I’m signing this petition because the cruelty of animal in this country poisoned dogs they could find a better way to handle this situation by a sterilization program

Hemma Hoffman (Victoria, 2023-04-09)

#8

This is a travesty - causing wholly unnecessary pain and suffering not just to animals but also to many many people who, unlike the perpetrators, care about animals. To witness this abhorrent act would put most people off visiting your Island and is counter productive. Worldwide condemnation is needed. Find a better way than mass Slaughter to the innocent animals.

Felicity Felicity Haskins (Guernsey, 2023-04-09)

#9

Am strongly against animal cruelty!!

Juliette Jackson (Victoria, 2023-04-09)

#14

The act carried out by the authorities is inhuman and barbaric. I was born and lived in Seychelles until I was 11 years of age and I refuse to visit until this issue is resolved. These barbaric acts are now known world wide and Seychelles is not being looked at as paradise anymore.

Veronique Babczynski (Adelaide, 2023-04-09)

#15

Killing animals it's not a good decision to make to get rid of stray dogs..

Angel Gedeon (Victoria, 2023-04-09)

#18

It's barbaric and cruel in the extreme.

Austin White (Durham, 2023-04-09)

I don't believe that killing animals should be our response to them as a nuisance. If the roles were reversed, would we do the same to each other?

I simply cannot stand by this barbaric act of extreme animal cruelty. This is not the Seychelles I know and love! We have and continue to work very hard to promote Seychelles internationally, always in the best light possible, and this is something we cannot support or condone.

In top international tourists establishments around the world dogs are welcomed with open arms and catered for as patrons in 5 star restaurants and hotel suites. Here in Seychelles, our tourists wake up to blood on the streets - our poor abandoned and homeless dogs made to suffer the cruelest of deaths in the most excruciating painful way possible. Labeled simply as a “nuisance” or “inconvenience”. For those who don’t know death by poison is a slow process, one of extreme pain where after at least 30 minutes of violently seizing and shaking, death is a welcomed relief.

Mahatma Gandhi said it best, ““The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” It seems that we have an awful long way to go here in Seychelles. A tropical so called “paradise” that is indeed a total hell for dogs. We have to do better. We need to do better. For the sake of these beautiful, innocent and sentient creatures as well as ourselves and our country, Seychelles. We implore you to make drastic changes with our animals before tourists decide to no longer support and visit Seychelles. The rest of the world are all dog lovers, we need to catch up! Quickly.

Roxanne Bennett (Glacis, 2023-04-09)

#29

It’s just terrible and I cried seeing these pictures cause I love my dogs too and how do we explain this to our children..

Audrey d'Offay (Mahe, 2023-04-09)

#32

This is a disgusting and barbaric way to address the issue of stray dogs. It is a painful and horrible death for them. This is the action of a third-world country. Putting out poison is also very irresponsible. It can be taken up by any animal and possibly even children. I am now afraid to take my dogs out for a walk in case they happen to eat some of this poison.

Jane Hardy (Mahe, 2023-04-09)

#33

I cannot understand why the Seychelles allows mass poisoning of their stray dogs who die an agonising death!

Catherine Meyer (London, 2023-04-09)

Andrew Garner (Prenton, 2023-04-09)

#43

The poisoning of animals to cull the population is a cruel and unnecessary method. More humane methods are readily available, where and after all attempts have been made to re-home an animal.

Annalise St Ange (Anse Royale, 2023-04-09)

#46

I am devastated and sickened by the cruel gross poisoning of defenceless dogs over our islands.

Elke Wetzel (Berg, 2023-04-09)

#64

dear people of seychelles...your good image is fading slowly but surely..no one believes the story about paradise anymore...only a month ago the story/truth about the drug problem...now the story about the poisoning of dogs.. .our press is only busy with you in a negative sense...more and more tourists see the problems you are trying to "hide" (like the garbage dump 200m in the background of the most photographed beach in the world (Anse Source d'Argent). ..it really is time to take care of such things...until recently you were a paradise for me and the next vacation was already being planned (fifth)...hardly a week later you are just a dot on the world map. ..that's how fast it goes...don't do anything else, the whole thing will have a bad end...I still love you simple people..greetings to my friends and Happy Easter!

translation of the headline(Croatian Newsletter ):WE ARE THE WORST!'

