We can do so much better than a virtual grad for the class of 2020

My son is graduating this year

I think with some creativity we could still make the 2020 grad something special even under the current guidelines.

Patti Nielson (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#12

Our graduating sons and daughters have worked so hard to get to this moment where they can celebrate with a traditional style ceremony while still following the guidelines set forth by AHS. They deserve to be able to walk across a stage to get their diplomas, wear their formal wear that some have been planning for and purchased for long time, and ultimately feel that moment of “This is it, I did it” . Anything virtual would not allow any of these things to happen. Please consider an outdoor event where all of these things can occur and still be safe at the same time.

Tanya Nemirsky (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#15

I DO NOT want a VIRTUAL grad. Even if it has to be in the summer or next school year. We want a REAL graduation. xoxo Parker Hubl

I am a Bvhs alumni and I feel they should be able to walk that stage.
I graduated in 2007 and I still remember that moment, it’s something we work so hard for and we are very proud to walk! They worked so hard to be able to walk the stage and turn their tassel they deserve this!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Christy Cole (Calgary, 2020-05-17)

#18

My daughter and her classmates deserve to have the graduation ceremony that they have worked very hard for. An outdoor ceremony in the football field would give plenty of room to “socially distance” ourselves from others . Please give them the opportunity to celebrate this milestone.

Courtney Hubl (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#29

they deserve a grad

cara stewart (cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#31

I want my little brother to know how it feels to graduate! No one should be stripped of that joy!

Kya Gehrke (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#34

I think there is way to have a real grad ceremony and still follow Alberta Health Services guidelines and restrictions for COVID 19.

Kris Nielson (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#36

I am signing due to the fact these kids deserve a final celebration for their hard work they have put in. Despite this unprecedented time we are having at the moment, there can be a modified celebration at this time for the kids to graduate. It is not their fault, and we should as a parent and as a school board try our best to make these kids feel as the end of the year is the beginning of some thing else to look forward to. They are the future of this world, with a heavy load upon them.

sharon Burn (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#38

I’m signing because my grandson is in the graduating class & I feel they should have some kind of ceremony for them. This seems like the most appropriate option given the circumstances.

Maureen Smith (Esterhazy, 2020-05-17)

#41

Cochrane's other two HS's are holding appropriately distanced and safe IN-PERSON grad ceremonies - why are BV graduates being denied that same honour?

Richard Smith (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#48

I’m signing because my sister is a 2020 graduate and she deserves a graduation.

Kacie Hodel (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#69

My sister goes here and the grads deserve their ceremony!

Holly Mann (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#73

My daughter is graduating and doing a virtual grad robs them of a right of passage. We could do mini ceremonies allowing our grads a real graduation. Even waiting until later would be better then a virtual grad.

Jacqueline Smith (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#76

They deserve the grad they want.

Erin Gale (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#77

there are some special days that as a parent we look forward to
Your child’s first steps
Their first words
Graduation
Watching them get married
Grandchildren
I feel that not only are you robbing the graduation class of 2020
You are also robbing parents being so proud and being involved with this milestone
Please allow the bow valley high School graduation class of 2020 to walk their stage
Congratulations bow valley high graduation class of 2020
From a proud parent that watch this special occasion in 2007 and 2008

Lesley Farmer (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#103

Why not? These kids deserve to be recognized and as long as social distancing can be followed, why shouldn't they be allowed to do so?

Brittany O'Hara (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#104

Every graduate deserves a grad

Avery Matson (Cochrane, 2020-05-17)

#108

if there is any opportunity for these seniors to experience walking the stage and we can still follow proper health restrictions i think that we as a community/ school should be making it happen. My son is in BVHS but not a senior yet. U would want him to kiss out.

Sherrie Comstock (cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#109

Many of us have worked long and hard, putting in sleepless nights and restless days, to finally get to where we are today. Many of us, too, wish to feel the sense of accomplishment by walking the stage. Not a Zoom call to say goodbye.

Quinn Dolan (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#110

I want to see my son, Kolby Thompson, graduate and walk the stage with all his fellow classmates!

Shannon Beagle (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#117

Not having a grad would be like not getting the Stanley cup playing in the NHL all year.

Jennifer Maa (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#121

I’m a BVHS alumni and my graduation is still something I look back and reminisce on. The circumstances are less than favourable but that shouldn’t affect this years graduates from getting something they’ve been working their whole school career for. I struggled with mental illness in high school and buying my grad dress and looking forward to the big day was definitely something that made the light at the end of the tunnel a little brighter.

Christa Vandersanden (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#123

I think that every graduate should be able to feel the joy of walking across a stage and being in person with family and friends to celebrate the reward of a a hard earned diploma after 12 years of studies.

Sylvie Legary (Ottawa, 2020-05-18)

#130

My friends deserve a grad

Brooke White (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

Paige White (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

I would like a grad ceremony that isn’t online this year even if it is in august or later in the year.

Devon Kelly (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

Everyone who has put in the hard work to graduate deserves a graduation

Lynne Gray (Winnipeg, 2020-05-18)

We as parents, would love to see our graduates recognized for their achievements. It’s such a milestone for them and an honour! Let’s find a way to celebrate our young people!

Marla Shoemaker (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

High school is one of the hardest times of life to make it through. They’ve done it, don’t take the celebration away

Anna Garcia (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#156

As a parent to a 2018 and 2022 graduate of Bow Valley I would hope that my kids would be given every possible opportunity to a suitable way to honour their achievements. A virtual grad isn’t good enough now that some restrictions have been lifted. We owe these students more.

Kandace Gerhardi (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#160

This should happen for all 3 high schools in Cochrane!

Kayley MacLennan (Cochrane, 2020-05-18)

#162

I’m signing because everyone should have the privilege to attend this once in a lifetime opportunity that you look forward to for years and years. If we take this away now, this is something they’ll never get back. Be brave and be bold. Be different and think outside the box.

I’m signing because I am a grad twelve now Valley student and I have been working very hard my entire high school career in hopes of celebrating my hard work and the work of my peers with grad.
