men, shoot a 4th, shoot an officer while attempting what seemed to be suicide by cop...but now 10 months later is not responsible for his actions. What is to stop him from doing this again when he is released? People want stricter gun control but what we need is stricter punishment for those to use guns to do harm. This man has earned life in prison. We want justice for the men at Columbia Machine and their families.Vickie Adkins (Waynesboro, 2023-04-12)

It's not right that someone who committed murder should be allowed to go free no matter what circumstances. He is guilty of murder and his lawyers should also be disbarred because it shows money talks and they will do anything to make a buck.Anderson Chris (Waynesboro, 2023-04-12)
#320
I am signing because this person, planned and took action to shoot and kill 3 people. Also open fired on a Maryland State Trooper with no regards to anyone's lives that were in the area. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prisonMidori Rudisill (Hagerstown, 2023-04-12)

This is ridiculous! He needs to serve prison time regardless!
Get him help at mental health facility, and then send him to prison for life!
He does not deserve to be free! What happens next time he "snaps"? Is he going to double or triple the amount of innocent victims?!
Patty Bercaw (Waynesboro, 2023-04-13)
#337
I’m signing because there shouldn’t even be a discussion about if this creature should be given a plea deal. He shot and killed innocent people, he should spend the rest of his life in prison. Even if he has mental issues that still doesn’t give him the right to end innocent peoples lives. So for that he SHOULD NOT have the option for a plea deal.Kelsey Ivascu (Falling Waters, 2023-04-13)
#338
I feel that he should be punished by jail time for the murder of 3 innocent people.Shannon Feather (Waynesboro, 2023-04-13)
#339
It's not right, he should be sentenced to pay for what he didDarlene Bakner (Waynesboro, 2023-04-13)
#340
I'm signing because this man knew what he was doing when he killed those men/ fired that gun. He doesn't deserve to be a free man. Mental health or not having a gun and shooting innocent hard working people just because you want too isn't something that just happens. You plan that and he followed through with it. Being free on good behavior for something like this shouldn't be a option, if so more people behind bars would have that option and they don't and some are behind bars for things they didn't do but this man did do it and shouldn't be free or see the light of day.Heather Beaver (Waynesboro, 2023-04-13)
#344

#349
This was an act of pure evil. This act was premeditated. This man held a job. He held a valid drivers license. He worked. He obeyed traffic laws. How is it NOW that he has killed that he is deemed insane? He knew to run away from his crimes to try and not get caught! He shot and attempted to kill police to NOT get caught! He knew exactly what he was doing! This is the most unjust ruling our justice system could ever give! I, as a life long citizen of Washington County, am simply appalled at this ruling!Teresa Martin (Smithsburg, 2023-04-13)
#355
He needs to be in prison the rest of his life he knew his actions now its time to payTimothy Golliday (Smithsburg, 2023-04-13)

THIS is WHY people do these HORRIBLE THINGS!! They get slapped on their hands- and out in no time ! 💔😭. They want to plead mental and then it’s even a faster street to freedom! This needs to STOP! He needs to spend his life behind bars till this death - AND THIS IS EVEN TOO GOOD for this POS ! 😡Prayers 🙏🏼 to these families as THEY HAVE NO CHOICE!!!!

Mental health should be addressed, but this person obviously knew what he did was wrong as he fled the scene and shot at police. Lock him up for his crimes.Kim Harbaugh (Cascade, 2023-04-14)
#372
Smithsburg is my neighboring community. This criminal should never be able to walk freely again. He took the lives of not only the victims but there family and friends who loved them dearly. He also stole the innocence of a small community where humble everyday people work hard everyday to make a living to support their loved ones.John Wetzel (Waynesboro, 2023-04-14)
#373
I am signing this petition because the person who shot and killed 3 innocent men and wounded two others should be punished for what he did. A plea deal should not be accepted for this hideous crime. He knew what he was doing and is deserving of the consequences. Our judicial system is to protect our citizens, and letting this creep walk is ridiculous. What message does that send to other felons, they can do whatever they want and they can cry mental illness and walk. What would the verdict be if it was a member of the courts family that was murdered in cold blood. My guess is he would be locked up forever. This is so wrong and if this happens it just proves our judicial system is for the crooks and not the victims!Kimberly Tribett (Smithsburg, 2023-04-14)

We were traveling to see our grandsons baseball game and came upon the area of where this man was caught. Had we been minutes earlier we may have been involved in and accident or the gun fire. Also the initial shooting took place less than a mile from my grandsons baseball field.Taking the lives of co-workers is not acceptable and should be punished to the fullest extent. This took planning on the killers part to accomplish this. Life in prison is not even enough in my book. Thank you for taking the time to read my brief statement.