Heroine hell in a tropical paradise that Croats also adore: 'Even 10 percent of the population is addicted!'

Drug dealing is essentially almost a cottage industry in which the whole community is involved

Igor Barth (Munich, 2023-04-09)

#67

So killing animals for problems caused by humans is not only terribly cruel but very very hypocritical. I have lived in many cities that handle people not spaying or neutering their dogs by requiring all dogs have licenses and the fees for unfixed animals was much higher. The money from licenses could be used to finance alternative methods as capturing and sterilizing all strays.

Lynn Hochstetter (Eugene, 2023-04-09)

#69

I am disgusted what is happening in a place called "paradise"

Jessica Eder (Vienna, 2023-04-09)

#70

This is murder in a place called "paradise" and this has to stop immediately

Gertrude Keck (Vienna, 2023-04-09)

#71

Poisoning is not a solution to the stray dog problem! ... instead we can plan regular and free sterilisation campaign, increase awareness on animal welfare, remove/reduce taxes on animal feed so people on low income don't have to give up their pets when cost of living goes up, support setting up more no kill shelters ( south mahe, praslin, la digue), regulate/reduce dog breeding

Concern for poisoning dogs

Anna Saint Ange (Brisbane, 2023-04-09)

#74

I disagree with poisoning- this is a barbaric act and has to be stopped!

Erika Valkovic (Prague, 2023-04-09)

#78

Can't accept these crual acts on innocent animals. These animals were more human than us all and all the animals who are susceptible to eat this poisoned bait can be cats / dogs / birds/ and if rats eat poisoned food, go to die somewhere and is eaten by another dog/ cat , it's gonna die too .
It's a massacre, and we declare a war until the government stop being monstruous, until it stops giving this unacceptable education to people.
Imagine a kid normalizing this.
Imagine a loving animals kid seeing this disaster in the street by going to the beach . It could be his own.
Please never forget they were here before us, and that they have more love to share than anyone else on earth

Manon Bottini (Nice, 2023-04-09)

#79

For the government to put an end to Cruelty to Animals in Seychelles.
The government has to lead by examples.
There need to be an investigation for barbaric cruelty committed to the defenseless dogs and whoever is responsible to be held to account for its actions.

I am so traumatised and disgusted at the way animals in the Seychelles are treated. Stersalisation, Micro-chipping and registration are the only way forward, certainly NOT POISONING!! This is barbaric and an agonising death for animals. This MUST stop, tourists will chose to go elsewhere on vacation and boycott your country. We loath any form of cruelty. Shame on the Seychelles and the cowards that dont own up to this awful barbaric crime of poisoning!

Wendy Brune (Bielefeld, 2023-04-09)

Mass poisoning needs to end. It’s inhumane and cruel, no animal needs to suffer. We need to support the local NGOs to spay and accommodate more stray dogs. Keeping dogs chained and caged also needs to be banned.

#183

We should make seychelles become an example for respect towards ALL living creatures and proper laws should be in place for anyone mistreating any kind of animal. We cannot be a paradise but kill animals in atrocious ways like this! No tourist wants to come to find dead animals on the road! What message are we putting out there? Anyone that wants an animal should respond the same way to law as when they mistreat a person. Poison of any kind should not be in shops but purchased at the pharmacy or at a specific shop where your name and ID number is recorded with the quantity you have purchased. Make Seychelles a real paradise destination. The tourists that come want to see this change and so do we residents. Give support to the two shelters and let them do the decision making as they are dealing with this situation since decades! Don’t waste money on new buildings with new employees that don’t have the experience they need for this situation nor the care for the animals. If euthanasia is the only road, at least do it in a respectful manner and with volunteers to be present with love and support for their last moments. No importation of animals unless you are moving to seychelles. And all MUST be sterilised before entering. No breeding.
WE NEED THESE CHANGES URGENTLY!

This whole dog - situation in Seychelles seems to me tragic for many years and what is happening right now is already too much. On the one hand, the effort to attract more rich tourists and the presentation of luxury, and on the other, such barbaric practices on innocent creatures.
